Title: What would Scholastic say?
Post by: Riza-san on January 17, 2009, 04:48:54 AM
Erh, Yo.  ;D

I'm sort of new to the whole concept of using a forum, so please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong and bear with me...

So I was typing in random words in the search box of the iTunes music store the other day because I was bored and I had to find some way to entertain myself. I decided to type in "Animorphs." The result made me very, very mad...  >:(

  Name                                       Time       Artist                  Album
Animorphs Aren't Cool Anymore     2:44       The Yellow Team   Here we go Agai...

Yes, I'm dead serious. That's what came up. I don't know if anybody has already seen this, but I just thought I should bring it up.

First of all, may I say HOW DARE this band pay out Animorphs when they most likely haven't even read the books! Animorphs is the best damn book series in existence, and here they are paying it out and claiming it isn't cool anymore! They should see what the Animorphs fan base has to say about the title of this song! -sniffle- Yes, I'm too emotionally attached to Animorphs. Pay me out about it.

It also makes me wonder what Scholastic would have to say about this. Some how I doubt they would be concerned about these people paying out Animorphs almost 13 years after they started being published. But still, I wonder if this somehow breaches copyright. Then again, there is that whole freedom of speech act. Hmmmm...

Thoughts?

Sheesh.  I kind of want to meet them, and show them this forum.  And then say "And how many people have heard of you?"

Oh yay, I love a good spamfest.
Yeah, I have never even heard of this band either  >:( Buncha nobodies.
I wonder what they would say if somebody "accidentally" informed Scholastic of this tiny copyright infringement.

... Heh.

personally, I don't see what the big deal is. if nobody's heard of these guys, and they aren't on wikipedia, and whatnot, then it doesn't matter what they think... as for scholastics...is this really copyright infringement? I'm still not completely sure...

Yeah  >:( Their opinions don't matter.

I'm not entirely sure if it counts as an infringement is either. Still, in my personal opinion I see it as offensive to everything Animorphs is, as it is denying the "coolness" factor. But that's just my opinion  :)

They say Animorphs are not cool anymore cause... they are growing up?
Not sure about the lyrics as I am not an English-speaker  :-\

Yeah, I listened to the song (at the suspense of my poor ears) and I think you may be right.

I managed to get the lyrics written down for anybody who is interested. I probably made a few mistakes though...

I remember summer days, Skate board parking, (SOMETHING SOMETHING)
And I remember highschool dances, asking girls for second chances
I'm not ready to except the fact that you've changed.
Because I've heard it all before, to me you're still the same.
I remember inside jokes (In method (?) )
But times have changed, Animorphs aren't cool anymore.    (BLASPHEMY!  >:()
So I'm moving on, I'm moving on, I'll forget about everything, that ever made sense to me.
I'm moving on, I'm moving on, And I'll give it my everything, I'll it my everyday.
So I'm moving on, I'm moving on, forget about everything that ever made sense to me.
I'm moving on, I'm moving on, and I'll it my everything, I'll give it my everyday.

How cheesy. This is exactly the reason why I listen to J-Pop. At least I wouldn't be able to identify the lyrics so I could poke fun at it.

But look at the bright side, it could have been worse. They only mentioned that awful line once, and I they didn't pay out any of the main characters. Still, don't think I'm gonna let this one go. Still think it gives them no excuse :-\  -Sigh-

Heck, no. I would never do such a thing to support those... Animorphs dissers.

I listened to it on their myspace page, and it almost killed my ears D;

Maybe "I'm not ready to accept the fact that you've changed" ?

Honestly, I don't think they literally mean that Animorphs are not cool.
To me, the whole thing is about how time is running, and how things change and how something they liked yesterday is today meaningless.
I think this song is more about nostalgia of childhood^^ and how you are forced to change.
When they say "Animorphs are not cool anymore" they could have said " This thing, that symbolizes something I really loved when I was a child, is not cool anymore cause I have to quit childhood"

Well, maybe I going to far...
But I think it would be pretty stupid to do anything against them.
Anyway the song hurt my head as well...
This voice is terrible  :-\

Yeah, You're probably right. I think in the whole sort of "lyric to English" thing, that would be what they were saying. There was, however, many other ways they could of said it besides saying "Animorphs isn't cool," though  :)

I don't think I'd really do anything against them, I just like to make a fuss XD One of my pastimes.  And yes, the voice was very terrible. Not exactly my taste in music.

I just listened to their song on their Myspace page, and I turned it off half way through because it was just horrible as a song, regardless of the fact that it disses Animorphs. In fact, if they didn't even have 'Animorphs' in the title, I doubt I would've even known it was about the series. I could barely understand the guy.

Just let it go. These guys aren't going anywhere soon.

Doesn't the fact that they are using Animorphs to improve their nonexistant career make Animorphs cooler than they are?

Oh, I found this song a while ago, and I was going to post about it but I forgot.

The song wasn't that great, but I didn't see it as dissing Animorphs so much as just using it as an example in their song.  I doubt the guy who wrote the lyrics really thought "Man, I really despise Animorphs, I'm gonna write a song about how much it sucks."

Besides, Animorphs isn't really cool anymore, to the majority of people.

It's not that big a deal. It's not really about animorphs. It's about leaving childhood behind, and embracing adulthood.

Now if they sang soley about Animorphs, and insulted it with the whole song, then I would dislike them. It's a weird title, though. Goodbye childhood might be more suitable.

Weird titles seem to be par for the course in contemporary music.

Now excuse me while I listen to "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict".  Those were the days when titles told you something about the music.  8)

As for copyright, they're definitely not infringing.  Tangentially, Riza, do you mean that the right to free speech is only protected by a legislative act in Australia?  :o  Yikes!  Here, it's in the Constitutions of not only the United States as a whole, but every State individually.

I wouldn't hate-spam their myspace either.  That will end up making us look like losers.

I listened long enough to hear the reference. And what they did to the voice hurts. I can barely understand what the guy is saying.

I understood this song as Tocade said.
I won't say their music sucks, how his voice is horrible nor ask why people buy it... no... I won't say it. But I don't like ^^'

No...
It would imply that it used to be cool...
Which is not a safe statement  ;D
