I'm on winter break, Christmas isn't for another week, and I'm stuck at home without much to do. So I downloaded the 30-day trials for Photoshop and Maya and have been fooling around with them. Photoshop moreso than Maya, since Maya controls really clumsily on Macs.
I decided to try to create as many wallpaper-size pieces of Animorphs fan art as I can before heading back to college. Right now I'm going at a rate of one image per day, and I'll see if I can maintain that for a while. Check back frequently.

Those are awesome! I love them both, especially the one for Marco and his Mom. It feels so dramatic! Great job! ;D

sorry to bug, but you think you could possibly make a widescreen (16:10) version?
appreciated.

Photobucket scales down images over 1 MB, so some of these will be the right dimensions but with lower resolutions. Let me know if you still have size issues.

And today's:
Book 49, The Diversion: Jake morphs before his family (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/JakeMorphs.png?t=1230006307) (wide) (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/JakeMorphs16x10.png?t=1230005927)
The window rolled down. I caught a glimpse
of Jake's mom. Her face, hard and twisted. Her
hand, clenched. A glint of metal.
I spun.
Tssssseeeeeeeeeeeee eeeew!
Dracon fire blasted past. The neighbor's bird-
bath exploded. I reeled. Choked on the stench of
burned feathers. I flapped. The tips of my wings
were singed.
Jake's mom leaned from the car. She turned.
Aimed.
I swept toward the sky. I could see Tom
through the rear window. He reached over the
backseat. Slapped the Dracon beam from his
mother's hand. It bounced across the pavement.
Tssssseeeeeeeeeeeee eeeew!
A black scar ripped across the front of Jake's
house.
It seemed like an omen.
<Prince Jake! We must retreat.> Ax had al-
ready begun to morph. Feathers sprouted from
his blue fur.
One of the SUVs barreled out of a side street.
The Lexus swerved. Jumped the curve. Leveled a
row of mailboxes, then veered back onto the
street. Past Jake's house. Past the drive. Jake's
dad jerked the steering wheel. The car spun.
Gravel sprayed over the neighbor's yard.
<Get out of there, Jake!>
Ax flapped up from the bushes. <Now, Prince
Jake!>
"There's nothing more you can do here," Erek
added.
Jake nodded. The black-and-orange stripes
had already disappeared. The feather pattern of
a peregrine falcon began to etch itself across his
skin.
The car's engine revved. The Lexus lurched
forward.
"Jake, wait!" Erek cried. "I'll project a holo-
gram to hide the morph."
"No. I want them to see this."
In full view of his family, Jake morphed a
peregrine falcon. His body shrank. Arms became
wings. Feet became talons.
<This is for them.> His thought-speak was a
whisper. <For my real family. To give them hope
and, finally, the truth. And for their Yeerk cap-
tors. To give them warning.>
-
woh! this one is cool too!!
-
woh! this one is cool too!!
i agree wholeheartedly... that one rocks!

wow, nice job on the jake one. my favorite so far.

