is there a way for us to know when/why we got applauded/smited? Cuz I got smited three times applauded I don't know how many times, and I don't even know why.

At this time, there's no way to tell who smited/applauded you.

Well, if you want to openly say that "I smited Richard 4 times" (eh Ricardo?) then that's up to you.

It doesn't matter so much to me. Some people just like to be rude for no apparent reason. And some people just don't respect other's opinions. But I'm fine with that. It's their problem, not mine.

Just out of interest, what is the smite feature actually for? What is considered smite worthy behavior on here?

no clue. but i got smote twice because marco is my least favourite animorph.

See, this is what I was getting that though, smiting is not a nice thing to do, surly it's not there just there to be used every time somebody disagrees with you.

I don't know. Maybe they took my suggestion, that it should be more difficult to kill a newbie's karma, and tougher to build the karma of a veteran RAFian, to 'equalize' things, sorta'. Give the newbs a chance, even when they are n00bs.

i think that everyone who smites should have the balls to say they did and why, I also think its kinda dumb to consider smiting someone a punishment for something, some people have really low karma but i dont get any reported posts in my inbox so it seems kinda petty to me

I agree. I doubt anyone would ever make me mad enough to smite them if I had to explain myself.
Not saying that I wouldn't be willing too...just saying I'd be too lazy...

sometimes i think if im speaking my mind truthfully enough and it makes them upset enough to smite me its good. But if they ended up hating me for it i wouldnt like it i guess

I wouldn't, actually. My post count matters a LOT more to me than my karma.

Am I the only one who noticed that the number of smites people receive each day is increasing? It's especially happening to:
1. Members who usually have very good karma.
2. Members who spend a lot of time in the Animorphs forum.
I have an odd obsession with website statistics. I really don't care about being smitten, I'm just curious. I want to investigate. :D *puts on stupid hat and sunglasses*

yes. I lose an average of 1.5 karma points a day now. before it was barely 1 per week.

I agree, i say from -19 or whatever the hell I'm at now. I know I've starting smiting more and more rather than applauding. Why should I?
I can only imagine what my score would be if I was trying to make people angry...actually...

People choose to do whatever they feel to do. I have no idea why I have so much... I rarely post in discussions anyway...

I try to think before I Smite people. I Applaud more because why not? Smting though I feel I should try to do only if the person deserves it. I don't think it should be done simply because I disagree with somebody, as we're all welcome to our own opinions.

i mean if people dont say why they smite you, how are you gonna know. I think we should discuss differences of opinion in a mature style rather then smite someone who thinks diffrently.
I put you back to 0, whatever you did wasn't worth an official complaint so do you deserve -19 karma?

I certainly hope not. I usually try to stay on the topic and away from the person. Unfortunately others don't always do the same.

I never pay attention to my karma, personally, but I doubt it would be fun to have a negative number. Mostly because it would make me wonder "What the heck did I do?!?!".

I try not to. One member just got very angry with me after I told him he should stay on topic and not attack me personally.

Only staff can see that info. We'll be happy to tell you yours if you send a PM to any one of the Sr. Staff.

We (mods) look more closely at persons with very bad Karma.

Yes you can get negative and if it gets too high we will start to wonder why. Interestingly, the two members with the most amount of bad karma are now both banned.

People in the past who have been excessively smited have been banned. You'd have to be pissing off a lot of people to get to that point though.

i've been getting smote (smitted?) like every day now for the past few days.
my karma isn't bad, because i've been applauded at the same time, but it's still been going up and down.
i think if somebody needs to smite you, they should at least tell you WHY so you don't do whatever you did again.
i'd hate to think i was p.o.ing something (maybe by not capitalizing my I's? :D)

I really doubt not capitalizing I's has anything to do with you being smitten, unless the guy has serious issues.

well if you make it to the top 10 (like me) just go to the more stats page (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?action=stats)
if not...well you'd have to keep checking your karma count every now and then and calculate yourself.
I think you can also ask one of the admins to check for you.

Why would you want to?
For exactly that reason, I like to smite people who don't post. Just because sometimes i have nothing to do, especially if they don't post, registered more than two weeks ago, and are still active almost everyday. I hate people who just join to steal the eBooks, and our ideas, and the questions KA & MG have answered.
And anyways, to get a little off topic, I think we should delete all members who haven't posted yet, that registered more than a month ago. They probably just came on to download the ebooks and left. otherwise they would have posted. (duh, lol) Just my suggestion!

So...now we can see who smites us and why....Im not too sure if that's a good idea Rich. That's pretty much asking for drama unless the person doesnt give a reason(which could cause more drama cause you still know who smited you)

I think this is a good feature. For those of us who seem to get smitten for no reason, I think the people who are doing this will be less tempted. And now that we have to give a reason, I think it will be much better for both the person being smitten and the person smiting them. If they have some sort of conflict, they can resolve it privately.
