According to Ax, the Andalites did not have books before they had computers. What did the Andalites use to store information before they invented computers?

their minds. they can probably remember a lot, and utzum can even be treated like a data transmission... pretty useless when used for that, though. but thought speak can be used to transmit text, sounds, video (book 1).

The real question with that is when did Andalites develop thought speak? In the Ellimist Chronicles, we learn they do not have that ability very early in their civilization and are using sign language to communicate. If thought speak is a more recent evolution, it's hard to imagine they wouldn't have some other way to store data.

I think they had books, but it's as far back in their history as the invention of the wheel is for humans.
Andalite technology developed much slower than humans are advancing, according to Ax, and given how advanced their computer technology is now, I imagine that Andalites have had computers for quite a few thousand years now.
I think Ax was just never educated about early Andalite civilization, so he is completely ignorant about Andalite books.