Here's another one:
Book 21, The Threat: Lion Vs. Tiger (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/LionvsTiger.png?t=1230619909) (wide) (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/LionversusTiger-1.png?t=1230620231)
I glided down toward the mall roof, avoiding the area where I'd seen
David land.
I came to rest on the gravelly roof, exhausted from the endless
flapping. I looked carefully, fearfully into the darkness. I strained my
hearing. But no one was near.
I watched to see if David would fly away again. But in my heart I knew
he would not. David had picked this place. David wasn't going to run.
I demorphed and soon stood there, feeling out of place, conspicuous. And
yet I was invisible to anyone on the ground. A raised edge went all
around the mall roof. Behind me and to the right were the walls that
rose up to the third floors of the big department stores. I was two
floors up above the main mall itself.
I began to morph again.
"All right, David," I said to the darkness. "You want this fight? You
can have this fight."
The orange-and-black fur swept across my body.
The long tail extended out behind me.
I fell forward onto footpads the size of frying pans. I tested my claws,
extending them slowly from their sheaths.
I felt the tiger's instincts welling up beneath my own. I had done this
morph many times. I had long since learned to control the tiger's
bloodthirsty instincts.
But I didn't want to control them. Not this time. Not with Tobias lying
dead.
I sniffed the breeze and smelled him. I listened and heard the stealthy
pad of feet on the gravel and tar paper.
I looked, with eyes that were indifferent to darkness.
He was fifty feet away. His mane ruffled in the breeze. His tail
swooshed restlessly back and forth.
<You never answered me, Jake,> he said. <Lion versus tiger. Who do you
think will win?>
<Let's find out,> I said.
-
Very good too! Exactly what I imagined! ^^
-
Whoa, man. You are so awesome! :)
-
AH!! You made a wallpaper for my favourite moment in the David Trilogy! I remembering having a huge grin on my face when I was reading that years ago. Great job! ;D
-
Love the Yeerk homeworld one, and you have Marco's mom exactly how I picture her in my head, although I picture her slightly older (Mimi Rogers/Courtney Cox Arquette age), but other then that, she looks exactly how I picture her. Lion vs Tiger is really good too, although I would have liked it more, had we gottne a side-view of the face-off.
Really good jobs though!
-
very good keep this up
-
I was far from the battle bridge now, beyond the range of their thought-speak. I heard nothing
in my head. And my ears heard only the sound of a gentle, artificial breeze ruffling the leaves
of the trees. I stood on blue-green grass and watched tiny pinpoints of light as the battle was
joined in orbit above the blue planet.
And then ... I felt it. A tremor that rolled through my mind. A wave of coldness ... a
premonition. Like a waking nightmare.
I turned my stalk eyes away from battle, toward the dead moon of the blue planet. And there
I saw it. A black shape against the gray-white light of the moon. A shape like some twisted
battle-ax.
<Blade ship . . .> I whispered. <A Visser's Blade ship!>
Book 8, The Alien: The Visser's Blade Ship (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/VissersBladeShip1024x768.png?t=1231132677) (wide (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/VissersBladeShip.png?t=1231132677))
-
dude, keep it up.
your work is jaw-dropping.
any way you could make a 16:10 version of that last one? ;D
-
The wide one is 1024x640, which is the same proportion as 16x10... just needs a little stretching. Photobucket limits images to 1024x768 or 1MB maximum.
-
Love these wallpapers. I've recently gotten a Macbook and I've been adding wallpapers and I've gotten two of yours in there.
LOVE. Can't wait to see what you can do next.
Do you think you could pull off the scene from #15 : The Escape where Tobias tries to acquire a dolphin morph in the Gardens?
Sample:
Now, I should mention that this was a Saturday. It was early still, so
the place wasn't full, but there were plenty of people around. The
dolphin pool was ringed with people in the bleachers and pressed up
close to the pool.
But no one was watching the sky. Except for one little kid. One little
kid, who pointed upward and in a clear voice that somehow penetrated
above all the background noise said, "Mommy! That bird is going to hurt
the dolphins!"
"Tseeeeeer!" Tobias screamed in his best red-tailed way.
<Um ... is this stupid?> Cassie asked, way too late.
One of the dolphins shot up out of the water, clear up and out. And
Tobias went for him.
"Ooooh!" the crowd gasped.
And Tobias struck. Like he was going after a mouse. Only this was a
really big mouse.
Talons raked forward, wings flared to act as air brakes, Tobias struck.
And then, he stuck.
Talons sank into smooth, rubbery dolphin flesh while the dolphin was
still arcing through the air. It was a weird aerial ballet: the huge
dolphin and the tiny hawk, colliding ten feet
above the water. It would have been beautiful if it hadn't been insane.
"Aaaahhhh!" the crowd murmured.
Down went the dolphin.
<0h, man, I'm stuck!> Tobias cried. <My left talon is ->
And then he stopped thought-speaking because the dolphin had fallen back
into the water. And Tobias had gone with him.
Pah-LOOOSH!
A huge splash. And now the crowd was on its feet.
"Whoa!"
"Is that part of the show?" someone said.
"No way. Look at the dolphin trainers. They're going nuts!"
This was true. The trainers were going ape. They were racing around the
pool trying to get the dolphin's attention, hoping to get it to pull
over and let them grab the lunatic bird.
-
Whoa. Very vampire-esque, I love it!
-

ah, didn't check that first page.
thanks much!

