So yeah, I dunno if a topic like this has already been made (probably lol), and if it's not allowed or something, feel free to delete it. If it's allowed, then... yay? XD
I just recently finished watching the series thanks to this wonderful site for posting the episodes :) I have to say that of course, I was disappointed. But still, there were some episodes that were, idk, okay? At least, it seemed that way to me. For example, I thought they did the Oatmeal epi good ^-^
But one thing I really hated - and okay, there were a lot of things I hated about the show - was the fact that Cassie and Jake's relationship was pretty much nonexistent until Rachel convinced Jake to go to the dance with Cassie (all wrong :(). I mean, that did happen, but that wasn't what started their relationship. You knew Jake's relationship with Cassie from the first book, or you at least knew that he had a crush on her. And I really hated how it was like right off the bat, Tobias and Rachel liked each other :/ It was cheesy and super lame. Especially since it started out with Rachel's sister teasing her and calling Tuh-by-us her boyfriend (I personally always thought you pronounced Tobias as Toe-bi-us XD)
-
I have watched some episodes, and it wasn't all bad, but it wasn't as good as it could have been.
I heard that in one episode, Ax and Visser Three arm wrestle each other. As stupid as that is, I'd still like to see it for the humor aspect.
-
huh, really? I don't think I saw that lol. I pretty much skipped Visser Three parts since he just seemed to love being a human more than an andalite D:
Another thing that didn't make sense in the show :/
-
I kinda liked the show simply because it was a show about Animorphs. Sure it could've been better, but it was about The Animorphs!
-
where's the "love the books, liked the tv show" option?
-
Yeah, I actually looked for that option myself. Hate is a strong word.
-
I'm with Nohensen and morfowt on this. I love the books, but I only liked the TV show. It could have been better -- but then again, so could a lot of other things.
-
LOVED the books, HATED the TV show. I gave up on watching the show because it's a blatant insult to the books we all know and love. Low budget was only part of the problem, but the main problem was that the writers clearly hadn't read the books, or if they did they were just complete morons!
I never say the Ax/Visser Three fight, although I admit I'd be torn between the hilarity value and outrage and butchering an Andalite fight scene (they fight with their tail blades you idiots!) ::)
-
I'd likely be torn between the hilarity and insult too.
At first I loved the show, but then I misplaced my rose tinted glasses. In order to enjoy it, you really have to separate yourself from the part that wants to compare the show to the books.
-

I can't do that, not with Animorphs. They could have been more accurate to the books or they could have been intentionally different, but they did neither. Instead they created a disastrous attempt at copying the series. The way some of the episodes are done makes it seem like the writers were getting third hand descriptions of the books!
-
Neither could I, which is why I stopped watching them.
It's not a very big series, andyway. How many episodes are there? Like around twenty?
It reminds me of the zelda cartoon series, which is based off the video game Legend of Zelda. However, the creators of that cartoon only had two NES games to go off of. The creators of the ani TV show had over 20 books, if I'm not mistaken.
-
Yeah I think they started the TV show around book 20.
-
there was one episode that had Ax and tobias having a flashback and that was pretty cool in my opinion
-
I voted "like the books, hate the show", but it isn't true... I LOVED the books, and liked a little the show. In fact, I like to watch the show laughing of their mistakes and the bad actors (but animals are quite good actors!). And I like the episode 9 of the 1st season, when Jake eat snails to make Visser 3 and Tom to feel sick ;p and when he becomes a Controller! hehe ^^
-
I remember that episode! He noticed Tom and Victor don't like the idea of eating snails, so he savors the ones he eats.
-
where's the 'loved the book', 'thought the show wasn't any good' option?
i think they needed to spend a bit more money/have been technology to make the morphing/alien effects.
the andalites looked pathetic.
i remember something about 'the disk' and stopped watching there. :-\
plus it wasn't even on when i watched it (i borrowed a friend's VHS).
-
Yeah, exactly!! How a good moment! ^^
-
I love the books, but the show was just okay
I agree that they should've had writers who actually read the books or had KA be a part of the show. but since neither of those happened we got stuck with a werid subplot(the disk), THE WRONG ANIMALS(DUMBASSES!!!! they didnt even get the right type of hawk for Tobias) Rubber arm wrestling Andalites(very sad) no Taxxon(sadder)
The only good things I can think of is tht they made Cassie hot, they had her be allergic to the alligator instead cuz it was more ironic and cuz Rachel had way too many episodes, the actors were a bit too old but they were still good, and the Hork Bajir were okay(just wish we could've seen more of them)
-
I said I liked both, but I actually loved the books and liked the show.
-
I have been tempted to watch the show for humour value, which I actually tried last year. I watched an episode on YouTube and was instantly reminded why I stopped. I found myself mentally screaming at the screen every five seconds when something was wrong, inaccurate or just plain stupid.
-
I liked it coz Jake was hot.
I remember in the first episode Jake finds out Chapman is a controller because he sees him scratching his leg at the construction site, then he scratches it in the same way at school. ::)
lol.
-
Ha ha, yeah that's not jumping to conclusions or anything. Obviously scratching his foot is proof that the assistant principal at your school has an evil alien slug in his brain! ::)
My personal favourite is how all the Controllers start scratching their ears when the Animorphs are nearby...
-
yeah! haha.
And how Ax can tell if people are controllers just by looking into their eyes :P
-

