Title: Introductions
Post by: megang on December 11, 2008, 10:39:28 AM
Hello! I am new here, and I was thinking how helpful it would be if there was a thread devoted to "introductions"--so I can get to know all you experienced RAF-ers and maybe you could learn a little about me. I'll go first:

My name is Megan G., I am currently 22 years old and I work in my local hospital (nights, mind you) as a Nurse (an RN, a real nurse). I am married and currently expecting my first baby. We live in North Carolina, on the East Coast, USA. I play WOW online (Stonemaul for my allies, Shadow Council for my hordies) and I love RPGs. I am also into astrology, although I won't force it on anyone. I have a myspace page if anyone cares that much, just message me and i'll send you the link.

I used to read Animorphs when I was a kid--I was first drawn to the cover at a Book Fair in my elementary school, and while I never finished the series, I am currently trying to work my way back through them (please don't tell me how it ends!).
I also read part of the Everworld series, as I kind of got bored of the Animorphs (not because there's anything wrong with the series, I just really enjoy trying new things--variety IS the spice of life, you know :P) and I am rereading those as well (again, no spoilers, please!).

So, I hope that some of you (at least) will post some replies so I can get a feel for what you are all like and what kind of community this is.

Thank you for your time!

ooh congrats on the kid!
hopefully you aren't too attached to your sanity or that it isn't a job requirement or a mothering requirement because if you stay...well...it won't be in tact for long!
welcome!

Welcome ^^
About the spoils, be careful... About everybody here already read all the Animorphs, so they spoil everywhere... me too ^^' About Everworld, it's easier: don't go on the Everworld threads! (except "ebooks", we don't spoil on this one...).
Have fun and I won't congrat you for the baby, because everybody already did  >:D

Thanks everyone! And no worries, my sanity was never intact :P

And yes, RN does stand for registered nurse, I just stated that I was a 'real' nurse because i have run across lots of people who work in the nursing profession and call themselves nurses, when their titles are actually "Nursing assistant" or "Patient Care Technician;" maybe it was petty of me, but I was simply differentiating myself from the Not-quite-a-nurse-yet nurses.

So is anyone else gonna tell me a little about themselves, here? hehe.

Thanks for the warm welcome, btw.

I think, if you wanna know more about everybody, you'll have to check all the presentations on RAF, and many messages in "life board", "general v2" or even "the boring board"... Good luck ;)
But Tocade said it, so... I'm one of the most hatred women in Japan... because I'm Scorpion ;) (in Japan, they think Scorpion women are violent and crazy...)
I'll never find any Japanese boyfriend T_T

Welcome to RAF, megang.

I am a Scorpio, and born in the Year of the Rat.  And that's pretty much the extent of my knowledge of the zodiacs and astrology . . . without runnin' to Wikipedia.

Congrats, on your soon-to-be-here firstborn.

Bad news: spoilers abound here.

If you don't want to be spoiled, take a break from RAF and read the books.  I imagine you've found the e-books (http://animorphsforum.com/ebooks/).  If not, there's the link.  The suggested reading order (anyone, feel free to correct me) is the order of publication:

62 A54 The Beginning

Once you read The Beginning, you'll want to talk about it.

The good news: we don't mind spoilers here.  We'll put on some chamomile tea and talk until you feel better.

OK, personal introduction.

*notices everyone has taken cover*

Don't worry, this'll be the short version.

My name is Wildweathel, and I've been a RAFian for about a week.  I'm a musician, actor, mathematician, classical liberal, and orthodox Roman Catholic.  I love my country and my state, but wish the first would stop bullying everyone else and the second would stop playing with socialism.  I live on the Maine cost--one of the most beautiful places on God's great Earth--year-round.  I read xkcd (http://xkcd.org).  I've faced down and vanquished depression.  I'm usually shy, but when I introduced myself to RAF, I couldn't stop until I had gone over 2600 words (forcing Cloakedfigure to make a quick dodge).   Oops ::)   That is all for now.

Oh, and welcome to RAF!  There are two common threads that bind most of us here: Animorphs and insanity.  Hope you like 'em.  ;)

I've missed writing them. ;)  But that's what you get when Verizon decides to go all "big brother" all over you.

You're a wood rat (or "rat of wood"?), Cloak. Like me. But I can't say more ^^'

I knew that -- though only because of Wikipedia.  I don't tend to retain that stuff.  Memory sucks, big time.

Yes, it's a rhetorical question.  Of course, the unstated answer is open to all sorts of wild interpretation.  Like Cloaky's cage match.  Or the Animaniac's "Wheel of Morality (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv6IWX1_XHQ)" gag. (I'll put a transcript in Bored if anyone's interested.  Just PM me.)

"RAFian enemy" is good English, but THIS IS RAF. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZBA0SKmQy8)  Merely good English cannot contain the madness.

so, lets see... RAFrival?... RAFnemesis?... RAFenemy?... maybe,...

I've got it!

Tocade and I share a special bond of RAFemnity RAFenmity.  Now updating signature.  [Oops.]

Anyway, back to topic:

Sorry, Megan.  How goes the read-through?

at least in esperanto there's no doubt how malameco is pronounced.

My "read through" is at a standstill for Animorphs at the moment, I'm rereading the Everworld series. It just caught my interest at the time.

And as for the astrology, if you want me to expound on what I really think of you based on your sign, I'd be more than happy to, but I don't want to offend anyone, so maybe better in a private message or on another thread? And I only really know about Western astrology--I know my year sign is the Tiger, but i'm much more familiar with the western stuff (I'm a scorpio, by the way, if I didn't already mention.....and I can tell you a thing or two about us...) If any of you are really into astrology, I can give you the Myspace link to a guy who does amazing horoscopes.

Thanks for everyone who responded, thanks for giving me an idea as to what sort of crazy craziness goes on 'round here :P

Oh! and I love math, too, I took Advanced Placement Calculus in high school, took the national standardized AP exam for it and scored a 5/5 on the exam, but i have trouble nowadays with algebra since it's been YEARS since i've taken any sort of math course.....it's true, if you don't use it, you lose it.

True for math, I'm experiencing it at the moment  :-[

I think you should create a thread just about astrology.
I don't see why it would offense anyone?

I don't believe in astrology but my mother has some books about it and when I was younger I used to read a bit when I was bored or to read them to my friends to have fun. ^^
