I think Jake kinda fits the preppy/jock stereotype.
What do you guys think about it and what groups do the other animorphs fit into?
-
I don't think Jake was the type who would fit into one specific cliq. For one, his best friend was Marco and he's definately not preppy. Sure, Jake has some preppy characteristics. He liked basketball, but he didn't even make the team. Also, he was very accepting of others such as Tobias.
Rachel would be prep.
-
I think Jake was more just normal. No specific clique, just a kid. He did seem like he could've been preppy.
-
Idk i think he fits the like suburban kid who wants to play sports and stuff perfectly
-
Did he ever pop his collar? Noooooo...lol...may be my image of prep is messed up. I think that's the DB look now.
I think he was more of the average kid. Prep involves a lot of socialising and I don't think Jake was into that. He just liked hanging out with Marco, shooting hoops and playing video games.
-
Rachel was, i think Jake was close, maybe Tom too.
-
Jake was far from preppy. Rachel defiently, but not Jake. Cassie probably would be too just for the fact that she's Rachel's best friend(IDK how it works at other schools but at mine if ur friends with the people in a certain group then you'll most likely be considered a part of that clique. Basically grouped by association. But I've found a loophole. I'm friends with people in every clique ;D)
-
Cassie wouldn't be by association or any other way. Cassie is far from it.
-
I would say Tom was definately a prep boy. He was the basketball star *swoosh swoosh*
I would say that Cassie has some association by her relationship to Rachel. Cassie was still friends (somewhat) with Melissa Chapman, right?
(wow...I can't believe I'm posting in the Ani board)
-
yeah she doesn't fit the prep personality but she'd probably make a good one if she tried. tobias definetly would've turned goth if he didnt join the Animorphs(the Sharing in MM4)
-
Tom was definitely preppy. But, I doubt Cassie would ever want to try, unless she cared that much about being like Rachel or something. It wasn't her personality, so it doesn't really seem like it would ever happen.
-
I don't really know what preppy is....
yay for Australian schools!

No preps in Aussie schools!!! wow everything's all upsidedowny there like they're on the other side of the world or something. LOL preps r probably one of the largest cliques in the US Goth/emo/posers comes in a close 2nd
-
Not exactly sure wht a typical preppy guy is. However, Jake is good friends with Cassie and Marco. So he doesn't fit with a certain group. All three of them are different from each other. Rachel and Tom I can agree with.
-
I looked it up.
Yea, we have those people here.. but.. I don't think we have a name for them. There was a whole group of Arab boys who dressed like that.. we called em Metros I think lol.
Jake can't be a prep. That ruins my image of him...
-
I see Jake as a jeans-and-a-tshirt laid back friends with everyone sort of guy. He may have leaned towards the preppy side, as an influence from Tom (who was definitely prep). In fact, a lot of Jake's preppier qualities, ie trying out for the team, came from Tom. However, I don't think Tom would be as quick to befriend people like Tobias. Jake just didn't care what others thought of him.
-
lol I knew an actual teacher would get in on this conversation u work in inside of the cliques' habitats
-
I'm inside all of your heads. :P I know how you work.
-
I think Rachel was the preppiest. Jake may have been to some extent, but Marco seems like more the slacker/class clown type, so that's not the norm.
And Tobias was totally the emo kid, right? xDD
-
Yeah, Tobias was emo, but I don't envision him as goth or anything. I don't picture him in dark clothes or with black hair and long bangs. :P
-
Yeah, Tobias was the old emo, not the new emo. If you know what I mean. ;)
-
Yeah. More of the loner kid. Not the hair over one eye, eyeliner, skinny jeans emo.
What clique would Cassie fit into?
-
Well.. shes sort of Tomboy really..
-
Yeah. More of the loner kid. Not the hair over one eye, eyeliner, skinny jeans emo.

