Title: Slightly Overdue Introduction
Post by: Alex Oiknine on July 03, 2010, 10:58:15 PM
I've been posting replies and a topic or two the last few days now, so I figured I should introduce myself:

My pseudonym is Alex Oiknine. I've watched Hirac Delest and other Animorphs fan groups for a long time, most notably the LiveJournal Animorphs community. I always had problems with making an account here for some reason, so I may have some abandoned account somewhere that I don't even know about, but probably not because as I recall I never got an email declaring me a user.

I've always read and loved the books - had the entire original series, donated them to a literacy program, collected them all over again. More recently, I actually became motivated to write fan fiction, and the LiveJournal community was always talking about interviews and updates through RAF so I decided to try again. Lo and behold, it finally let me make an account and even be able to use the site! So I've been a little hyperactive and making up for lost time.

Anyway, it's been very nice to see more active Animorphs forums and users. With luck I'll stay quite active with both this and writing fan fiction.

Welcome to RAF! :D Heh, I made my way here from the lj community, too. XD Anyway... I'm Steph. Nice to meet ya. :D

Thanks. And yes, the Animorphs LiveJournal community is a pretty active place. I used to be on LiveJournal all the time, but I've gotten so frustrated with their obnoxious advertisements anymore that I mostly blog on a personal website now. Which is funny, because I have a Permanent Account there and theoretically should never have to see advertisements. But it always manages to catch me logged out once or more a day...

Yeah. -_- I had a sponsored account for the extra icons. But then they got really obnoxious. Now I don't even get what they're doing with it. O.o Why would I want to be able to see recent posts from people I don't know on my first page, but I can't see my comments? WTF?

I know! When they tried to pawn that off as a "feature to make navigation easier" I just laughed. Yeah, sure, easier to see sponsored communities I want nothing to do with. And how do they expect to keep people registering with those stupid video advertisements? Man, I'd get a paid account at FF.net if they could cut out their own ads that get equally obnoxious (such as redirects to other websites). But at least they have an excuse - they probably can't get donations very easily without suffering copyright issues or something, since none of the work they display is by definition original...

If you want a blog you could always let me know XD Maybe eventually I'll get some variety of Animorph-related domain name, even. A sort of internet Noah's Ark for Animorphs fans trying to escape the current stupidity that seems to be becoming LiveJournal management. The only problem is I'm not sure how or whether I could do a community blog where different authors could post... Though I probably could, if I actually bothered trying to look into setting up a community.

Been at LJ since 2003 at some form of blog or another, had a PA since 2004. And man, it is just so disappointing seeing how far it's fallen.

Hey Alex! Glad to meet you -- I'm Marie. Hope you enjoy your stay at RAF!

Join us in RAFchat some time, and if you're up for voicechatting, a reasonable number of RAFians like to hang out on Skype in the evenings. Again, welcome! :)

FF.net at least lets you turn off the ads. Except when the hell did they start making you do it everyday instead of every three days? -_-

I'm bad with blogs.  :-X I get enthusiastic about it for a bit... and then it kinda of peters out. I've got one that was for book reviews. XD I only seem to resurrect it for the really, really bad books now, though.

My friends get so sick of my blogging they tell me to put it under cuts, make multiple blogs, or they're going to unfriend me, darn it.

To the other reply - voicechat sounds fun sometime!

Also, how on Earth do you turn off the FF.net ads??? I've never seen that option! *huff* Though I would at least support their cause if they could ever offer it.

