Methinks it's Poe's Law.

Poe's law is an Internet adage which states that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, parodies of extreme views will, to some readers, be indistinguishable from sincere expressions of the parodied views.

Are you referring to the kids in the second link?

They all seemed pretty parodic, but by far the most ridiculous was kid 1 in #2.

That site seems terrible. Like it's where people go to be told that everything that could possibly be enjoyed in life is actually a sin and you must repent for finding something to enjoy on earth.

Oh no, Christianity, Judaism, Islam & Buddhism.  Those majority of the human race, how dare they believe something you and I don't agree with?  Bastards.

I actually agree with Xalder. They're treating fiction like real life. I have a somewhat negative view of conservative Christians* that I know is unjustified. Things like this really aren't helping.

*I'm Catholic, but I am/will be in the Independent Party leaning left.

I'd hazard a guess that these are all jokes. They seem a little too intentionally troll-ish to not be.

Much as I may dislike religion, I have respect for something that's been a huge part of human culture for centuries or more in one form or another. I do not, however, condone using religion as an excuse to tell people how to live their lives, just as I know religious people wouldn't want someone like me telling them that they shouldn't believe in their close-held faith. These sites are basically individuals or groups attempting to use their influence to dissuade others from rational thought processes.

Also, as to whether or not these sites are real, Poe's law goes both ways. It can refer to something extreme seeming like parody, and it can refer to parody being something that was actually extreme. Rational people, for the most part, probably won't take the site seriously in either case. If it's real, it's just some extremist that doesn't deserve attention other than a few chuckles, if it's parody, well, same thing. But for people who are prone to believing that declarations of faith on the internet are sincere (and also match that same faith, or one close enough to it) will, in either case, have the chance of being persuaded that these things are in fact the "will of God." Which I very much doubt would be, because I like to think that if there is some form of deity that for some reason cares about humans in particular, s/he is probably pretty chill.

Lastly, I've seen a few websites on satanism. I didn't particularly study the belief set, but as far as I understand it's a mostly atheistic "religion" that has a desire for the sense of community that you can get from saying you believe in something, and/or the inclusion of meditative practices that substitute for the "prayer" of other types of religions. Basically if you can get past the semi-mocking nature of them calling themselves satanists, they're a decent group of people. Beyond that, I know that most religious people probably won't talk about religion unless it's brought up, so I avoid doing so, but I also have these strong opinions, and am not afraid to let loose if it does. Unless my grandparents are around. I like them and don't want them to hate me for an arbitrary reason so I'll avoid it even if it comes up.

That's...a majority of the whole point of religion.  Even going as far as our secular laws in the west, they're all based off Judeo-Christian philosophy anyway.  What are laws if not "telling people how to live their lives"?

It's like this new Pope, with his "it's not my place to judge" schtick.  Dude, you're the Pope, judging is the entire job description.

And that's why I'm generally against religion rather than "oh sure it's fine." But then that makes me a hypocrite. It's a vicious cycle of intolerance. :3

Well, just blanketing all religious practitioners as "intolerant" is where you're going wrong.  Guidance and regulations go on in all facets of life, it doesn't mean it's intolerant.  "Intolerant"'s a dumb word anyway, people tend to confuse the meaning.

I didn't blanket just "religious practitioners" as intolerant. I was saying everyone is intolerant. Which I suppose you're right in saying is not necessarily intolerant. Everyone has their own worldview towards which they will bias their outlook on the worldview of others. None are necessarily right or wrong, but it leads to people being in opposition towards one another when their views are different. There are certain things for which a person of any given worldview will not change their stance on, no matter how convincing or factual the argument of the opposition.

*Shrugs*  So you're against humans, not religion.  I can sympathize with that.

This is kind of going off-topic. Can you move this to that religion thread?

As much as I like heated debate (that doesn't really matter in the end), please do not start a flamewar in this thread. You guys can go flamewar in the religion thread :P

Isn't discussing whether Animorphs is satanic itself religiony?  After all, isn't Satanism itself a religion?  Aren't charges of satanism usually leveled by devout believers?

I know that I'm half the debate, but I would decline to call it "heated," let alone a "flame war." To me it seems respectful on both sides.

Also this. The thread was on shaky ground to begin with. As to Satanism, I did mention the "atheistic satanists" that I am aware of. And the question of whether or not the sites posted in OP are actual religious people acting like they know what their God thinks or trolls is the main source of debate. Also questioning what it means for people who come across such sites in either case.

True, but this thread is for discussing if Animorphs is satanic, not arguing about religion in general.
