Title: How to get book 55 published
Post by: wolfev on March 12, 2009, 01:13:12 AM
K.A. once said that in order for book 55 to be made, it would require not her but the Publisher to ask for it. Well, how come we haven't just tried to get scholastic to ask for it. There are plenty of people who would read it. We should just organize something and get the book we want published.

I don't want the series to be continued.  Not a book 55, anyway.  A Yeerk Chronicles or Crayak Chronicles or something like that, sure.  Not a 55, though.

I agree with Orca.
If there would be a #55, it shouldn't be about the Animorphs (I mean Jake, Cassie, Marco, Tobias and Ax... if we suppose they're still alive).
I'd prefer Yeerks or Crayak Chronicles, or about the Pemalites or... I don't know but #55 seems useless.
The best would be the re-writing of the last 2 books with more details. A longer ending.

I'm going to go against the flow of the crowd here, if K.A. has actual plans for 55-60 I for one would love to know what they are. If she was just sayin' stuff then indeed it'd be pointless.

. . . I'm still all for the Animoprhs: Expanded Universe idea though, 55-60 or indeed just a book 55 by itself (far less appealing) would be a great way to kick it off.

I'd like to see more Animorphs stuff, but no matter what K.A. decided to do it would undoubtedly deem 90% of the post 54 fanfiction AU.

She really would like to write more about Animorphs?? Not a new serie?

no shes done with animorphs, shes doing younger kids stories right now

I forget when she said something about 55-60 but maybe she meant she had the idea and then when she knew she was ending things at 54 she did her ending which cancels the posibility to use the ideas she had

otherwise id love a few chronicles

but she said a couple years back that

Quote
To Everyone:

Wow. You made us cry. Even Michael and that's not easy.

This was incredibly moving for both of us. Humbling as well.

It is very weird to think of the fans being adults now. Fans with jobs, fans in college, Elizabeth in Iraq. (I knew Michael was getting older but I didn't think I was. Damn.)

We had always hoped Animorphs would have an effect beyond the "aaargh" and the "tseeew!" We tried not to think about those possibilities, of course, because we both have a mortal fear of taking ourselves too seriously. Marco's theory that you have to decide whether you're going to see life as tragedy or comedy is our philosophy as well, and we've always figured our first obligation -- before we started laughing at anyone else -- was to laugh at ourselves. So we'd know we were sneaking "big issues" into the books but we never wanted to really think too much about it. After all, we're just fiction writers not philosophers and if we ever started thinking we were having an effect that would carry over into adult lives we'd be paralyzed by the responsibility.

We'd love to do book #55. Or #55 through #60, even. But that's not our decision to make. The publisher would have to make that call.

In the meantime we are both back at work. "Home of the Brave" and "The Buffalo Storm" both by "Katherine Applegate" are coming out this fall, starting I think in late August. Some of you guys might enjoy Home, but Buffalo is a picture book. I have a little kid series, "Roscoe Riley Rules" coming out next spring about the same time as Michael's "The FAYZ." Michael's going to be using the pseudonym "Michael Grant." As many of you know he's sensitive about blurring lines, especially on-line, where 11 and 12 year olds probably shouldn't be reading his more adult stuff, hence the pseudonym.

Again, we can't tell you how meaningful this was for us. We were really moved.

Thanks.

Katherine and Michael

Doesn't that quote kind of contradict the stuff she said in her response to the readers when she said she wanted to get her message across to readers, and got angry that they didn't get it? It seems like she was taking herself pretty seriously then.

Wring book 55 doesn't mean that it doesn't get across. Rachel will still be dead. Who knows what she will do with it.

I'm not talking about 55. I'm talking about them saying they didn't want their series to be taken too seriously.

Unless book 55 entailed Cassie digging up the Time Matrix and using it to save Rachel and Tom, they'd still be dead.

I just hope she'll write again for older people, later...

Id love a 55 to cancel out that crappy cliff hanger ending. But right now we have a better chance of a movie or second tv show being made then her writing more Animorph books

i'm sure she'd make #55 a cliffhanger too :(
i mean, what's the RIGHT way to end it? 'and they all lived happily ever after?'

definitely another chronicles, maybe she could re-print a few books with her comments in them? that'd be sweet.

The right way to end it would be for them all to get something good out of it, then resume their lives as normal. So yeah, kind of a happily ever after ending, but not really stated as such. And it's not like all their problems would go away, but at least have a nice ending that give closure to the series.

They already did end it the 'right way'. Plus, to go back on what they wrote and change it, would just take away from the message they were trying to send in the first place.

That'd be cool, but I don't see it being completely worthwhile for me to buy the books all over again just for that. I mean, if they want to share comments, they can easily do that over the internet.

Could that be arranged? A commentary on one of the books. I think she has the right to do that and not be in violation of copyright.

maybe a collectors edition? haha. not all of them.
or maybe a book of her drawings and unused ideas/thoughts.

Oooh, I would love to see that as well. Beyond all the ghost-written books, I'd love to know what she was thinking at particular events, what she wanted to happen versus what did happen, etc etc.

K.A actually did have a series bible that she created, which included drawings and things of that nature. From what I've heard though, she's far too embarrassed to show that off. If all of that was included as a collector's edition for the very first book -- #1: The Invasion, then that would definitely be awesome. ;D

Of course it would!!

In fact, I'll need to make something close to that for my role-playing game about Animorphs, and invent some parts... So it'd be easier if Katherine write it herself lol

put an online petition up and i would totally sign it!

Online petitions are meaningless, and hardly ever work. If you really want Scholastic to know, you're best off sending it as a hand written letter.

That doesnt really say hey we have had a plan for 6 more books for the past ten years. It just says yea if we could write it that would be cool.

an encyclopedia/special edition book would be awesome. I doubt it would ever happen tho, its just been too long for something like that to ever be profitable, but you never know

The thing about online petitions is that they (the signers) are hard to verify as legitimate signers unless all of their IPs are checked. The reason behind this is that anyone can sign an online petition, multiple times if they want, so the number of signers isn't accurate, nor is their name, as many people also sign using a screen name. Online Petitions have the potential to work, but they don't currently, and most companies never seriously consider them in their decision making process. The best way to get a signed petition across with your message is still a written one, mailed, with real names.

And no, the X-Men and Spider-Man DVD releases have nothing to do with online petitions. It all comes down to $$$. They were both released on DVDs once their movies were being released. It was a way for the distributor to cash in on the movie franchise, and it is the recent sales from the Marvel DTVs that have also pushed them to finally release X-Men volumes in their proper order. Spider-Man still has to come out. Most releases for Spider-Man have been for individual story arcs, while also tying in with the movies (Doc Ock, Venom Saga, etc).

Back on topic, someone want to notify scholastic to the current animorph's fanbase? Imagine if the series got rereleased. Maybe post the scholastic call line.
