Which would you choose?

In the Sickness, Cassie tells Erik that if she doesn't return, then he should let her die. He shouldn't keep her parents thinking she's still alive by posing as her.

What would you choose? If you went on life risking missions, and had an android frined who could convincingly pose as you, would you tell him to only do it while you're alive? Or would you ask him to let your parents think you were still alive, if you got killed.

One problem that comes to mind, is marriage and having kids. I assume that normally the androids don't marry Humans, because they can't get pregnant or spread their seeds. It actually brings up the question of how well they can convince people they're Human, in modern days.

But that's not the question at hand. Would you let your parents go on believing you're still alive with the help of your android friend? Or would you let them find out that you aren't around anymore?

I would probably let Erik go on posing as me. It would cause less pain, as long as no one figured out the truth.

No, I think both issues (the ax thing and the parent thing) were addressed in the book.

I would tell Erek to not impersonate me beyond my death.  Frankly, it's best to let someone feel the pain and move on.  The lie might eventually be uncovered, and thereby cause awkward looks and even more pain.

I know what it is like losing someone, and frankly, it would be better, I think, to "rip the bandaid off quickly", if you catch my drift.  It isn't right to toy around with that kind of thing.

The conversation you described did happen, but it wasn't in The Sickness.  Not sure which book it was in off the top of my head though.

But I wouldn't want someone posing as me.  It's better to know the truth even if it hurts.

Yea I was pretty sure it didn't happen in The Sickness, since I really couldn't find it.

I think letting a Chee pose as you is kinda mean to your parents, I mean it's better they know the truth.

If I didn't come back I'd let the Chee impersonate me for a while before having a fatal "accident".  That way everyone would think I died in that "accident".

That's a thought right there. Though I'd rather my parents think I lived a long and successful life, having a staged death like a car accident or something would be better than people knowing I died in the Yeerk pool or something.

Yea plus if you have a chee posing as you, its not really you, so your actual memory would kinda fade away and they would remember this robot fake and not the real you

I think I'd wait a little while to stage the death, because if I died right as an andalite bandit died they might put something together. And then once the whole thing is over I'd have someone tell them how I really died

I never thought about the memory part. Posing as me really wouldn't help in the long run. Only for short temr while I'm on a mission, or to stage a death to hide the fact that I was fighting the Yeerk

I'd have the Chee be me until my mom dies, then make a fatal accident (car crash, bike crash, drowning, etc.) in which I die. If I die, my mom will too. I know that. I'm her only child, she wouldn't be able to handle it. My dad might be able to, I dunno.

I would want a chee to take over for a little bit and then want it to fake a fatal accident. My family would probably get over it. Well, maybe not my mom. Everyone else would.

Seems cruel to lie to them, even if you are trying to protect them, letting them live in ignorance of your death just seems wrong

I wouldnt want them to pretend to be me, but only for practical reasons. If a Chee had to play "me" then they wouldnt be able to spy on the Yeerks as much, meaning the animorphs get less help, meaning that they might die, Having them pretend to be me would be "helping a man already dead feel better". It would be impractical to keep a fake me alive.
