The site is pretty much ready for work, but we're missing one piece of the puzzle: everyone who doesn't act!
What we need are:
Timers - These are the people who cut together the multiple parts into one single audio stream.
Directors - You direct. More? Fine. These people will be reviewing the actor's work before sending it to the timers.
Managers - Responsible for directing the "flow of traffic" of various tasks to various roles. I can do some of this to start, but eventually we will need others.
I don't think I missed any jobs, but I might add something if I forget it.
If you can do any of these, post with what job you want, and (if you aren't signed up yet) your username for the site. Weathel will get people signed up when he has the chance, but we can start assigning jobs right away.
Thanks for any help you guys can give.
-
well since weathel thinks I'm a (non-official) director, why not? director then... although I think I might give up some of my acting roles, just so it's fair to everyone. depends on how many people are still in this project...
-
I think I could pull off being a timer, actually. I was quite good at that back in audio/video class. And I though I have, like, 3 acting roles, let's face it, I still don't get that many lines, and I want to be able to help out more.
I'll need to run a couple of tests through GarageBand, first, to make sure it's possible for me to do it on this computer, but I'm 99% sure that I can do it.
EDIT: After doing a quick test, it seems like I can import mp3s into GarageBand with no trouble. And iTunes can convert most audio files into mp3... Still, it would be easier for me if everything was an mp3 to start with. ^^;
-
If the job's not taken, I'll sign ip for Director! :D
I've been wanting to get more active in some project, and I really think I could do this! :D
If you want me, I'm here!
*EDIT*
Wait, what site am I supposed to sign up for/post my username for?
-
Ok, a few clarifications.
Anidragon, you can be a timer. Do you already have an account on the site? We're probably going to be using FLAC files to keep the size down but keep full quality. You can use this here to convert them. Just don't convert them to mp3 or another lossy format.

Broken, sure, you can be a director. I saw you found the thread for the site. The bad news is that weathel just left for a week, so we'll get a list of everyone who needs to sign up and then get them all at once.
Now that we have at least one of everyone except manager, we can pretty much start.
EDIT: now Anidragon actually has a link to follow. Whoops.
-
I'm already registered, yeah. I'm not sure if GarageBand can read FLAC files, but so far it seems to be very good about most sound files. If I encounter any trouble, I'll let you guys know.
Do I need to change anything on my profile for the original site? Or is someone else taking care of that?

so... does that mean I don't get director? not that I mind, but I would like it clarified before starting...

