*EDIT 7/13/2010*
Alright guys, we have our own sub-forum! Welcome to the Group Re-Read section of the Animorphs Board of RAF! We are rotating through the books in chronological order here. Approximately every 1-2 weeks I will post the next book summary and a list of questions that I created while reading. You will then have the opportunity to discuss, answer my questions, pose your own, discuss geeky science tech involved in the book, etc. Currently we are nearing the end of our first rotation and will begin a new one shortly.
Please just remember that normal forum rules apply! Respect one another and, as always, keep it seal-appropriate!
*END EDIT*
So the Animorphs LJ community and the Animorphs Fanfic Lounge are both in the middle of a re-read of the series. It's pretty simple. You read a book a week, someone posts a few guiding discussion questions, then you discuss that particular book in depth. I've been running the one on AFFL and we're up to week 11. Since we have the e-books available and a much larger member base I was wondering if there would be any interest in doing it here. I could moderate it, post the discussion questions, etc. which means all you would have to do would be to read the book and discuss.
If you want to do it the only question I have is what order you would want to read the books. LJ is doing it in order of publication, AFFL is doing it chronologically ignoring the frame stories (so the first book would be the Ellimist Chronicles).
Let me know if you're interested!!
-
I think that's a great idea :) I'd love to reread the books and have discussions on them.
Oh and the order doesn't matter too much, though I'd prefer the publication order.
-
Sounds interesting, and I'd love to participate, but I have a hard enough time trying to find moments to read the books I'm interested now. :(
-
I'd love to, though I don't quite understand the second part about discussing.
-
sounds good to me
-
im intrested :]!
(and this is off topic so plz forgive me the powers that be, but im loving weight of a name jess :])
-
I'd love to, though I don't quite understand the second part about discussing.
Basically what would happen is I would post a bunch of questions I came up with while reading the book. Thn you could either answer those or come up with your own to ask people. It's just a way to get conversation started. :)
Alright, so I'm all for going in the order of publication, if that's okay with everyone? I tend to post discussions on the weekend, so I can post the first one either tomorrow or next Saturday, whatever is best for you.
Also, in order to keep things "neat" and easy to find if you want to go back to a book and discuss some more I'm going to post a new topic for each book. The topic will be clearly labeled "Group Re-read Week One: The Invasion" or something like that. My only worry is that might clutter up the Animorphs Chat section once we get to book 50 or so, lol.
O/T: Thanks Esplin!
-
Maybe Richard can create a new board for this? a possibility.
Truth's Hirac-Delest forum has a publication order for people who don't know (like me). I can go ahead and start reading already...but I never have any questions no matter how many times I re-read it...well you know what they say. the 1305th time is the charm (;D)
-
You know what we could do? Make a dedicated forum, D's forum is still up, we could use that.
http://boredboard.conforums.com/index.cgi (http://boredboard.conforums.com/index.cgi)
-
Yeah it's up, but there's nothing there.
-
Ahh, but I hold the keys and can add whatever is necessary!
-
I'd love it if we did that, but I'd certainly have to be e-book only -- my collection is in storage.
-
Well, this sounds like a fantastic idea!
-
So how soon can we start it? :)
-
Okay, you think we can get the books back into print?
-
Sounds cool.
-
Sounds fun! ^_^.
Are we including the alternamorphs in there as well?
-
Sure, if you want. We can start with #1 and just go in publication order, if that's cool.
Do you want to use that other forum or try and get a board started here for it? It's really up to you guys! As soon as you decide I can post the questions to #1 so you can think about them while you read. :D
The only issue I have with using the other board is that the re-read won't get as much notice by other members. If it has a topic within RAF then people are more likely to see it and join.
-
that's a good point...I honestly don't care. I just want to start this re-read. If we're doing the alternamorphs, I already have a question: Can ANY animorphs fan imagine AX saying "cooler than my tail" ?
-
They don't count. He actually says that? Thats so stupid.
-
lol, that is pretty pathetic.
Alright, well I'll go ahead and post the questions to the first re-read under a new topic. We can always move it to a new board, right? Give me a few minutes to come up with the questions and whatnot (luckily I just recently reread the book, so I'm ahead of y'all :P ).
-

