Should they keep Tobias in the closet or not?
I think he should come out.

Lol. I think Marco was the one in the closet. Tobias did make a reference to it though, about how society could barely handle gay kids....

I don't think any of the characters came off as gay. You can talk about gay people and stuff without being gay. I would definitely keep them all straight, but that won't stop the shipping fans from doing whatever they want.

I'm with Think on this, when did the guy who went into self imposed exile over the death of his girlfriend become gay? Are you asking whether or not they should make him gay? To what end? I don't see it increasing ticket sales, in fact I see it getting the movie banned from Utah which would mean I wouldn't get to see it :'(

It would totally screw up the whole Tobias/Rachel relationship, so no. Not make him gay. Especially if the movie miraculously turns out spectacular, and JFalcon can't see it. If there's a good Ani movie out there, my bud JF needs to see it.

It would be totally wrong for Tobias to be gay. Just because his romance with Rachel would never work doesn't mean we have to make him gay. That's just stupid. Nothing against gay people here.

Indeed. For the most part Utah or at least southern Utah is kind of what you'd call "closed minded" or someting like that.

I'm from Alabama, and my grandmother is that way. Homosexuality is plain wrong, aliens can't possibly exist because the Bible doesn't mention them, and there won't be any animals in heaven because only Humans have souls. Could you imagine a perfect afterlife with no nature at all?

This is a little extreme, but you get the idea.
Unless you're reading into some ridiculous "subtext", there's no hint that Tobias could be gay. He likes Rachel a lot. ::)

Chad, my maternal grandmother (I've never met my paternal grandmother -- died before we were properly introduced, but I digress) is quite similar -- basically throwing a fit when an American, Muslim government official was sworn in on the Koran instead of the Bible ::) -- that's basically the tip of the iceberg.
Anyway, I digress to the topic. I do not nor did I ever think Tobias is gay, not that I'm against homosexuality but I think it is not in his character. Besides, KAA didn't say he was, like JKR outted Dumbles.

Not that it matters to me. As long as he speaks good English. That's the official language of America.We don't have an official religion, though Christianity is very popular.

I have nothing against homosexuality, but I also agree that Tobias wasn't gay.

Tobias was never homosexual, so there's no point in discussing it any further, but I have a feeling that Tobias definitely would've been suicidal had he not had the chance to trap himself as a hawk. I always took the trapping itself as a play on that topic, as a means for Tobias to escape his life, and I saw nothing accidental about it even though Tobias claimed it to be so. The lines from the Ellimist in #13 more or less confirm this, imo.

er, if Tobias was gay I really doubt he woulda gone into a depression over Rachel dying hell I doubt they would have even gone out or tried to go out at all. LOL making movie Tobias randomly gay would be like making the Andalites grey instead of blue, an unneeded and rather disturbing change.

Yeah. Back when I was reading it, I just firgured they were shorms. But it could be translated that way. Of course back then I was "homophobic" enough that I wouldn't see anyone as gay unless it was blatantly stated.

Twilight was garbage, didn't even understand why it was so big--Oh wait I do know. Its b/c of the millions of screaming female fans...the acting was atrocious in that movie, the directing terrible, production completely unimpressive, and the scenes set up were so contrived that I literally thought I had just witnessed a sick joke.
so i fastforwarded about 80% of that bull****. But that scene where he was stalking her in her own room, awkward. Tobias is too cool for that

It's not just "close-minded." It's called being Mormon...haha, sorry if anyone's Mormon here. For the most part, I don't really like them. Most of them have too many kids for them to handle, so they're underfed and not give as much attention as they need. Throughout the history of their religion, which had a weird start to begin with (freaking Joseph Smith), they've been changing what their own Bible says in order to make others more interested in the religion so they'll convert to Mormonism. There's other things too, but I'll keep my mouth shut now.

But, you would be surprised how easy it is, and how common, for a gay man to fall in love with a woman.
