Title: RAWR! I'm back!
Post by: DinosaurNothlit on January 26, 2009, 09:21:38 PM
Some of you may remember me.  Most of you probably don't; it's been a while.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm DinosaurNothlit.  Hi, everyone!  Please, don't ask what happened to me to make me the way I am, because it's a long story.  A long story that involves oatmeal, the time matrix, tranquilizer guns, and Skrit Na.  The point is, I'm a dinosaur now, and I have finally come to terms with that.

If you're wondering why I ever left this lovely site, I feel I should explain.  I am pretty much pathologically obsessive, yet at the same time I am extremely bipolar in my obsessions.  I'll swing from not caring at all about something, to being totally obsessed, and, in a month or two, back again.  A couple weeks ago, the metaphorical pendulum just stopped on Animorphs again.  So here I am.  Unable to think about anything but everyone's favorite animal-morphing superheroes.

Give it a few months, then the pendulum of my interests will swing somewhere else, and I will leave again.  For which I apologize in advance.  I've tried not to be so capricious, but that just seems to be the way my mind works.  For the moment, at least, I'm here.

Holy s***! Magic! I was just thinking about old fanfics that I wish were finished, and I just remembered The Difference! Nice to see you again.

Yep, I was on the old RAF.  But I love what you guys have done with the place.

Wish granted, Mr. Guy!  ;)  And it's nice to see you again, too.

Hi, DN.  I'm your junior and senior.  Great to see someone old/new.

And we didn't even need time travel to make that work.  I guess RAF's just as crazy as ever.  Good to meet you.  Welcome back, even if I never saw you leave.

wHELLcome back ^^

I know you're an old member, but you didn't come for a long time so you don't know all the projects RAFians have:

Quote from: wildweathel
E-books Project (mostly complete, and therefore inactive.  However, there has been some activity trying to clear up the last little details in support of the Translation Project),
Remnants and Everworld E-books projects will be soon finished too (miss Everworld #10)...

Quote from: wildweathel
RAFipedia (an encyclopedia of the weirdness that goes on here, headed up by Estelore)

The Audiobooks project, a full-cast audio version of Animorphs, which is currently reactivating.  There are many non-acting positions open, plus quite a few parts (especially extras) as well.  Mrguy, Morfowt, and myself are currently heading that.

The Translation Project (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html) (actually in the Other Books board currently), a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages.  With a lot of random language-geekyness.  Currently, there's been interest in French (Dameg, Tocade, Anidragon), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), and Esperanto (myself)--but as far as I know, no real goals have been set yet.  Personally, I'm only interested in continuing work on my translation once the Audiobooks are moving along well.

The Webcomic project: making the comic of Animorphs.

The RPG project: I'll do it in French, but with some RAFians, we gonna translate. And RAFians also help ^^ a lot!

You can participate and contribute to the projects if you want.

Good to know I was missed.  Maybe we'll get to know each other better this time around?

Don't 'junior' me, sonny.  I was fighting Yeerks 65 million years before you were born.  And who's to say time travel wasn't involved here?

Those sound like some neat projects, Dameg.  I was here for the beginnings of the E-books and audiobook projects, but RAFipedia, the Translation project and the Webcomic project are all new to me.  I'll have to check those out.  I speak pretty good French, so if anything being translated into French needs more hands . . . er, well, claws, anyway . . . I could maybe help with that.

*swirls his cloak and appears, landing on an energy disc over DinosaurNothlit's head.*

Dang.  Overshot it again.

*jumps down, using his energy to slow his descent.*

Hello, DinosaurNothlit.  Welcome back, I guess.  Were you an Andalite or human before you got trapped?  We're currently making a list of RAFspecies . . . but I guess you're a dino now.

CloakedFigure, just list me as a Tyrannosaurus-Ankylosaurus mixed morph.  What I was before doesn't really matter anymore.

Hi!  I don't think you know me that well, but I loved your fanfics.  So, hi creature from the past that...well, really should be exctinct.

