Animorphs reimagined for television
« on: August 11, 2008, 06:54:39 PM »
Okay here is how I would have done a television version of animorphs without destroying everything that was in the books.
The key here is to change things from the beginning and not try to keep up with K.A.'s crazy mythos but use it as an inspiration. So this is going to get weird but I think you can handle it.

The story is essentially the same basic story with everyone's favorite brain slugs the yeerks as the bad guys. However we do not introduce the andalites or Elfangor into the plot initially. Rather the morphing ability is acquired almost virally by those who encounter its source. I chose this source to be Tobias because he is so pitiful and essential to the plot. The reason we find out later that he has the ability to give the morphing power to others is because he is Elfangor's son. However, we don't know who Elfangor is at this point so there is no point going into all of that.

So we start with poor sad Tobias who due to an X-men like puberty mutant reaction gives off the morphing power to those around him infecting several people. This will include Marco, Rachel, Jake, and Tobias. There is a plot twist. There are other people infected with the ability to morph. Think of them as sleeper agents for the andalite military who at any moment could develope or discover their morphing ability. This opens up for the possibility of David arising later on. Also it lets us bring back Jakes brother Joseph.

So tell me your opinions and add your ideas to this version of animorphs that I think would actually work for television.

....no offense but if tht were the story for the actual TV show, it would've bee ncancelled even quicker. Books turned into shows/movies are supposed to stay as true to the book as possible.

tell that to stargate and buffy, battlestar galactica, batman, hairspray, mame, west side story. They all are based on something that was later changer for the better.

yea but have u seen how pissed off animorphs fans were at the tv show just for making story line changes tht were no where near as dramatic as yours? Plus batman has had too many different stories to count, all comics have

well think of it this way. Its like heroes is X-men but without the costumes. And galatica pissed off the old fans so much they refer to it as Galactica in Name Only or G.I.N.O. So I think the idea would be for it do have a different fanbase but to try to keep the old one. This one wouldn't try to be the series like the old series was. It would be itself when it could. That way you can't screw it up if your inventing it.

if tht's the case then u might as well change the name of the show or characters cause it just doesn't feel like the Animorphs evryone knows and loves

I agree that it wouldn't have worked as a TV show, but if you want to write an AU fic with this plot, I'd read it.

I think you should either completely or mostly stick to the book storyline, or just make some other show regarding shapeshifting and a alien invasion.

Now if I produced an Animorph TV series, there would be some changes. It would still go mostly along with the series, and keeping with the main plot.

But the plot isn't exactly streamlined. There needs to be a definite story arc. That doesn't start to happen until the later books. If it was a mini series that would be interesting. The problem is that there is so much.

Of course you'd have to cut stuff (perhaps even all the chee/pemalite/howler/other alien races beyond the main group).  Everyone would expect that.  It's where you add things that you have to be careful.

Okay for the record Tobias isn't the leader. It could very well be Rachel. Tobias is just the catalyst of it all. I was going to have become a nothlit due to an subconcious drive for the morphing tech to be protected. After he released the power he would then keep it from being gained as a dead man's switch. Oh here is the thing. There would be an introduction arc were it takes several episodes for all of them to come together. So though Marco would be featured in the first episode trying to date Rachel, it would only be a quick scene. Later on a few episodes in does he manifest morphing capabilities. I'm not sure how I would bring them together. I guess it would start off with just Jake, Rachel and Tobias with morphing capabilities. They would then figure out who the most probable people with symptoms would be. How we get Ax in here I don't know. Season 2 would have the arrival of Joseph developing morph capabilities.

uh, my brain is twitching at the whole catalyst thing, and maybe I missed it but, why?
What was wrong with Elfangor and the box as a way to start things off, why change it?
Also, how the hell would they learn about the invasion, and who the hell is Joseph ???
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

Agreed. The original storyline is just fine but Wolfev's idea here shows alot of creativity and would make a great comic book or TV series.

I'm curious. Like what kind of chnages?
This great evil - where's it come from?
How'd it steal into the world?
What seed, what root did it grow from?
Who's doing this?
Who's killing us, robbing us of life and light, mocking us with the sight of what we mighta known?
Does our ruin benefit the earth, aid the grass to grow and the sun to shine?  Is this darkness in you, too?  Have you passed through this night?
