Title: Visser Three loving Cinnamon buns. Bunz... Zuh...
Post by: CounterInstinct on June 17, 2008, 07:10:58 AM
Since Visser Three had a human morph, in at least book 6, then why didn't he tend to repeat sounds and like food, just like Ax did? Since it isn't a host, he should be victim to a human's instinct for food, at least. The sounds were understandable since Hork-Bajir also make mouth sounds just like humans. But the food! Its a morph... he should go to the instincts too, right?

Also, if Visser Three tended to go crazy on food in human morph, should Tom be really suspicious when Ax in Jake morph tried to eat every edible (and inedible) thing in the house since Visser Three did it too?

It's not really an instinct, it's a reaction. Ax goes crazy with both speech and taste because both are completely foreign to him. Visser 3, having had hosts that both speak and eat, would not be overwhelmed by the experience. Alloran, certainly, would have, but no one would be able to see his reactions, would they?

He probably didnt repeat sounds for one of a few reasons, first of all Visser three had already taken control over hosts with (mouths that were used for speech) before such as the Gedd and the Hork-Bajir. Though their speech was not as complicated as that of the human race it was still evident. Ax got so wrapped up in it because he had never really had a mouth to be used for speech before. Now when it comes to food, In Book 49 The diversion, rachel brings a burger to Tobias and he morphs into human form to eat it with her but first eats some in his hawk form. I think this proves that eating in a morph does not feed your natural form. And even though yes humans get hungry its not the same as the Taxxons where we cant control it. It's very reasonable and possible that when using the human morph Visser three never ate anything. He goes to the instincts but like I said The human instinct isnt just screaming about food and needing to eat immediately or anything. The only reason AX freaked out about eating was after he did eat he loved the sense of taste, but if Visser three never ate in the human morph which he never NEEDED to, then he never would have been overwhelmed by this sense of taste.

About the food part... I mean, is it possible that the Visser never tok time to eat? Okay, probably knowing the Visser... he never would. I mean, he gave lettuce and water for Eva or Visser One or whatever to eat. Mah... I guess so... but I'm surprised Alloran's reactions and desires never broke through.

Exactly of course he didnt eat in human morph but yes he did have to eat in andalite form remember they busted up his grazing site twice and he had to feed eva to keep the host alive just because there is a yeerk in the head doesnt mean that they can live forever without taking care of the host's necessary functions for life.

My post was misleading. I meant the Visser in human morph.

And you got the Eva thing wrong. I mean, lettuce and water? Humans don't need just that to live. That's why Visser One laughed at Visser Three when he tried to feed her that. Of course they need to feed their hosts. They need to care for them at least. That's how the predator vs. parasite debate between Cassie and Aftran started.

Yeah, but it would be quite funny to see Visser Three freaking out about food.

It's not really an instinct.  How many humans do you know that have such a craze for food?  I mean sure, I like my food, but I'm not as mad as Ax about it.  The impression I get from the series is that Ax's reaction was due to him not being used to having the sense of taste.  I'd also imagine, although this is just a theory of mine, that a Yeerk would be better at controlling morph instincts than humans and Andalites can, especially if it's the first morph for both of them, as a Yeerk is used to being in and controlling the body and instincts of other species.

A Yeerk is very used to controlling their excitement about new senses: they do it whenever they're in a host.  Taste is no different.  Also, V3 would have experienced taste in Hork-Bajir: bark may not taste good to us, but that doesn't mean it doesn't to a Hork-Bajir.

And, as others have pointed out, V3 may have never eaten in human morph.  You also have to remember that Ax was a pretty young Andalite when he first started the series, with little experience of morphing.  Even Alloran on his own would, I imagine, be able to control the joy of taste better than Ax could at first.

I already have agreed with almost everything you've said... except the last part. Ax pointed out that ANY Andalite would go bananas over a cinnamon bun. Andalites don't taste. Yeerks already experienced that sense when they were in the Hor-Bajir/ TAxxon body so they wouldnt be overwhelmed.

There's an extra issue that people seem to have overlooked and that is control. The Even if Alloran was mentally freaking out about food Visser 3 could easily suppress it. In addition Yeerks can disconnect themselves from certain senses, so even if did have to eat as a human he would probably not experience it fully.
And as people have said before, he's had these senses before, controlling a Hork Bajir and a morphed Andalite wouldn't be much different.

I'll say this only, I think:

There are a lot of psychological forces that can be squashed completely by the mind, if they interfere with a goal. It's rather like resisting the hormonal urge to kiss a cute guy, when you know that you have to focus on your grades, since you don't have time for a relationship.
Of course, that is NOT the situation, but it is not to far off as a comparison. The chemicals that control physical attraction also affect dietary cravings...includin g cinnamon buns...and cigarette butts...and the refreshing beverage known as 'vinegar'.

It shouldn't be a problem for him at all, because Visser Three himself didn't morph a human, only Alloran his host body did. Visser Three was still just a Yeerk inside the human head, so he should have complete control over the human body. And like someone said, the Yeerks can release themselves from certain areas of the host brain.

I'm surprised like one person has brought up what was obvious to me-the Visser is just too serious to let something like that get to him. Like Estelore said; you can igonore basic urges and reactions if you have enough mental and behavioral self control and single-mindedness as the visser. Ax is a teenager who can allow himself to be silly as a human-the whole duty/fight thing, I think, is sorta put on the backburner when he's in human morph, 'cause he never fights as a human anyway.

That's actually a point I'd not considered (with Aximili).
He probably doesn't consider the human form to be even remotely useful for self-defense, especially because he can't even WALK in it, really.
He likely views the human body to be a morph for amusement and concealment, and nothing more.

he did have to spend time eating and acting normal doing it tho, a few times, especially in 23 where the whole mission depended on him acting perfectly like tobias' cousin

its def got to do with the yeerks ability to control the host body

Taxxons don't go crazy about taste. They go crazy about the hunger part.

At Overeater's Anonymous, I have encountered people who have gone "binge eating" and gained weight.  They have therefore joined OA to help overcome their binge eating habits.