same there. it's as if the people who made it didn't even read the books.
plus, none of the characters looked right. tobias was completely wrong.
cassie wasn't supposed to be pretty.
-
yeah! haha.
And how Ax can tell if people are controllers just by looking into their eyes :P
I thought it was hilarious that he knew Jake was a Controller, but only AFTER Jake scratched his ear! XD
-
Aw, if I ever do another poll, I'll make it more accurate or give more choices, promise XD
Neways, the whole scratching-the-ear thing was so lame :P
I think the one thing that made me realize how obsessed I was/am with Animorphs is when Ax told the group how he was enjoying his human morph and loved being in it. I was like "NOOO, THAT'S NOT TRUE! HE ENJOYS THE HUMAN MORPH FOR IT'S TASTE, BUT HE DOESN'T LIKE BEING IN IT FOR LONG"
At least, I think that was true XD
-
Yeah, Ax only likes the morph for taste and mouth sounds. Otherwise he missed his tail, and feels awkward and defenseless.
-
yeah! haha.
And how Ax can tell if people are controllers just by looking into their eyes :P
I thought it was hilarious that he knew Jake was a Controller, but only AFTER Jake scratched his ear! XD
yeah. it's as if all the yeerks had nervous tics.
-
As I told Esplin:
If the Animorphs from the books came to the TV show, the war would be finished after 5 days and the Yeerks destroyed.
If the Yeerks from the books came to the TV show, the Animorphs would be Controllers or dead after 2 days and Andalite planet after 1 month.
-

LOL yeah I love how they made it so obvious that somebody was a controller that should make the war a lot easier for them and who knows? maybe this little advantage would result in TV Rachel(HOT!!!!) staying alive ;D LOL tht show was so terrible

Ha ha, well said. I couldn't agree more.

Does anyone else notice how wrong it is that Rachel is a vegetarian in the show? :( A vegetarian?
-
I must have overlooked that. Weird. They also made her the one with claustrophobia. Cassie should be the vegetarian, though I'm not sure if she is in the books.
-
Yea she is.
-

