Title: Do you think the Yeerks can control their hosts' dreams?
Post by: rocklobster on June 20, 2009, 10:55:38 AM
Okay, I know from reading Visser and The Departure that Yeerks can share memories with their hosts.  Is it possible for a Yeerk to control what your dreams' content are? Can they make you dream about their memories?

LOL I don't know but if they could, I can't image a worse kind of torture than to make their host dream that they were free, only to have them wake up and realize it was all a dream

I wouldn't think so. Aren't all dreams thoughts that run through your head at night? Sure, yeerks can control your body, but they can't control your thoughts as far as I know.

Contents of dreams to be more thought than bodily based, and most people can't control their own dreams, and obviously Yeerks can't stop you from thinking at your leisure, otherwise volunteerary or not, you'd be just as easy to control.

honestly, i don't think so.
the way ka made it so the hosts could still think while being controlled, i'm assuming they can dream.

Maybe through lucid dreaming, or some subliminal messaging. Who knows?

far as we know, nope.

I would guess no, but it's an intriguing idea. After all, we know that Yeerks can make the host "see" memories or fantasies, and they seem to be aware of what their host is dreaming (both shown in #6) but that could just be because they know what their host is thinking about when they wake up (or can the Yeerks "see" the dream themselves?)

Even so, I highly doubt they can influence the host's dreams, otherwise I'm sure it would have been mentioned. Honestly though, we don't know enough about the limits of Yeerk control, or how exactly dreams work. Is it physically possible for dreams to be influenced/controlled, even by an outside source?

But I can control the contents of my dreams, does that mean they can do it for me too? If they had me I mean... And the Swedish scouts have always been girlscouts and boyscouts together, just like... Maybe I should quit the scouts before its too late... Wait, I am already a full member and I haven't noticed anything... yet...

I think it will be a nightmare tonigth. It was really a long time ago.

Is it possible for people to control their dreams?
Yes.

Is it possible for outside stimulus to influence dreams?
Yes.

Can claims one and two be scientifically verified?
Yes, probably.  There have been some experiments with exciting results.

It's funny that I'm reading this topic now.  Just this morning I had a lucid dream.  Admittedly, not a very powerful one.  I can't blow stuff up with my mind or fly or even walk around freely--yet.  (I suck at lucid dreaming, but it's okay to suck in the beginning...)

So, I found myself playing in an orchestra.  That's not too weird in itself--I have actually played in an orchestra once.  But, little by little things began to not add up.  I don't play violin.  I play clarinet.  Why does this tux not fit?  Why is Peewee Herman conducting, and why is he so mad at us?  I shouldn't have Peewee Herman in my dream, I hardly even know who he is.

Hey, cool I'm dreaming, that is so aweso--oh, no don't go!

I began to fade out at this point, when I remembered something I read: you always have your sense of touch in dreams.  So, I tried to rub my hands together and,

It worked.  That's so awesome!  Woohoo--aw, crap, I'm awake.

So, that's the highest level of lucidity I've reached so far.  It kinda makes me want to try harder.  Especially since "harder" only means doing the bare basics like keeping a dream log and trying to do impossible things--like push a thumb through a palm.  (If it works, you must be dreaming.)

Anyway, this isn't a topic I can give real in depth insight into, so I'll point you to the Lucidity Institute (http://www.lucidity.com/), and in particular the Light and Mirror (http://www.lucidity.com/NL52.LightandMirror.html) experiment.

So, can yeerks control dreams?  I think I can definitely say "maybe."  ;)

Do Swedish scouts allow gays?
