Title: Eric has a Yeerk in his head.
Post by: Chad32 on June 18, 2008, 09:56:15 PM
This has been stated in book ten when the Chee are introduced, but I don't think it has in any other book. The fact that Eric can keep his Yeerk alive without letting it go in the pool has gotten me thinking in past occasions.

Depending on how large a scale this could be done, it could have really helped the Yeerk Peace Movement. In fact, it might have been a way to end the war, if robots could be designed that could be controlled by Yeerks and produce enough radiation to sustain one Yeerk life. If it's possible for a Yeerk to control a robotic brain, that is.

It also could have enabled Aftran to join the Animorph group, and continue to lead the YPM she founded. Instead of becoming a whale nothlit.

What do you guys think?

absolutely right, but that would be enabling the yeerks to do violence, so the chee could never design it for them

Since the Chee can never be part of any violence... they cannot possibly create ANY body for a Yeerk to control... since that might potentially make more violence.

That's true, unless they programmed the bots for nonviolence. But they still may not have been able to do it.

Yes but if you programmed something for non violence than its not like the yeerk would actually control it right? plus as androids I doubt the chee would like the idea of creating more androids for the sole purpose of being controlled by the yeerks, wouldnt it be kinda like saying to the human race, "hey dont worry about the yeerk invasion we will just give up the next two or three generations and then everything will be fine"

I wasn't saying make more chee bots to be controlled.  I meant just regular robots. Not a sentient machine, just a normal machine. You know?

There's no ethical issue with simply building the bodies, it's the free will argument. The body on its own is not violent.
Another thing to consider is that the Yeerks make war and enslave to acquire more hosts for their people. If they had these bodies then Yeerk society could move in a whole new direction. The Iskoort in the Attack prove as a species they are capable of more than war.
If your worried how about some sort of fail safe? A way of shutting off the robot body if the Yeerks do go renegade.

Hmm... if you do that, giving Yeerks an android body....

You would be repeating Seerow's kindness. With those bodies.. they could create an even more advanced android bodies WITH weapons. Yeerks would not feel pain in these bodies, since robots don't feel pain too, making them perfect shock troops (quantity over quality).

I have been wondering how the Animorphs intended to keep the Yeerk pacifists alive after the destruction of all the Yeerk pools!  Just put the YPM Yeerks in Chee heads!

I am utterly amazed that neither the Animorphs nor Erek thought to suggest that Aftran be housed in a Chee (The Sickness) or thought to suggest that other Peace yeerks be housed in Chee.  The Yeerks could be required to swear to do no violence, and the Chee bodies could be programed to not accept any violent orders from the Yeerks.

Yeerk can not control a Chee. They are mechanical beings, not biological.
They can however be fed with Kandrona rays that Chees can produce, while inside their head.

Even better!  If the Yeerk can't control the Chee body, then the Yeerk can't do anything bad with it, so it would be safe to house Yeerks in Chee bodies!

But it's safe, but it's probably imprisonment. Sit in this robot that you can't connect to and do nothing till we come back for you?

Maybe if they wanted to to trap Yeerks while freeing host, but it's kind of a huge suck it to Aftran or someone they want to help

But its a way to keep Peace Yeerks ALIVE away from the Yeerk Pool!  Peace Yeerks could feed from a Chee Kandrona generator every 3 days, then return to their hosts!  Such a deal would make it a lot easier to get Yeerks to join the peace movement!