Oh, you speak French? ^^
So yeah, you can help us.
I made a French forum for Animorphs (FRAF: http://damegdl.free.fr/Forum/) for the fans who don't speak English very well. But we need animation... not enough people yet ^^'
If you wanna try the translations English to French, no problem... but maybe it'll be difficult. So if you just help us to understand the things we don't understand very well... come on the Translations thread, sometimes, please ^^
You also can help, later, to translate the role-playing game from French to English, if you want ^^ We'll need help for this project too!

You see, you can be useful ^^

Hey, that's not very nice, Horsefan.  What if I said that I thought seals should be extinct?  (I'm glad you liked my fics, though.)

Well, I bet you haven't seen many magical seals before.  Or seals that can somehow type with flippers.
Title: Re: RAWR! I'm back!
Post by: DinosaurNothlit on January 28, 2009, 09:13:22 PM
No, I certainly haven't.  But I hear ya on the typing thing.  T-rex arms are hardly better than flippers in that respect.

Opposable thumbs and fingers.  An evolutionary boon.

Opposable thumbs and fingers.  An evolutionary boon.

Yeah, sure, rub it in.  :P  But hey, teeth, claws, and armour are pretty big evolutionary boons, too.

Well, you have fingers, I think at least, Nothlit.

Four of them.  Yanno, total.

I hate you, Dameg.  You have to bring up french everywhere.
Title: Re: RAWR! I'm back!
Post by: wildweathel on January 29, 2009, 05:30:45 PM
No, Horsefan.  French is a beautiful language, which (though I can't speak it) I can read a little:

Un grand merci à toi ^^ C'est toujours un plaisir d'avoir de nouveaux participants ^^ Passe nous voir sur FRAF, un de ces quatre ;)

I've remembered a few things from French class, but most of it is recognizable

Un -- Sounds like the start of unicycle which means one-wheel: one--or by extension, "a"
grand -- sounds like "great", which it is (meaning "large")
merci -- can mean "mercy", but usually means "thanks", but this is something I've just picked up
à toi -- toi is cognate with "thee"  English stopped using this word, but French hasn't

A great thanks to thee ^^

C'est -- "it is" (something I've remembered)
toujour  -- ach, not sure.  I think it means "always"
un -- same as above
plaisir -- hard to see, but pronounced, it sounds like--and means--"pleasure"
d'avoir -- "of having"  "avoir" = "to have" (again, French class)
nouveaux -- sounds like "nova" in "nova stella" = "new star", so "new"
participants -- exactly the same

It's always a pleasure having new participants

Passe -- "pass"
nous -- Um, sounds like "nos" and "ni" in Latin and Esperanto respectively (they're related).  The English word is "us", but that's just English being weird.
voir -- "to see", "seeing" (again something I've remembered)
sur -- the same in Esperanto (OK, not much help to an English speaker so far)
FRAF -- same
un de ces -- "one of these"
quatre -- "four", maybe.  That doesn't make too much sense.

Pass us a seeing one of these four (???)

So, even not knowing the language, it's possible to kinda figure things out.  Don't give up.

On topic? What is the topic, Esplin? ^^

Very good, Wild! You understand almost everything ^^ About "un de ces quatre", it's a very French expression who means "un de ces jours" ("one of these days"/"sometime"/"once"). We often use it to say we gonna do something soon (or not so soon), but we don't know when exactly.
And Horse, if you hate French, learn Esperanto! Wild would be so glad to teach you ^^

Bad morf.  Bad.

Oatmeal + Yeerk + Dino + Tranquilizer + Skrit Na ...

Hmm.  You weren't not one of the morphing Yeerks from the end of the Terran war were you?  If so, I think I can figure out what happened.

I think I remember you from RAFclassic, too!  I remember you mainly because I would always mispronounce your name when I said it in my head.  For some reason, I always thought it was 'mrowr-foot'.  It wasn't until recently that I actually paid enough attention to realize it says 'morph out.'  Lol, I can be kinda thick that way.