*groan* At the risk of repeating myself over and over from previous threads, I'll correct a common misconception and say, yet again, that the writers were actually very good at adapting for the show. Writing for novels or comics or cartoons is very very different than writing for TV. You imagination has to be tamed. You have to worry about budget concerns, about what kind of special effects can be pulled off, about how big of a scope your story is allowed to work with, and in the case of Animorphs, what kind of animals are available.
Really go back and look at the way the stories were told and the way the dialogue was written on the show. The writers were not at fault for a poor Animorphs show (surprisingly), it was the lack of money that made them alter to what they could deliver on screen. You talk about them not knowing what the books were about, yet most of the episodes focused on their characters and their relationships with each other, their families, friends, etc. We got Elfangor's Hirac Delest (the disc) as an original way to be interpreted on to the TV show. It became Elfangor's legacy to Tobias, a guide for him to help him during the war. Heck, I wish they had done that in the books too. So if you're going to blame anyone for the poor Animorphs show, blame Nickelodeon for not dropping off enough money bags for the show. They're the ones who produced it!
yeah! haha.
And how Ax can tell if people are controllers just by looking into their eyes :P
I thought it was hilarious that he knew Jake was a Controller, but only AFTER Jake scratched his ear! XD
Look at that scene again. In book #6, Controller Jake gives a brief shocked/disgusted face when first meeting Ax and then quickly covers it up, but not before Ax catches it. In the TV show, Controller Jake does the exact same thing and Ax catches that too. The rubbing of the ear likely comes from the cause of soreness when Yeerk forces itself through the host's ear. To me, that's a reasonable explanation, and was a good way to pull off that scene.
-
I dont think you can blame everything to the lack of money. Ideas don't cost money, do they? I mean, even on a low budget, you could come up with better stories than they did. If I recal correctly, there was an episode where Marco defeated the yeerks, all by himself.
I get that because of their lack of money, they can't get the right morphs or even morph as often. And I get that the Hork-Bajirs can't show up as often as they should or that taxxons simply cannot exist all together. But still, the stories were pretty lame. :P
-
marco defeated the yeerks by himself? when was that? or did you mean defeat unarmed human controllers (which isn't very hard)?
-
I missed that episode too. Honestly, I could probably count the number of episodes I did watch on one hand.
-
I didn't miss it (cuz I watched all of them) but I don't recall Marco defeating the yeerks by himself...oh wait, are you talking about the 3-part episode, Face-Off? for some reason, that doesn't come across as "by himself" to me...
-
Tell me what happens, then, please.
-
well there's a basketball match at some high-school or something.
the sharing is gonna be doing some stuff there so the animorphs plan to check it out (and in ax's case, enjoy watching his first basketball match). meanwhile, jake morphs into a lizard and sneaks into tom's backpack, and finds out tom's been carrying the disk the whole time. rachel and cassie get to the place first and morph mice (or rats) and sneak inside and think they see tom giving the disk to chapman (actually it was a soda can) and relay the info to marco and ax when they arrive. tom goes down to the yeerkpool (there's an enterance in the school) and the alarm goes off (because jake is inside tom's backpack), so he tries to switch it off and ends up turning the morphing sensors (morphing sensors?) off, so jake uses the opportunity to demorph (out of sight). tom continues to the pool so he can feed, and chapman uses the opportunity to take the disk and he puts it on a window ledge. then he goes down to the game. jake morphs again and follows tom after the yeerk is done feeding and finds out about the yeerks that don't need kandrona rays (say what?), while ax finds out the disk isn't on chapman. tom traps jake in lizard morph in a room. rachel goes out to find tobias, while tobias finds the disk. when he touches it though, he starts to change. the yeerks' plan is revealed when there's an announcement for a tornado coming and for everyone to go underground (into the yeerk pool). outside, tobias becomes human and elfangor (or a hologram or something) appears before him. and that's the end of the first episode...
the second episode starts with rachel looking outside for tobias and finds him as a human. they need to get back inside so they go in through a yeerk pool entrance tobias found, with rachel morphed as a yeerk from the dna on the disk (don't ask me how). meanwhile, cassie, marco and ax are being led down to the yeerk pool to be infested along with everyone else from the stadium. Tobias and Rachel come across the room jake is trapped in but can't help him yet. they're told to escort some people for infesting. marco, cassie, and ax see tobias, and marco goes over to find out what's going on. tobias and rachel tell him everything so marco goes off to find jake. ax is worrying about his time limit. and so is rachel. tom is talking with visser three, and he can't seem to find the disk. he thinks the andalite (jake) took it, so he goes in. just before he does, jake manages to break the lights so the room is dark. tom goes in, and when the light turns on, we see two toms. that ends episode 2.
episode 3 starts with visser three asking which is the real tom. rachel manages to demorph in time, but they get captured by controllers, so now tobias, rachel, cassie, and ax are trapped in line, and ax is running out of time. over with tom, jake, and v3, a controller has brought a scanner and things are not looking good for jake. luckily, marco has found the controls and somehow made the room where the new yeerks are kept set to boil, killing the yeerks. ax is almost stuck in morph, but in the darkness manages to demorph in time. marco morphs ****roach but gets crushed by a rock. in the end, they all managed to escape and head over to the arcade place they always hand out at. and that's pretty much it...