Well, Morf has seniority, so if he wants it, it's his, I no wanna step on toes.
However, if I am to be a director, what exactly shall I be doing? Do y'all send the audio files to my email, and I download them? Do I need any special programmes?
-
A director. We could certainly use more than one. The way the system will work is:
Manager creates segment, assigns segment to actor.
Actor records, submits to director.
Director listens, critiques, either sends back to actor or to timer.
Timer edits all segments together into a chapter.
Basically, you critique the actor's work and make suggestions. All the file distribution is done through the site. As for programs, anything that plays FLAC. Try VLC, it's a great program to have anyway, and it plays nearly everything.
Morf, could you take a screenshot of the audiobook site and send it to me? I want to see weathel created a different account type for you.
-
I think I have VLC! :D Okay, so yeah, whenever I can help!
One thing, I'm not gonna e online quite as much for a little while, the internet at work is gone, and I'm moving soon. But, I should still be able to do this, considering I have a laptop, and Wifi is everywhere now-a-days.
Also, if anyone needs to reach me about this to tell me to hurry the hell up, ect, if I'm not online (My email is: codythibault@gmail.com btw.) you can (almost) always reach me on my phone, 757-319-3600, or AIM, which sends a text message directly to my phone. AIM is in my siggy. Phone number is too, now that I think of it. Haha.
So, just gimme my post-orders, and I'm ready to roll! :D
-
Well, Morf has seniority, so if he wants it, it's his, I no wanna step on toes.
surely it's not just one director is it?
well I'm not sure what page of the site you want, so here's the home page...
-
Alright, so actors and other roles don't look any different. However, I did notice that you are listed as a director. I'm sure weathel can just change member types. We'll add that to a to-do list. On that note, does someone want to make him a to-do list with accounts to make/change?
Once he gets back, we should be good to go.
-
Ummm, like I said, if I can be of any help, just tell me!:D
My point: If there's anything other than Director you want my help with, just let me know. For the next few days, I've plenty of free time! :D
-
Well, I think more than one director would be best for now. Like I said, anybody can temporarily manage. Broken, if you could make a list for weathel? Just figure out who needs to be signed up for what type of account. I'm about to make a thread for my temporary departure, so someone needs to keep track until weathel gets back Saturday-ish. Until that, there's not much actual directing to be done.
-
Sure! Okay, guys, you 'eard 'im! PM me if you still need to be signed up. :D
-
This will be my last post for a bit, so:
If we could get one manager, that would be great. Broken, please ask Weathel to tell the manager how to work it all.
I'm going to leave you guys to it. If we get ready to record, then put out an announcement and get it rolling!
~Mr. Guy
-
Okay, I've gotten no PMs. :(
Is there anyone that needs sign up? PM me with whatever info, and I'll comprise a list for Weathel.
On another note:
If anyone else can come up with something for me to do, lemme' know! :D
Another thing, are there already recordings the Directors need to be listening too?
I'm not really sure exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, but I really do want to get active in the RAFprojects, so again, lemme' know! :D
-
Hey cool, time to post!
Broken, I just realized that you haven't actually seen the site yet. The way it will work is that you will have a to-do list that will automatically update with recordings to listen to. You will listen to them, and then either send them back to the actor with comments or on to the timer.
So basically, just wait until the site is running with everybody, then it will all start.
-
Okay! :)
...So, about this list for Weathel.... What should I be doing, exactly?
-
Wow, this thread/board is incredibly inactive, this makes me sad. :(
-
get used to it. that's how this project usually is
-
Were the E-Books the same way?
-
Were the E-Books the same way?
I'm not sure about that. I wasn't part of the ebooks and they were done once I started being active on RAF.
-
I was about to reply when I lost Internet. Sorry guys. Weathel should be back soon. He can help with the site. If anyone can find/be a manager, that is really the only role we need.
I'll be on as much as I can.
-
C'mon, guys! It'll look great on a RAFcollege resume'!
-
I'll bite. If you clearly enough tell me what you want me to do to get me started, I'll be manager.
-
Oh. It'd be great if my name over there could be Jess! or Jess
-
Jess, can you be a manager? If you talk to weathel, he can show you around the site. Basically, you'll be setting up the parts and divvying up work for everyone. You seem to have experience from mafia, so if you're willing, that would be great.
-
That's what I said, goofy. :P
So, Weathel, drop me a line sometime. :)
-
Okay, for the time being I have to back out. :'(
My sound is all distorted on my laptop. :(:(:(
I'll let y'all know when I get it fixed!
-
Depending on when we get this up and running, and how much work managing is, I could probably help out with some of the directing in addition to managing.
-
Anyone who needs an account, could you post in the sign-up thread? Then we can keep it all in one place. Jess, PM me once you have an account and I'll show you around.
-
Ready to go, Guy.
I'm Jess, on there.
-
Alright, Jess, I'm leaving the house now. When I get back, I'll give you the whole thing. For now, if you go to "Create Content" on the right side, you can create parts for all the characters. List the title as the character name, and you can put yourself as supervising manager.
-
Ok. That was confusing. I'm on my way to my dad's oncology appointment. I'll either be back after, or I might to go to work. Either way, I'll be back around 7pm either way. I'll be on skype if you want to hit me up there.
-
Unfortunately, I'm out of town and on my dad's laptop. I have neither Skype nor a microphone. So either we need to find another way, or wait until Saturday when I'm back on my computer.
-
Mmmm. I'll be busy on Saturday. Sunday night, perhaps?
-
Deal. Weathel, if you see this, any chance you can be there?
-
I can be there
not that anyone cares, of course
-
Sounds great. I'll be online after 7pmish
-
Hey guess what! I created all of the parts. Yay for ambition! (and double posting!)
-
Whoops, sorry Morf, brain fart there. Yeah, of course you can join in. Jess, I'm off to check the site to see what you've done.
-
Yesssssssssss morf, come! (That was what my "Sounds great!" was in reference to!)
Also, IDK what happened, but all of the parts after "Yami" are missing. I had done the ENTIRE list....any clue what happened to them?
-
RE: FLAC files
The link you posted a while back said, "MacFLAC" will they still work on a PC? I have an HP with Audacity. will Audacity create FLAC files?
-
Audacity can handle FLAC by default. Go to Edit->Preferences->File Formats tab and find the uncompressed export format drop-down. Change it to 16-bit FLAC, and then you can just go to File->Export as FLAC
-
Mmmm. I'll be busy on Saturday. Sunday night, perhaps?
what time?
-
After 7pm central/6pm eastern. I'm pretty sick right now, and if I'm feeling like this tomorrow I won't be able to make it. I'll post something on here tomorrow afternoon and let ya'll know how I'm doing.
-
um... I think I might be ready by 7:30 or 8 (eastern)... depending on the situation tomorrow.
-
Yeah. Wow. That should have been 7pm central/8pm easter. DUh.
Can you tell the fever is messing with my head?
-
not really since I didn't know you have a fever...
-
Do you guys still need timers? I'm pretty handy using Audacity on my laptop to cut stuff together.
-
I'm pretty sure we do.
-
Ok, I'm feeling okay right now, so I will be there. It might be a wee bit later than 7pm, but it will be within the hour.
Just as a heads up, I CANNOT talk on skype, I can only type/chat.
-
Crap. I haven't even had dinner yet, so I will be late. No idea how late. Nice call on the chat room, Jess, but if it works for others, I would prefer to Skype so I can talk and do other stuff at the same time.
-
Mmkay, but I can't talk on skype, or listen on skype, so that will be a problem for me.
-
I'm hyper-green on Audacity. I can slow the track, raise and lower my voice, do the thought speak trick. But editing and timing is not my forte at all.
Thanks on the help with the FLAC files. I have all my Jake's Dad's lines recorded. All I have to do is lower my voice, and separate them into the proper books and chapters.
-
Are we in need of any non-acting roles still? I'd be willing to be a director, timer, or manager. I have directed and edited before, outside of the internet. And as I'm playing a small acting part I'd be willing to take on additional responsibilities.
-
I've got some experience directing if that'd be useful at all
-
Sure thing. Added you on the drupal site.
-
Hey!! I got my sound fixed!!! YAYZ!!
Okay, so, if y'all still need help, I'm up for it! :D
-
Sounds good, Cody. Are you ready to be assigned some chapters now, or would it be better if I waited to give you stuff until after the move? I'm guessing it will be a week or so before anyone really starts posting.
-
If there's time, it would be great if we wait until post-move.
I don't have a job when I get there (:'(). So, I should have massive amounts of free time. :D
-
Sounds good!
-
If you still need timers I can do that. I'm new here, but I have experience with sound recording, mixing, etc. I used to put together demos for all my old bands. Compared to that I think this should be a breeze.
-
We ABSOLUTELY do. PM me your e-mail address and desired user name andI will set up an account for you. :)