.....hmm....Lesiban? LOL jk. Like I said before she's probably prep by association
-
Jake had all the makings of a prep, but he choose not to be, which is what makes him great.
Rachel can't be a prep either
she hurt to many people to be prep
(physically hurt, that is)

Actually, Blue, based on her personality and the way she dresses and stuff she would be labeled as a lesbian at my school. Whether she was or not, people would assume she was. >.>
-
Cassie might be in the hippie/vegetarian crowd. Rachel might be in the fashion police/cellphone talking/money spending crowd.
Does anyone think it's odd that she says looks don't matter, but is obviously interested in clothing styles? Sounds like a hypocrite. Don't tell her I said that, though! :-X
-
Just because she thinks looks don't matter to how you feel about someone doesn't mean she doesn't think they matter at all. Wanting to look good and wanting to help your friends look good doesn't mean you care more about the looks than the person. She was best friends with Cassie even though she wore crappy clothes and didn't care about her looks.
There's a difference between not caring about how you look and not letting it affect how you treat people.
-
So yeah, there are three styles for Jake, metro/prep/ and DB....hahaha XD.
but yes, I think if Jake tried hard enough he could have been a prep, but he just didn't care enough. I could see him as the quiet strong type that girls have a secret crush on. but his association with marco, who fits in more with the laid back/slacker/jokers group probably has Jake leaning more toward just being that normal average guy who happens to possess very good qualities.
As for Tobias, I think he could actually go skater look and style if he wanted to.
Cassie...by association with Rachel could be prep, but i think if she cared she could probably do better than Rachel! She's a thinker, so not only prep, but smart and deadly intelligent, so she could take a lead. if she wanted to. otherwise, i think cassie might actually fit in with the goodie goodie slightly nerdish slightly odd girls.
-
Ummm... Rachel was really smart too, she got the best grades out of all of them and she was always studying. Plus she got that academic award, no one else did.
-

Yeah, you're probably right.
-
Rachel is the epitome of hot. haha
-
Jake was definitely not preppy. I wouldn't say any of the Animorphs were at all preppy. Rachel may have appeared to be preppy in the same way that she could have been mistaken for a dumb blonde; if you talked to her you'd realise how wrong you were.
-
Well all this being said, I pose another question if it wasn't for the war, do you think Jake would have ended up not preppy?
Because my train of thought is that he would have ended up as the jock bball star if it wasn't for the yeerks taking Tom and everything else that followed.
-
Jake wanted to be like Tom. That much is certain. When he got older, he may have wanted to be a bit different from Tom because teenagers typically strive to create individual identities. But we do know that he really cares for Tom, and he wanted to play basketball because of his big brother.
-
yeah, but that's really not enough to make you a star like Tom. who knows, maybe he really could have gone even furrther than tom.
-
I think Jake's the type of guy that would have outgrown basketball, or at least not become a ****y jock because of it. One of the reason's that Jake lost interest in it was because Tom did. Admittedly that was because of The Sharing, but a million other things (like getting a girlfriend) could have done the same thing.
-
hey, do you think Jake would have ended up with Cassie if the invasion didn't happen?
-
hey, do you think Jake would have ended up with Cassie if the invasion didn't happen?
Might have taken a while, but I think he would have.
-
hey, do you think Jake would have ended up with Cassie if the invasion didn't happen?
What do you mean? He was already with Cassie before the invasion happened.
-
you guys are basing these assumptions that Jake is over the whole preppy thing based on him during and after the invasion. Think of chapter one of the invasion. He was basically like, didn't make the basket ball team, no big deal. Saying it like that makes it understood it was a HUGE deal.
-
hey, do you think Jake would have ended up with Cassie if the invasion didn't happen?

but if Jake took a different path...maybe they wouldn't hang around each other as much or bond as much...
-
Jake wasn't with Cassie before the invasion, he just knew her as Rachel's friend.
As for not making the basketball team, of course it was a big deal for a 13 year old guy who looked up to his brother, but time heals most wounds. As life went on, I don't think it would bother him as much even without the invasion around.
-
Jake wasn't with Cassie before the invasion, he just knew her as Rachel's friend.
That isn't the impression I got. Either way, I do think they would have been together without the war. The war, towards the end at least, is what drove them apart. Jake became a different person, and Cassie betrayed Jake.
Of course, people change regardless of the stresses of war. I suppose it was just too much change for Cassie to handle.
-
I don't think that Jake would have turned out preppy without the war. If nothing else, Marco would have prevented that. Marco is his best friend and doesn't fit into the preppy mold. Not only that, but NOT being on the bball team is discouraging and he is less likely to try out again. Not being within a sports circle makes it less likely that he'll be preppy (not that all preps are sporty, but still).
Then again, to completely contradict myself, I've known people with all 5 of the Ani's personalities within all types of social groups. Preps, nerds, jocks, punks, burnouts, etc. etc. So maybe Marco could have become preppy and still been Marco.
-
LOL Tobias would be a stoner
-
ahahahaHAHAHAHA, yes!
