Title: Reading them now, some parts are cringeworthy...
Post by: Altephor on January 03, 2009, 06:00:00 PM
Sorry, but it would be ridiculously easy to take Visser Three out of commission.  They find his feeding place multiple times, and every time they go in as morphs.  Just get a rifle and take him out with a single shot.

Obviously, kid's books so that wasn't an option for KA.  But realistically, easy.

Even easier than that would be taking him out at the Sharing. Get him during a speech or something. The Animorphs aren't like that, though. They're more like superheroes than guerilla soldiers. They try not to become "like the enemy".

Funnily enough, I always said the exact same thing about Voldemort in Harry Potter! Either that or just find out roughly where he is and nuke him!  >:D

A little different with Harry Potter.  Plenty ways he could stop such a thing.  The rules in that particular universe make human technology somewhat irrelevant.  But in Animorphs, although it's consider primitive compared to Andalites and Yeerks, human technology is still shown to be effective.  And it would be quick enough that he could not simply morph or be repaired by his fellow controllers.  But I suppose if KA started writing the animorphs as carrying rifles it wouldn't present a very good image.

Maybe the animorphs thought it was more clever to let him live as he scared his troops and all of them hated him and feared him so much that it made them not completely efficient.

I believe they said they could have killed him but if he was dead the yeerks might bring in someone more effective. Better the enemy that you know.

Killing him would do what? In a few days they have a new commander anyway

A commander that can't morph huge beasts. V1 may have been smarter, but less dangerous in a battle.

she has strategy and tactics. Sure i could nuke the funk out off your country and be a big bad monster but if i do a little sabotage and know how to trick/counter you i win

yea Visser one would have been even worse. She may not have been the bet fighter, but she knew strategy. They'd be dead in a week even if she never figured out their secret

Plus they knew visser 3 very well. They knew his flaws, his huge ego... and they knew how to trick him, how to manipulate him ...

The fact that Visser 1 figured out they were human so fast is proof of how much more dangerous she was compared to Visser 3.

maybe they needed the series to go on longer.

The series does need to go longer.  I think whenever they create a good universe, they should continue expanding and explaining it.  All the species and stuff in Animorphs are so cool, so every book we learn more stuff.

Yes the series needed to go on longer  ::)
That's also the reason why none of the animorphs were killed before the end.
That's also the reason why Elfangor was killed at the start...
Also the reason why Tobias was given his morphing power back... etc etc

hey everyone! it's my first post here! sorry for reviving something that's been dead for so long.
but the reason why they never really killed him was something jake (i think) said: 'better the enemy you do know than the one you don't" . plus i dont think they saw killing V3 in any way vital to winning the war.