not really. I've already re-read all the books 10 times in the past two months. Yep, I have too much spare time in my hands.
-
:crazy2: :P
::hands morfowt a life:: Be gentle. It is fragile and prone to getting lost or beaten down by that blasted thing called an imagination.
-
sorry. but imagination won the war years ago.
-
Will this forum just keep rotating through the publications a few months later once this round's over? I just found this forum and think this idea is awesome, but the rereads are almost done.
Either way, it's ridiculously fun to read people's takes on these books.
-
yup. this is the first time through, but we'll be starting again after we finish.
-
Yay! Thrilled to hear that.
-
THANKS, TERENIA, for delegating a a board specifically for re-reads!
So much easier to go through them now and not have to sort through all the repetitive, sometimes lazy, threads in the main one.

;)

Now would probably be a good time to talk about the future of the re-reads. I'll post a new topic regarding that along with the next re-read today.
Glad you like the board, guys. Hopefully it makes life easier for everyone who is participating!
-
I have thought about helping you with the rereads, since it's supposed to be a weekly thing. Although I am prone to start things sometimes and lose interest in them later. I could still do some of them, though. If different people do it, then different questions can be thought.
-
That might be an option. Another issue we need to discuss is the format. Should we keep it the same? Recycle old questions? Etc.... I'll make a topic for it now.
-
I apologize for not getting the next two books up. I've been working 60-70 hour weeks and my weekends have been taking up with moving/packing/unpacking/camping/etc. I'm working on it, I promise. Haven't forgotten about you guys.
-
has someone, who is not me, been harassing you about this jess? That's my job! And I haven't been doing it lately... ::)
-
Only my blasted conscience. *glares*
-
conscience? what's that?
If you're talking about that little cricket thing in the suit that keeps yelling at you, try Raid.
Worked on the one following me around
-
Query: The end of the year is around the corner, and no sign of the last 3 books.
Are we still having issues, do we need help with questions and such, or are we trying to 'time it' so we finish the re-reads exactly on the turn of the year?
-
I think this has been the longest delay ever. I think she either forgot, or just got too busy.
-
A combination of factors, actually. One, I did get rather busy. More directly, the e-books got pulled and I wasn't sure if there was a point in continuing, since most people who participated were using the ebooks (also, while I don't use the ebooks for reading purposes they were quite useful for quick referencing).
However, if you're still interested in the last three books I'll gladly post the questions for them!
-
I didn't think about that. It's hard to do rereads if some of us relied on the ebooks.
-
It'd probably be nice just to have the rest of the books up to complete the cycle, but yeah, having the ebooks gone is a bit of a downer for restarting the rereads, I'd say. Interested parties can always hit up the existing reread threads.
-
Yeesh! I didn't think of that.
But what kind of hardcore Animorphs fans don't really own their own hardcopies. And what's more, what kind of fan wouldn't remember the remarkable moments.
Post the last three up, Terenia! It's a matter of principle now, my friend!
Us regular post-ers will back you up!
-
Seriously, do you how hard it's been for me not to do full blown harassment over this? I comment more about following later, but really, let's end this.
But I thought we only had 2 left: we've done 52
http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=6295.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=6295.0) and all the specials.
-
I gave away my books to the local library because I was so upset about the ending. Also I just don't remember some books as well as others because I only read them once. Especially the last arc.
-
*nods* Yeah, a lot of the people on here don't own all, or even any of the books, and are now cursing Scholastic for making us take down all of the ebooks, rather than just the ones they're rereleasing.
In any case, Jessi, I feel there should be enough people around here who do, in fact, own the books that the rereads would be more than doable.
-
Alright, well I'm glad to see that there is still interest! I'm pretty sure there were only two left to post, though, #53 and #54. I'll work on getting them up this weekend. *drops all current reading activities*
-

Heheheh!

