Title: Gaz updates here
Post by: Gaz on June 15, 2008, 03:47:59 PM
Thought I would post another intro and make my presence known to the general population. *nods*

Some may have already noted the return of my insane fanfiction "Animorphs Enter the Beast Wars". There have been a few minor changes to it since the original posting of it on the old board. I've added a bit more info on the Maximals & Predicons, altered/added a little dialogue and there is finally a new part! Short, but new none-the-less.

Went on a walk with my younger sister and we had a long discussion about the story and how/why things were written the way they were and what direction the story could take in the future. For example: what would certain characters do and why. It was a great talk and I think my sister helped me generate some ideas. Hopefully I can make them work out. (IE: the new plot twist developing in the new installment).

Anywho, a little about myself: I am in college, majoring in elementary education. I still have my collection of Animorph books. I have pretty much every book there was. All 54 regular books, 4 megamorphs, all Chronicles, a double of one and a copy of book 4 in french.

Last year I got my younger sister hooked on the series and she's most of the way through. Hasn't read the Megamorphs or Chronicles yet. She heard Andalite Chronicles because I read it out loud to her. It's great, she's 15 and doesn't mind me reading things out loud to her because I get to do voices. Heh, she's probably just humoring me. *shrug*

My real name is Rachel (and yes, I'm blond). But I'm the complete opposite of book Rachel. I hate clothes shopping and I'm not that outgoing. I've compared myself more to Cassie than Rachel.

And I live in fabulous VA. Seriously, I love it here.

Think I'll start checking out threads to get myself out there. See y'all around the forum!

Gaz quotes:
*"Can't you see I'm trying to draw a little piggy?!"
*"Why do you have to have a head?"
*"Dib drank the last soda. He will pay!"
*"You do realize I'm going to have to destroy you now."
*"I hope you like nightmare worlds."
*"Give me the vampire piggies!"
*"All is right with the world again. Stupid world!"

I had to applaud you. I miss the Beast Wars on TV, and I imagine that I'll be reading your fic very soon.
Nice use of cross-fandom-fiction!

Welcome back Gaz ^_^ How was your trip?

It was lots of fun! I was visiting with a friend that I haven't seen in 2 years. We walked around Chicago where she lives. Visited plenty of shops, a museum and saw a great play called Ain't Misbehavin'!

Glad to be home, but little sad the week went by so fast. Guess that's what happens when you have a lot of fun.  ;D

Did you see the place where Senna and her "friends" disappear to go to Everworld? ;)

*snaps fingers* darn! Didn't think about that. *heh* Should totally do that. Track down the spot and take a picture or something.
Title: Heads up!
Post by: Gaz on August 02, 2008, 09:41:10 PM
Well, summer is coming to a close. I can't believe it.

The 14th I get to go have my wisdom teeth removed. *joy*

Then on the 19th my family will be driving me back up to college. After that I'm not sure how often I'll be able to get on. I'll try, but between the classes I got and other stuff, it may not be very often.

Am currently working on the next part of my fanfic and will do my darndest to get it up soon.

Y'all are awesome. I love this forum!  ;D

Wisdom teeth? Been there, I have. Fun, it was not.
Funny for my family, it was.
Like Yoda, I shall now stop speaking.

Sorry.

Just...make sure they knock you out first, okay? Good luck with that.
Title: Re: Gaz42 (re-introducing myself)
Post by: Gaz on August 02, 2008, 10:09:07 PM
Thanks. My mom already made it clear the lady she set up the appointment with that I wanted to be knocked out.

I had told her earlier after the dentist said we should make the appointment, "I want to be knocked out! I want to be blissfully unaware of what they are doing."

Had already heard fun stories from someone I work summer camp with about how wonderful I'll feel the next day. Have plans to stock up on things like ice cream, applesauce, pudding, fruit chillers and saltine crackers.

Ooh, now I'm going to go for a couple of Yoda sentences! Might be fun.