Haha, I had an lj phase like that. :P One of my friends actually did unfriend me. XD Though I thought it was weird, since he was the person who never ever commented/read, and was only on my friend's list because he's a very old friend. XD

:disgrace:

I've been like that since 2002... I'm starting to think it's not a phase ;)

Well, well, well, welcome to RAF! Please, take off your shoes, coat, and please leave your sanity in a small bottle at the door until our seal/horse hybrid creature waddles along to incinerate it. Here in RAF, you will find many fascinating things to do, all of them perfectly safe. Watch out! *Throws Alex to floor as thermonuclear cruise missile shrieks over head to detonate in someplace like Senegal*

Ha ha! That does happen from time to time 'rond here, if you consider 'time to time' as every third second *Another one blazes by to obliderate an all-seeing eye*

Anyway, please enjoy yourself, make sure to avoid getting too close to Estelore on account you'll most likely be burnt to a shadow outline, and make sure not to miss the possible RAFpublic execution of Tyler!

Enjoy yourself, and don't forget to duck! *Ducks*

For some reason, this made me think of Buzz Lightyear in the first movie, except it's cowboy talk instead of space ranger talk.

Howdy thar, partner. Thanks for saving me from the thermonuclear missile - they do tend to get around.

Ah, the Animorph LJ community - I think I joined it but I never really contributed anything or was active there. Might have to rethink that.
Hi.  :)

Definitely a good idea! Though I'll stay involved as long as there are regular posters there. But I agree that LJ has essentially become a plague.

wHELLcome, Alex!
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. Come with me, please, I have something to show you. It's here, after this door *Open a heavy door* We call them the RAFprojects. *Lead Alex to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...

- The Ebooks project: [Help wanted!] Animorphs (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0)), Remnants (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html) <= finished), Everworld (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html) <= almost finished, it's our current priority, we need help to correct the volume #3 and check all the volumes to be sure there is no missing page) and GONE (new project?); the Everworld/Animorphs ebooks need to be cleaned a little (mistakes, missing pages, we don't know where the chapters begin and finish, etc.) so if you wanna be a correcter... call me, I head that projects.

Facing it is...

- RAFipedia: http://rafipedia.wetpaint.com/ (http://rafipedia.wetpaint.com/), an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);

Next it's...

- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0), a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;

and here...

- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html), a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.

You also have...

- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html), we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);

here and facing it is...

- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html), a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;

Next door is for the special project:

- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html): the adventures of the RAFians;

At the end it's for the little projects:

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html);

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html) to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;

- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;

- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html) to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;

- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html) for another kind of video game about Animorphs;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html) where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;

- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735), where we make songs and sing them...

- the One RAFian On Volume project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5317.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5317.0) where everybody take a picture of him/herself with a volume of Animorphs...

and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html)

*Standing in front of Alex* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html) 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller. ... and if you want, you can add your age too: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html)... and say where do you live here: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0) so Marie can add you on the RAFworld Map!
We also opened a http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0) to teach to each others our languages and other stuffs.

I'm tired, I have to go home now, sorry. *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Alex can hear a cry coming from the cave.*
Have fun!
*Dameg disappears into the darkness, Alex is now alone in the hallway*

Hey, Alex ^_^ I'm Aluminator, or Scott. Welcome to RAF, I guess, the most bestest...est.. Animorphs community out there. I think you'll find that the company here makes it a pretty amazing place. I'd suggest just exploring the forums a bit- chances are you'll find a lot more to stay here for than you ever expected. Though, yes, the fanfic aspect of the site is pretty worthwhile in itself ;)

Here's hoping you decide to stick around :D

Ah yes, the fanfic, most magnificent stories we've had in the 9 years Animorphs has been gone...

Ah, I really have to at least complete chapter 10 of my latest one tonight.

And I think the other kit was right - that set of emoticons looks like one is rejecting the other - but I'll take it.

Well, I'm Gaz, nice to meet you.

heh, fanfic. I wrote one myself. Probably not the greatest, but it was something to do. It's in the Animorph section here or you can find it on FF.net. It's a...heh...Animorphs/Beast Wars story. It's called The Animorphs Enter the Beast Wars.

Ha, I'm more of a sort-of-Jew. I have a Jewish dad and a lot of Jewish education (in the process of converting) but I keep moving and it gets in the way of Beit Din and mikveh.