Cheers, dude, I stand corrected. Apologies.
Seriously, the e-book take-down was a major blow, yes, but it's a fact, it's done, and it's understandable. I am surprised they didn't take down our re-reads!
But we gotta respect the new readers. And to us, old timers, we know very well there are ways around it.
More specifically, because most of us have already read the series.
I gave away my books to the local library because I was so upset about the ending. Also I just don't remember some books as well as others because I only read them once. Especially the last arc.
Good for you. But comment on what you remember, then. This will actually make it more interesting, because we'll discover what bits stood out the most to a one-time reader of the final book.
I have to say, I didn't go back many times to the last book.
We're almost at the end! It's the end of the year! No better reason to finish!
Let's do it!!!
-
I would actually like to see it to the end.
-
Hey guys, just so you know, I haven't forgotten. I'm out of town and my books are at home. I was going to just post the questions and whatnot, but I really need to re-read at least #53 first. It's just been way too long. I get home on Christmas Eve, so I'll post next weekend sometime with the last two books.
-
can't wait til the next time around :)
-
*looking at watch*
Alright, it's a 3 day weekend-my expectations are high. 53 will be up by Tuesday.
....Right? :(
-
What's going on with the re-reads, organizers???? Did Scholastic tell us to stop our re-reads/discussions for the sake of their re-launch?!?!?!
Should we take it from #1 again?
-
#1? We haven't finished 54 yet!
Which reminds me:
Hey T when are finishing 54? ;)
-
*whistles innocently*
This......weekend? >_>
Is that the right answer?
-
....well... it's a good one :XD:
-
I've lost track of where we are up to.
I thought we hadn't even done the second last one............
-
No, we did #53. I just have the last one left to do.
-
*whistles innocently*
This......weekend? >_>
The weekend you refer to was last weekend.
Terenia.....
Ugh, there is no emoticon for what I'm feeling
-
The floodgates for the last book ranting will soon burst! Something has to give!!!!!
-
I...I....I....
I'm sorry guys. I suck. Working on it RIGHT NOW.
-
Look! I did it! I did it!!!! :D :D :D
-
Sweet! Thanks, Terenia. You rock! :woot2: :woot:
-
I'd love to! :)
-
If it would help I have a reading order list.
-
Last time we went in order of publication:
1-7, MM1, 8-12, TAC, 13-18(I think, maybe 17) MM2, 19-22, HBC, 23-wherever MM3 is, the # after-35, Visser, 36-40/41, MM4, 42-47 (48?) TEC, and then to the end
The we're done with it at the moment, but are likely to start again.
To anyone particularly keen, I'm making a personal request that we wait a while
I mean if you must you must, but I'm looking to .... invest, a bit in more this go round, but I'll need some time to prepare.
But more on that later
-
o.O
I'm intrigued.
But yeah, if we do this over again I'm going to have to ask for help from some of you guys. It's too much to handle on my own, especially since work has gotten ridiculously insane lately. As much as I enjoyed running the re-reads, I know you guys didn't appreciate the sometimes massive breaks between posts.
If any of you have ideas, feel free to post here or PM them to me. :)
-
I volunteer to help. I did the re-reads already over on LJ.
-
want me to archive the old ones in a separate folder?
-
hmm. I'm conflicted.
I personally wouldn't mind too much, though I'd still like to be able to sift through them now and again to see if what's worth bring up again (i.e. I run out of ideas and start stealin' stuff)
I call for second opinion. The people shall decide.
In the mean time:
say goom; have you participated in RAF's Group Re-read 2.0? Threads are now up for books 1 and 2.
And don't forget to vote!
-
no, i mean i'd put them in a child board, out of the way. you could still read through them.
and yeah, i've been waiting for the rereads to start up again. :)
-
personally I'm fine with that. If anyone objects *crickets*
well, your call goom.
And thumbs up for voting
-
I say yes, definitely put them in a child board. Whatever happened to the main Animorphs forum being opt-in and there being a rerelease specific forum? I think we're well past time to be doing that. The least we could do is dump this big bucket of spoilers into a board that's one click farther away.
-
yeah that kind of got forgotten about. i plan to do it someday :P
edit: oh, and if you couldn't tell, i moved the threads. i left them unlocked (for now).
-
What are the chances we'll do something like this again some day. Not necessarily right now.
-
I'm always down to re-read with folks, but I feel like it'd be nice to get a few people to commit. When it drags on forever, or only two or three participate, it gets kinda dull.
-
I can imagine that would be the case. I'd certainly commit to doing one at some point, if enough other people are interested.
-
Do we still have the ebooks to reread?
