Title: Questions
Post by: Horsefan1023 (Seal) on March 07, 2009, 10:39:19 AM
You know, it probably isn't my place to start this, but oh well.

I have a question, so I want to know what Mr. Guy thinks.  This might be a good place for people to post questions, but mine is way ahead.  In book 19 (yeah, way ahead) I'm Karen.  But there is Controller-Karen, Free-Karen, who are the same voice, so I assume I'm naturally both of them, but then there is the Yeerk, Aftran.  Am I Aftran too, or just Karen?

I've actually been thinking about this for a while. my thoughts: if what you hear is Karen's voice, that counts as Karen, even if it's Aftran talking. If you hear Aftran's voice (which is obviously gonna be different from Karen's), that counts as Aftran. So you're just Karen, and whoever plays Aftran will be Aftran. It means we'll need more cast members but that's the least of our troubles right now...

I think that you should be both voices, it will just feel more natural imo

like the whole book you're hearing this one voice associated with aftran/karen and then at the end its suddenly this random new voice with a completely different attitude?

It wont make complete sense within the story, but I think it would sound better because you'll have the tone of aftran down at that point you know

Yeah, but the Yeerk is different from the girl.  At one point, Aftran goes into Cassie, and that's just Aftran, not Aftran speaking through Karen's voice.

I want to do both voices, but I want to make sure it's fair.

My understanding has been that yeerks are voiced when:

In practical terms, actors will need to take multiple parts.  Don't worry about there not being enough parts to go around.  That's the least of our problems.

My preference would be for characters who have lines close to each other be voiced by different actors.  In any case, they need to be distinct.  That said, provided that Aftran and Karen are distinct, go ahead and do both, Horse.

true, that's always an option... so should I add horsefan as aftran on the cast list?

I've been wondering that myself with playing Eva... Should I technically do Visser One when it's narating in Visser as well, etc.

Yeah, I think the general thought is that if the Yeerk is, in their way, thought speaking to the host, than the person who plays the host plays them too.

The Visser book is Visser One telling the story as it is currently in Eva's body. So even though it is Visser One narrating, it's Visser One/Eva that's really narrating the story.

that's just the spoken parts, the parts said to the council members. the words that are just her thought or speaking to eva, are all visser one.
