Title: Taxxon can be killed with a can opener
Post by: Bootlebat on September 24, 2014, 06:22:23 PM
something I've always wondered about is: in the book Visser Visser One says a taxxon can be killed with a can opener. So I am wondering how exactly would one kill a taxxon this way? Also on a similar note before #43 I always pictured taxxons being completely black in color except for their eyes which would be red. Anyone else?

Probably an exaggeration. I think their color has been described with some yellow in them in earlier books.

Basically anything relatively sharp can cause an injury, and any injury will result in cannibalism.

Their colour wasn't described at all until they appeared on the cover of 43. Me and a friend of mine used to argue about it CONSTANTLY. (I thought they were green, she thought they were red) It's one of the reasons I was bummed about them not being in the TV show, lol.

Turned out we were both wrong, though I was closer.

I always pictured them the same color as an earthworm.

Wonder why she never said what color they are

Probably just never thought of it, completely unaware of the rampant debate among readers, lol. (Either that or it just took her that long to figure it out herself)

I always pictured them being the sort of yellowy-tan color they are on the cover, which is weird. I think maybe she described them as looking like centipedes (though I googled and a lot of centipedes are not that color) maybe that is where I got it from.

Anyway as for being killed be can openers, yeah, I always got the impression you could kill a Taxxon with just about anything. A can opener, a baseball bat, a plastic spork. (Ok maybe not the spork but pretty close.) I believe they were described like a wet paper bag but I might be mis-remembering. It's time for a reread.

When being rammed by dolphins, it was like going through a wet paper bag. I doubt you could punch through one with your fist. At least I'd like to think there is at least some harness there.

I always pictured them as having a soft, many-sectioned shell, similar to a ****roach's in color, feel, and strength (not proportionally, though).  Looking like this little cutie (http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/08/04/article-2384453-1B252B8D000005DC-592_634x423.jpg), basically.

And yeah, you could probably make a nasty gouge just by throwing the can opener.  Or anything else, really.  The Taxxons had a pretty sad existence.

It seems like each Taxxon was designed to be extremely expendable, because they are a hive mind species. Which always made me wonder if each Taxxon was individually intelligent. They've clearly got a brain that a Yeerk can inhabit, so it's either that the hive mind Mothers are freakishly smart or the individual Taxxons themselves are relatively vague.