-
jeeze, do you have a dA? i really really would like to see more of your artwork.
I was thinking of the same thing. He definitely should have a DA account.
-
I had forgotten about that part. Tobias gets stuck, and the dolphin doesn't go into the acquiring trance. Very funny.
Maybe you could do a scene from book 8. Either the one where Visser Three gets attacked, or when Ax goes nuts at the movies. Or both.
-
i'd like to see somebody in mid-morph. ;)
-
I know I would definitely be willing to pose for morphs. :D
I had always thought that somebody should try to recreate as many of the character's morphs as they can. Ones that you don't see on the covers.
-
Oh man, the Blade ship wallpaper is NICE. <3
Are you just doing these with stock photos? Well, not the spaceships, obv, but the other stuff.
-
Are you just doing these with stock photos? Well, not the spaceships, obv, but the other stuff.
Yeah. Finding the right photos is usually the most frustrating part of making these. The Photoshop part is more fun.
The ships are done in Maya. I made this Pool Ship animation for my final project for Intro to 3D art:

Maybe... it might be interesting to try making an Andalite from stock images.

Here's Jake's falcon morph (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/FalconMorph.png?t=1231228397) full size.
jeeze, do you have a dA? i really really would like to see more of your artwork.
I think I'll start one once I put together some more of these.
I know I would definitely be willing to pose for morphs.
That's an interesting idea... if we have any Animorphs look-alikes on this board we could try collaborating on some stuff. I can be Jake. Photoshop filters could distort the photos enough so no one's recognizable. I don't have any scenes in mind at the moment, though.
And, today's wallpaper:
Book 53: Engine Trouble (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/EngineTrouble1024x768-1.png?t=1231227588) (wide (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/EngineTrouble.png?t=1231227587))

Well crap. I don't look like ANY of them. Oh well... But I could collect stock images from DA for you to already have access to. I've had the idea on the back burner but don't got the morphing program (or a person willing to take a picture of me) to do it.
I already got a good collection going: http://kheetor84.deviantart.com/favourites/#Stock-Images (http://kheetor84.deviantart.com/favourites/#Stock-Images)
They're mixed in with my other stock images I've collected.

I drawed one... on one of my lessons ^^' somewhere...
About the Engine Trouble... the white things are the Yeerks, aren't they?
It's still horrible when I think about it. All my broth... those Yeerks dying for nothing...
Thanks anyway ^^