Rachel isn't Rachel in the show.
The important thing about Rachel in the books is that her mind absolutely doesn't fit to her body. But in the show, it fit very well... she's a stupid useless blond beautiful girl ^^ (PS: sorry for the blond beautiful girls, it's just that in France we have jokes about them... ^^')
And Morfowt, I watched this episode yesterday or the day before... and I saw a biiiiig mistake: Rachel is afraid to be trapped in the Yeerk body... but Tobias doesn't care to be trapped in his Human body... I didn't watch the next episode yet, so I don't know if he stay Human, but he stayed so long in his human body in the last episode, he must be trapped now ^^'
-
I missed that episode too. Honestly, I could probably count the number of episodes I did watch on one hand.
yeah, i think i watched the first 5. don't remember many of them.
-

in fact no he's not trapped. in a later episode, changes, he morphs and demorphs...although he appears so many times as a human, he might as well be trapped in morph...
-

I'm with Nohensen and Goom. I watched one episode and parts of a couple others on YouTube and decided not to watch anymore. I don't blame them for not having a budget, but for someone with a vivid imagination and a clear picture of the amazing things that Applegate writes about in your mind, the show is a disappoinment.
-
AniJen, the best way to watch this TV show is when you think it's a joke from the beginning to the end, a kind of Vegemorphs, but still with animals. I laugh a lot watching the show, thinking they're just so ridiculous, and applauding the animals for their good role-playing ^^
-
marco defeated the yeerks by himself? when was that? or did you mean defeat unarmed human controllers (which isn't very hard)?
well, I remember him claiming that he defeated the yeerks all by himself at the end of the episode ^^;;
-
Rachel is afraid to be trapped in the Yeerk body...
rachel morphs a yeerk in the show? ???
-
Rachel is afraid to be trapped in the Yeerk body...
rachel morphs a yeerk in the show? ???
Yep, so she can go in to Tobias's head and not get caught by the yeerks :D
-
dang, they really screwed that up. :P
-
So Rachel infests Tobias? I wonder how that plays out.
-
it is screwed up D:
Though, speaking of Tobias, I didn't really like the way they played him out in the show. It may be a minor detail, but at the beginning he didn't send out vibes that said: beat me up! please beat me up! I'm a bully magnet! On the contrary, he seemed like he could beat up anyone he wished. Plus, it didn't seem like he looked up to Jake as much as he did in the books. He didn't look up to Jake at all :P
-
Yeah, Tobias and Rachel are totally wrong in the show. Cassie and Jake aren't very good too ^^'
It's why I always thought the hawk who plays Tobias and the dog who plays Homer are the best actors. Now, some lizards and mouses aren't bad actors, too ^^ lol
-
O-M-G, tell me about it!
Jake didn't seem anti-being leader at all! And Cassie didn't seem to care about animals as much and Marco just wasn't as against yeerks and Rachel was a total dumb blond and Tobias was a brooding loner!
The animals in the show were awesome though ;D
-
haha ^^ Yeah, Jake in the show makes me remember about
Kyle Kale in Vegemorphs: useless, doesn't know what to do... For example, when Marco ask him "What we do now", he answers "No idea, I have no plan". True Jake always find a plan ;)
Cassie doesn't really care, it's true. In fact, Rachel seems to care much more ^^'
... if we wanna say all the mistakes about the characters, we'll never stop...