Looking forward to this, I am not. But necessary, dentist says it is.

Ok, enough of that, I'm too tired to think in Yoda sentences. It's better now than later. Thanks to braces a few years ago, my wisdom teeth are growing funny. If I leave them, then one of them impacting the tooth next to it would mean I'd need a root canal on top of having the wisdom teeth pulled. So...probably better to get that out of the way now. *nods*

*nods in agreement*

Braces. Ugh. Been there, too, I have.

My deepest empathy, I give to you. :hug2:

Oh, by the way, after you wake up, make sure someone records the whole thing on video. You'll look and sound exactly like this : :droolfactor10:

Trust me. It's extremely funny when someone else cannot control the movements of their jaw, lips, and tongue.

(Of course, YOU won't find it as funny when the painkillers wear off, but some vicoden and tylenol 3 will fix you up nicely.)

God bless the person who discovered vicoden.  :love08:

Oh, wisdom teeth... good luck!
I'm lucky (but not wise ;)) I haven't any wisdom tooth! not even a hidden one! lol

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my dad will have to keep from laughing when it's all over and done with. I mean, I like to pop in plastic vampire teeth and try to talk with those and my parents are like, "We can't take you seriously talking like that."

Oh yeah. People have totally advised me to make sure to get any pain med prescriptions filled pronto.

Man, with all the stories I've heard I'm kinda envying the people that don't need to go through this. *sigh*

The real trick is this:

Don't worry about it.

No, seriously. Worrying CANNOT help anything even ONE LITTLE BIT. It will not prevent any potential discomfort, and it is more likely to have a negative effect on you, if anything.

Before you even walk into the office, you should find a 'happy place' for yourself. Jah, I know how corny that sounds, but it works amazingly well. Relax as much as you possibly can, and think about things that make you happy.

Just trust me on this one. :)

Heh, yeah. I need to get myself to relax. I tend to get worked up when faced with something new like this.

I'll chill on the way there with my ipod or something. That helps.  :D

Well, I just got back about 30 minutes ago from the oral surgeon. Dentist had recommended only 2 wisdom teeth get pulled, but I ended up getting all 4 pulled.

Trying to figure out how to eat saltines with a rubber lower lip and tongue. Already taken first dose of 2 types of meds. Fun times!

That is all. Oh, and dad got me a new book. ^_^

"Vampyre: The Secret lost journal of Van Helsing." Can't wait to look at it.

Okay, now that the teeth are out:

Try to chew with JUST your front teeth. Jah, it's the pits, but it's better than tearing out your stitches.
Second, do NOT eat ANYTHING sticky. No caramels, starburst, laffy taffy, or thick peanut butter.

I highly recomment you try an Arby's roast beef sandwich. They taste great, and they don't hurt to eat.

Drink something with a high sugar content. Orange/Apple juice is best, but soda will work in a pinch.
Warning: OJ will BURN if you aren't still numb.

Avoid lemonade and limeade. Big ouches.

Last, DON'T drink through a straw for at LEAST two weeks.

Let  me know if you have ANY questions at all. I've been in your shoes, so to speak, and I'll be happy to help. :)

Thanks. It's great all the advice I've been getting from people. I've had no big surprises.  :D

We had gone shopping last night and got: applesauce, yogurt, popsicles, chocolate ice cream, pudding, saltines. Dinner right now is applesauce and a milkshake. Mmmm.

Yeah, for the saltines I've been taking tiny bites and waiting for them to get soggy.

I'm happy because I can finally feel my whole face again! Man, that was awkward. And funny. Been jumping up every half hour to change slobbery gauze. It's finally slowing down (has for a while).

No straw 2 weeks? Ok, I'll remember that, was wondering how long I should avoid straws. Thanks.

Will certainly remember to avoid those drinks. Man, I love Arby's. Any excuse for a roast beef sammich.

