Title: Anyone game to colour a linework?!
Post by: Gafrash on April 12, 2009, 08:58:04 PM
Hey, everyone,

I've still been sketching and drawing on me spare time, but I royally suck at colouring. I try using Photoshop CS3 and Painter IX but I take ages and the end result really doesn't satisfy me.

So, I'm gonna post this latest drawing of mine out here.
I am about to finish the linework, but was wondering if any of you would want to, or know anyone who would want to, render it whatever way you like. Would really love to see what people come up with in my drawing.
I should have the Tobias/Hawk finished soon and send the decent resolution to whoever wants to.
Please don't be shy!!!

Hope you like it!

I might try my hand at it if you can get me a higher resolution image. (And, yeah. Finish Tobias. lol)

I'll take a stab at it

I'll do a better version when you finish Tobias, but here's one using the unfinished picture. What's there of Tobias is very rough. This is a semi quick one hour job.

:D :D Whoa!! Really happy with the initiatives! :D :D
Great quick colouring there, Cerulean!!

I've finished up the hawk from a low-res image. Still don't reckon the bird looks good, and now that I see it in colour I can see the missing legs in Cassie, Ax and Marco real badly, but reeeeeally want to see how people can colour it, so I am going to send it to yas.
The file will be ~8M big. And when you finish it, just return it as a decent sized .jpeg. via mail or shrink it enough to post back here.

Cerulean, AniDragon, check the e-mails you've made available in your avatars.
DumaCheetah84, I am unable to find yours. Send us a msg with your email if ya still keen.
Hope you all don't mind having multiple renders posted here.

AniDragon, check the e-mails you've made available in your avatars.

Hmm, it must have gone into my junk mail for some reason, and I probably accidentally deleted it. Could you send it again, and make sure you put "Animorphs" somewhere in the subject line? That way if it goes into the junk mail, it'll still catch my attention. lol.

I'm not done yet but I thought I would say this...

I think cel coloring/shading might be my calling. If not, a VERY damn good excerise in general. Not having to draw THEN color is very nice.

You should have it in sometime tomorrow if not Sunday. Coloring the humans takes time. XD

I like it, but I'm not sure Rachel would ever be caught dead in white jeans.

power rangers!!!!!!!

COOKIE! XD

Blame that infamous line from Marco about trying to match with morphing clothes and all. That is what I thought of.

Hahahahah! The Power-Rangers-Marco reference is gold!
It's coming along well, QIfry! Maybe you should become a colourist if you're having fun!!
But just a few constructive enquiries, are you using the book covers as a reference, though?!
How does Ax have that grayish-patch in his hands and in his front and at the tail? His blue should be a lighter tone, to mimic the blue-and-tanned-fur he's described in the book. And isn't Marco's skin tone slightly darker than Jake+Rachel's, but lighter than Cassie's?!
And the way you did the Tobias/hawk is really cool.
To push this drawing, I think it needs a light source. The one you've made for Jake and Cassie seem to work out. But it would mean fixing up the other characters to match, and making parts of the shadow areas significantly darker. It would work out!!

You're both the only ones who have shown any colouring so far!
So two thumbs up!! Great job!!!

Marco's pants blend in too much with the background for my tastes.  I really like what you did with Tobias though.

Why not? White jeans are considered fashionable a lot of the time and she is the fashion queen.

i just think marco's skin is a tad off.

I'll probably end up editing it some because I'm still not fully happy with it, but I wanted to get this up so you knew what I was doing.

Well with Marco's skin color, I was going for a more olive-tone because when I saw of how Marco was join, he honestly looks like John Leguizamo. John is a bit on the pale side but still a tad olive.

BTW, shading/light sourcing/etc is not my forte. I like I said, this is an experiment. I'm more familiar with cel-shade type.
And no, I didn't use any references at all. I was really trying to make all of this from my memory and then do a bit of a spin on it.

looks good, but i don't like it how the fur on ax's arms just ends at his wrists... it looks like it's a shirt

Both colourings are good, of course! I am assuming you guys used Photoshop, I was just saying if you wanted to push your colouring more, Photoshop is a good tool.
But I agree with the different colours making it looking a bit like he's sporting long-sleeves. Perhaps it was my purposefully drawing the tufts of hair there. But I got no idea where you guys are getting the different colours on the hands and chest patch from?!

Dude, I know the hands are REALLY obvious there, but not so much in the other covers Aximili featured. I think the tones are a little more subtle.
:D Regardless, great effort from you guys. Thanks for the colouring! :D

Anyone ever use it?!
