alright, i have been trying to come up with core Virtues and Vices for the animorph team.
here the list of virtues:
Charity
Faith (don't even have to be in religion, could be a scientist has faith in the Grand Unified theory)
Fortitude (standing up for what you believe in)
Hope
Justice
Prudence (patience)
Temperance (finding Balance in one's life, never over indulging in anything)
here are the list of Vices:
Envy
Gluttony
Greed
Lust (while it includes sex, it isn't a strictly a sex vice, a person can lust after a rare item the same way a person can lust over a member of the opposite sex)
Pride
Sloth
Wrath.
here's what i got so far.
Cassie: Virtue: Charity (dedicates her time to the animals and not to mention gave the blue box to the yeerks) Vice: (this one is a toughie but i am leaning towards Sloth because sometimes, she just doesn't really give a crap about what goes on around her)
Jake: Virtue: i want to say Prudence (he really did wait a while for a chance to free tom while simply kidnapping him in the middle of the night, and holding him for 3 days would have done the trick) Vice: Wrath (he really did get tick-off sometimes)
Rachel: Virtue: Fortitude (while an argument can be made that Justice could be her virtue, the fact that she carried out most of her desires makes it Fortitude) Vice: Wrath (she get's pissed easily)
Marco: Virtue: Hope (even thought his mother died, he never really stop believe that she was really dead) Vice: Sloth (let's go home and watch some tv... if i had a dime for everytime he said that)
Tobias: Virtue: this one really confused me, it's a toss up between Hope, Prudence, and Temperance, in the end i would choose Temperance (never did over indulge in anything)
Vice: Pride. as much as Tobias was a loner, his ego really took off when it came to other birds and their relations to Red-tails (him in particular).
Ax: Virtue: have to say Faith. never really stopped believe in jake..
Vice: Andalites in general have a Pride problem but Ax seems to be a Glutton. he can never stop eating food..
i'll try to get the secondary characters soon

This is very good you did take you time with this heh.
-
Very cool.
Under Rachel, though, I would include a battle lust.
-
Ah yeah you are right its more of a lust to her later in the books.
-
That's pretty good. I can really picture that now that you've pointed it out. Makes a lot of sense.
-
I'd also make lust one of Rachel's vices, maybe just as great as her wrath; she is unable to control herself in Animorphs #12, with the celebrity she was "thinking about".
-
I think Cassie's problem was caring too much about what was going on, rather that the opposite...she's a hard one, isn't she? Excessive morality? heheh...
Marco seems to be the one who doesn't care about morals as much.
Totally agree with Tobias, he was so hung up on not looking weak or whatever and couldn't accept help from anyone.

Faith is a vice, not a virtue, IMO. Shock, you stated Ax's virtue as "faith" because he never lost 'faith' in Jake. But. . .that's not really faith, because he had good reason to trust Jake based off experience with Jake as a leader and trusted friend. Faith implies that you believe without proof or evidence. I.E religious faith. The same goes for a scientist's 'faith' in Grand Unified Theory (whatever that is.).

i and the rest of the world's organized religions disagree. being faithful to an idea (even a non spiritual one) is classifed as a virtue.
also, Faith is really just the Christian wording for Loyalty and how is not cheating on your spouse or not stabbing some one in the back a vice and not a virtue?
you stated Ax's virtue as "faith" because he never lost 'faith' in Jake.
that is correct. in the end, he was willing to betray his race to side with him.
But. . .that's not really faith, because he had good reason to trust Jake based off experience with Jake as a leader and trusted friend. Faith implies that you believe without proof or evidence. I.E religious faith.
and yet, he was still willing to turn his back on his race to help a "trusted friend". think of a man crashed in a foreign country, makes some friends, fights some enemies, always think that rescue might be come to save him.
as it turns out, his country is planning on setting off nukes and completely obliterate the country that he has been fighting in. he now as a choice.
Ax is the same but except that this is more major. he betrayed his race to side with the animorphs and completely trusted in Jake to see it through.
The same goes for a scientist's 'faith' in Grand Unified Theory (whatever that is.).
alright, let give another example of Faith:
a woman is an atheist and believes, however infinitesimally unlikely, that the universe and the world are the result of a vast fortuitous accident. she is unrelenting in this outlook and believes this with much conviction as the staunchest member of any spiritual faith.