Thanks for all the advice, will certainly let you know if I have a question.  ;D

The one big thing will be tonight when I stop using the gauze. I'll have to remind myself not to play with the extraction areas.  ::)

Also setting an early morning alarm so I don't miss a med dosage. Probably silly, but I'd rather not wake up at some point because my jaw started to hurt.
Title: For those that care

Ok, I'll be leaving to drive back up to college in Chicago on Tuesday. And I make a promise to someone that I wouldn't take another month to get the next part of Animorphs Enter the Beast Wars up. That shall be my goal for today and tomorrow. Because once I start on campus next week, I'm not sure when my next set of free time will be.
Title: Re: Gaz42 (re-introducing myself)

OH! Gaz, I cannot BELIEVE that I forgot to mention this:

To save yourself a LOT of nausea, eat something when you take your meds, and avoid hot showers and baths until at least an hour after dosing yourself.

I didn't have a problem with the hot showers, but three people in my family got REALLY nauseous when they took hot showers right after taking pain medication. We aren't sure why, but it happens.

Food will settle your stomache and your nerves.

Also, the food on your stomache will keep you from waking up STARVING because you have been avoiding the less painless foods. I HAVE done this, and it's a LOT better to eat every time you dose than to wake up with gut pains from not eating. See, one of the more common side-effects of vicoden and tylenol 3 is that it sometimes makes you feel like you aren't hungry, even when you ARE needing food. Then, when the drug wears off, all that hunger hits you at once. Not fun. So, even if you don't feel at all hungry, munch on SOMETHING. It doesn't have to be a lot of food, but you need to have a few dozen calories on reserve.

Anyway, no worries. Clearly, you're doing well, and after awhile this will be a funny story to tell your grandkids.

Post by: Gaz on August 15, 2008, 06:59:58 PM
Thanks for the warning. I'll remember that about the shower thing. ^_^

Whenever I take the meds I've been nibbling on some saltine crackers. Even went as far as to set my alarm for 5 am this morning when I was supposed to take another dose. Took the ibuprofin, ate a few crackers then went back to sleep. Ended up sleeping until it was time for my 11 am dose. X-D

Tried an Arby's sammich for dinner tonight. Took me 35 minutes to eat it. *aheh* But hey, I really needed something other than yogurt, pudding or applesauce. I did make Jello earlier though. I may just have to have some when I take my 11 pm dose of ibuprofin. And bust out the other package of saltines.

So far so good though. Learned it's no fun watching a Rifftrax commentary day after oral surgery. Too much laughing hurts. (I got their 300 commentary this morning. So funny). Not to mention my brother making faces at me as I'm nibbling my sammich. Had to squash that thing down, couldn't open my mouth wide enough.

Jah, the sandwiches aren't FAST or EASY, but they don't hurt as much as other types.

I'm glad that it's going well. :D

Well, tomorrow morning at o' dark stupid I am departing to move back onto campus. I move in Friday, but I go to school in an entirely different state so we gots to leave tomorrow.

Not sure when I'll be on again. Once classes get started I have a hectic schedule. I already know Tuesdays and Thursdays I'll have no free time until 6 pm alternating between class and work.

Sorry I wasn't able to get the next story part up as promised, but things have been busy.

Got some last minute packing to do before going to bed.

Later!

Tuesday evening I'll be at my grandmother's house. Then Wednesday morning I'll be heading home to VA for Thanksgiving break (my mom still doesn't know).

Wednesday the 26th through the evening of Sunday the 30th I'll be home in VA. I'll try and figure out a way to take my lappy with me.

Thought I would give you all a heads up about this.

As most of you know, it's finals week for me. Friday I'll be moving my junk off campus in preparation to return home for the summer.

So from Friday the 1st through Wednesday the 6th I will probably not be on. Maybe that weekend a bit.

I'll miss you too!

If we stay at a hotel here's hoping it has a good internet connection.

On the way back home we have to stop in Arkansas to pick up a clock. So that's adding a couple days to the trip. Usually the trip between here and home takes 12 hours.