Yeah, those are the Yeerks. I was having trouble adding the chapter exert in my last post.
-
Between Maya and Photoshop, this is some great stuff you are generating. I know how much of a nightmare Maya can be, and I can't use it!
Both the Bladeship and the Mothership look good. And I like your layouts on Photoshop.
Keep it up, mate!
-
I finally created a deviantART profile (http://capasin.deviantart.com/gallery/) for myself. You can download the full size versions of these images there.
I still intend to make more of these - more Photoshop wallpapers, more 3D ships in Maya - but my trials for both programs expired a while ago. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to... acquire them (to use an Animorphs term) again. I do have access to them on campus, but that requires leaving my room and homework keeps me busy.
-
Great! I gonna follow you on DeviantArt ^^
-
*frantically subscribes*
-
Very cool! I know painting over stocks is how Mattingly would do the covers for the books, so the style gives it kinda an authentic feel. The Blade Ship looks fantastic, and I love the scene from Threat; it's always been one of my favorite books and you did it a lot of justice. =3
-
Added you on Deviantart as well. :)
-
Book 54, The Beginning: Killing Tom (http://Capasin.deviantart.com/art/Animorphs-Killing-Tom-118259131)
-
(if you haven't already) i recommend you try making a wallpaper of somebody morphing (like the book covers)
-
So, this one isn't Animorphs. But it's from another series that desperately needs some fan art.
Remnants: The Tower of Babel (http://capasin.deviantart.com/art/Remnants-The-Tower-of-Babel-119530304)
-
I love you Hylian!! Thank you for the amazing wallpapers ^^
Hey, may you make one other about Remnants? For example from the first volume, when the Rock come to hit Earth and the Remnants are living in the vessel, with Job and Mo'Steel outside? Or a wallpaper about Everworld? *_*
-
Any fanart for Everworld would be awesome.
-
Yeah ^^ for example Loki's castle and the main characters on the wall (I always think about this picture...), or them walking up the Aztec pyramid, or in the big street of the Olympus place with all the temples around...
-
Thanks.
I could try some of those scenes. There are a several Remnants scenes I've have in mind, and I'm starting to think about what to do with Everworld.
The big problem with making Everworld and Remnants art is that in these books the characters are always human. It is so much easier to work with animal stock images. People rarely look like the characters they need to look like, and worse it's tough finding photos with them in the right poses. So it will be difficult but worth it. Summer's coming up in a few weeks and I should have tons of free time for this.
-
Well if you are comfortable with animals... why do an overdramatic scene with the Animorphs (in their main forms) with the newly created Auxiliary Animorphs?
You know, the six in front all lined up and the others behind them. I mean, we may not have been told all of the morphs in the book but it would look awesome.
-
And I think you never made any with David...
lol we give you a lot of work for your summer :P
-
i'd like to see cassie's barn and the yeerk pool.
(assuming you haven't done them and i missed it :D)
-
Senna sat gazing out at the mist-shrouded lake, hands pressed down on the rock, legs drawn up to her chin, a little girl...
She looked so small. Weak...
I should have wanted to go to her. But I didn't. I should have felt lucky. Lucky to see her alone on a morning when I expected to be alone with myself.
But that's not what I felt.
Dread.
That's what I felt. Dread...
Slowly Senna climbed to her feet. She turned and looked at us. She was maybe a hundred feet away.
I could see the confusion on her face.
Her mouth formed the word "no."
And then the entire universe ripped apart...
The gray, choppy surface of the lake swelled up, rising higher and higher, as if it would crest down on us in a tidal wave. It rose, and as it did, the chop roughened, lengthened, formed itself into a mountain of shaggy gray fur...
Up rose the snout of the wolf's head. Up behind Senna, who still looked at me, right at me.
Up it came and opened wide, with glittering teeth that may have been six feet long.
The wolf's mouth opened wide and lunged.
Search for Senna: To Everworld (http://capasin.deviantart.com/art/To-Everworld-132429702)
So I've kind of been slacking this summer... but I finally kicked myself and made this one!
Here's what I believe is the actual pier where Senna was captured (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/hyliandan/Picture2-1.png), btw. It matches the description in the book, with the power boat ramp and all. It's in Dawes Park in Evanston, IL. I couldn't find any decent pictures of it online, though.
I also uploaded the viewscreen image from the book 54 art without any distortion:
Watching Rachel's Battle (http://capasin.deviantart.com/art/Watching-Rachel-s-Battle-132428768)
-
Both are beautiful. Thanks ^^
What about the characters of Everworld the first time they're in Everworld (I mean, in Loki's castle)?
-
These are awesome, Hylian, very impressive! :D Love the Yeerk homeworld one :P
-
The Yeerk Homeworld=New FanFiction.Net avatar.
That one is just plain awesome!
-
I remember seeing these on deviantart and deeming them the best I'd ever seen, that one depicting Rachel fighting Tom while the others watch sends chills down my spine. So does the one where Jake morphs in front of the family, you've picked two of the best moments in the whole series. Keep up the good work!
-
Tonight, I suddenly felt like making another piece that could be done pretty quickly. Based on a scene that's stayed with me for years. Here's the result:
From Book 54 (http://capasin.deviantart.com/art/Tobias-and-Rachel-176195086)
-
Oh, beautiful! Thank you for this scene.
-
LMAO! That was the most pathetic attempt at spam I've ever seen. And I already got a Lebron Jersey so HA! :P
-
Spam deleted. :) That was a pretty lame attempt.
Awesome picture, Hylian! I love it!
