I thought everyone might enjoy seeing these illustrations which appeared in the Japanese translation of The Invasion, they're quite nice.

edit: On second thought, is this better suited for the Animorphs forum then here?
-
whoa....those are really interesting. They kinda look like animorphs but it gives a different feel to it.
-
Nice sketches! Makes me wonder what Animorphs would've been like as a comic book...
-
I love these. It really does just give a whole new feel to the book. I think it would of been a fine addition to the English version. :D
-
Oh WOW, these are so kick ass. That last one especially with them fighting in the Yeerk Pool is awesome!
I never even knew that the Japanese books had additional illustrations inside. Do you mind if I add these to the Hirac Delest archive Mirienne? I'll be sure to give you proper credit. ;D
-
Please do!
Actually, I can send you higher resolution ones if you'd like.

Sorry for the bad quality, but I took the photos with my webcam to do it quickly and I'm tired tonight ^^'
-
Those are KICK ASS. Thanks for posting them.
-
Dou itashimashi te
-
WOW~! the covers ...a.re...certainly different, haha.
But I especially like the one with Tobias over the wolves, and the one where they're all fishing with tobias in the background. I also like the one with Tobias over the gymnast (Rachel)? I think that it conveys the feeling that tobias is a watcher, a loner, but yet, still part of the team, and still has feelings (especially for Rachel).
Do the books have the morphs on the corner of the pages that are like a flip book? BTW, what is the last pic?
-
Those were sweet!
-
Ah, those are so awesome. *o* Thanks for posting them!
I really want to get the rest of the Japanese books now.
-
Oh those are awesome! Thanks guys! The last one for the invasion was great, I'm using it as my background now lol
-
i love all of them
-
awe-some!
-
is it just me, or are there five dolphins in the picture? is one of them a real dolphin?
-
could be Ax?
btw, i still dun understand the last pic...
-
Hem, yeah, maybe they mistaked a little, about the 5 dolphins.
And I thought the same things about Tobias on so many pictures ^^
The last picture is when they leave the spaceship with the help of Visser 1 (who is on the picture before)
The books aren't expensive at all:
Japanese Animorphs on Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?__mk_ja_JP=%83J%83%5E%83J%83i&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=%83A%83j%83%82%81%5B%83t&x=0&y=0) (100 yen = 1$)
I had every book between 1 yen (yeah!) and 200 yen. Now it's just a little mode expensive.
And mine are in so good quality that I think nobody read them before.
And yes, there is the transformations, as you can see on the 2nd picture... and the animal is also on the side of the book (1st picture). In fact the books are really good made (except maybe for the front covers ^^'), it's collection books ;)
-
They are really well made! They're hardcover, have the little ribbon for the bookmark and everything.
And you got a really good deal, Dameg, I bought mine full price. D:
-
every book for under 2 dollers now thats a deal
-
does the morphs on the corners of the pages looks the same as the english versions?
-
No, they are silhouettes instead of actual pictures, and the poses are different. You can kind of see it in Dameg's picture here (http://damegdl.free.fr/Perso/Animorphs/animorphs_jap_01_0b.jpg).
-
man, they look so punk rock.
hahahahah
-
Haha yeah Liz ;) I saw them on Amazon a long time ago but waited I be in Japan to buy them. Now I'm quite good about buying books on Internet... I bought too many books from other countries ;)
About the morphs on the corners, I think they're different for each version. It also must be different between French and American, and even maybe between English and American... because it's often from the cover and they're different in man countries...
Now if you want the full collection, in every language, it'll be hard ;)
-
let's begin!
-
those're nifty :)
-
U :headbang:
The smily says it all.
-
Beyond awesome :sign0200:
-
Thos are amazing
-
Oh man, when Dave and I were visiting our friends in Japan I looked in every stinkin' bookshop we came across for Animorphs...even had help from my Japanese-speaking friend to try and figure out how to write the Japanese title XD "'Animofu' wa arimasu ka?" Sigh...to no avail. These are awesome ;D
-
lol Myitt, you should try by Internet. You can't find them in shops.
I don't remember if I gave the link, so:

Why?
Why is Japanese stuff so much cooler?
Actually, I wonder how good the translation is--I certainly hope it's as nice as the illustrations. My Japanese skills are not anywhere near good enough to tell the difference between a good and bad translation yet, but, heck, at a couple bucks a piece I can afford to buy two copies of each and scan one. (Destructively. A good scan requires unbinding. But, oh, how I hate to do that to a book! :'()
Which reminds me... Anyone interested in a Japanese-language study group? I am not currently actively studying the language, but mostly because I don't have much study material nor a discussion group. I wonder how difficult these books are. Yes, I see that there are kanji, but it is possible for an adult learner to jump right in. Beneficial even--that way you don't build up a huge backlog of kanji to learn later.
Tomorrow I'll see if I can pick up a textbook (since I'm going to the bookstore anyway), but there aren't any classes in the area, unfortunately.
-
If you want the text in Japanese, I can do that easily ^^ And we have scanners in the university... So if I can enter the University during holidays, I can scan (a part of) the first book...
And Japanese stuff isn't really cooler: they had only 5 books translated!!
Edited: If you make a group of study, I'll come.

The translation seems pretty accurate from what I can tell. I think a study group would be a great idea!
I skip a lot of the kanji myself (I only know up to second grade and a few from the higher grades), but I can get the meaning from context and already knowing the story. There are some furigana though, which also helps.
And I could scan my copy if I ever get the time. Which I don't see happening this semester. :P

Unfortunately shipping and the exchange rate makes the total for just one book over fifty bucks! :o The book alone is 16, and the marketplace sellers can't ship to the U.S....;__;
-
Sure if you buy and ship them individually from Amazon. ::)
Pay a friend/casual acquaintance/pen pal/random Japanese person met on lang8/business contact/whomever to order several at once, throw them in a box, and ship it. Along with a couple volumes of your manga/dorama/consumer-electronics/cute-stuffed-animal/whatever-addiction-of-the-moment. Shipping per item is less expensive for larger packages.
-
You could use a shopping service. I've heard good things about Celga (http://www.celga.com/beta/index.php?page=welcome) and Crescent Shop (http://www.crescent-shop.com/index.htm).
I won't be buying anything from Japan for a while, myself, with the exchange rate as it is. :-\
-
I could help... of course I could... but I don't do that for free ^^' If you want I buy and send things from Japan for you, you should pay for it...
But you can ask...
-
I'd be careful with Celga, they ripped me off a while back.
But anyway, awesome scans. I never knew Animorphs has a Japanese release, and it was a plesant surprise to see how un-manga-like the artwork is. Not that I have a problem with manga-style, I love manga. I just don't like the illustrations in all my Japanese language books.
-
haha yeah, it was a big surprise to see it's really different to usual Japanese drawings... I don't really like the front pictures, but the black&white ones are great ^^ And there were only 5 books translated in Japanese, and not famous, not easy to find... So if you wanna own them, buy them soon ^^ They'll disappear slowly, like the other old kid books in all the languages after 10 or 15 years...
-
Wicked!!! Nicely done sketches. So these were actually used in the translated Japanese Editions? Kewl!
They all managed to capture scenes from the books real well.
-
yeah ^^ maybe it can help you for some scenes.
-
Those are awesome looking. I always assumed they didn't change anything else when they translated.
-
These are outstanding. Never liked the cover art or bindings on American Animorphs books. I used to call it my "Skittle shelf".
