Title: ND's Animorphs Art - UPDATE JULY 13
Post by: NecrosisDemon on February 02, 2012, 05:44:33 PM
2014 UPDATE ON PAGE 3!
---
I spot an art forum so I must put my Animorphs stuff here!

Only Andalites for now, though my head canon view of them is... pretty personalized. I wanted to make my own recognizable take on them. Links to the pics on DA included because they're bigger there and have more details (especially the second one!).

The first Andalite I drew, more or less a doodle to get a feel of them. I added the mane and the elbow fluff for my own enjoyment and I liked how it looked.

Anatomy fascinates me to no end so I had to do this! You may want to read the description on the deviantART page, a lot of thought and research went into this.
Pic on deviantART (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/Andalite-Anatomy-Study-281108660?q=gallery%3Anecrosisdemon%2F32129573&qo=3)

Visser Threeeeeee! *happy face* This is what I meant with my head-canon Andalites. The ear fluff and mane is something they have on the tv show, the elbow fluff is because I like it, but it needed something more to make an adult look different from a teenager like Ax. So I fiddled around with belly fluff after looking at lion pictures. I like fluff!
The most difficult part of this was to make him look evil actually... hard to do with Andalite expressions (or lack thereof).
Pic on deviantART (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/The-Abomination-282408116)

Last one for now: Visser Three and the fawn/kiddy version of my OC-in-the-making: Issdari. Yes I know what you're probably thinking: Esplin must be horribly out of character here! In some way he is and in a bigger way he isn't, and until I actually finish a decent ref of Issdari I'm keeping the explanation for myself, so for now you'll have to do with the vague explanation that comes with the pic on DA.
Also, I can't draw kids. :P

That's it for now. Hope you'll enjoy. ^-^

Those a very excellent -- so says someone who can't draw his way out of a paper bag.

*Wonders if we'd get an Animorphs comic book/graphic novel.*

Hey, you never know . . . they did it for the first Percy Jackson book.

Hmm...the markings on the kid's fur....he wouldn't happen to be half Na'vi. Would he?

Thanks everyone!

Haha, someone said the same thing on deviantART. I didn't really realize they resembled Na'vi markings until it was mentioned, but I agree it looks similar. It must have been an subconscious thing, I do love that movie.

I know who is getting my vote for the next awards.
What awards? :P

Actually, it seems to be the trend on DA that andalite young have stripes/spots of some sort.  I actually really like it.

We have RAFawards every year.  I'm usually nominated but never win.

But I'm not bitter. ;) :P

True. Like me I think most people are inspired to give Andalite babies spots and stripes because they're basing them on real deer fawn.
We have RAFawards every year.  I'm usually nominated but never win.

Ooh! I guess I just missed them. Now I have to draw AM stuff all year long to have a chance no? Challenge accepted!

In other news, Visser Three goes OMNOMNOM. All joking aside, this scene always tore me up when I read it, and it still does.
I just can't imagine the terror Elfangor must have felt at that moment. So far away from home, injured, having just lost all his friends and family and about to die a gruesome death at the hands (teeth?) of the monster he helped create because of mistakes and wrong decisions he had made in the past. And at the same time knowing that he is leaving the fate of Earth in the hands of five human kids against near impossible odds.

And he still fought till the very end. Now that's a hero right there.

R.I.P. Elfangor ;_;
Pic on deviantART (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/Death-of-a-Prince-283092551)

ALSO! I'm open to suggestions/requests. They obviously have to be Animorphs related but if there's something in particular you would like to see, a scene or a character (OCs included) let me know. This is NO guarantee that I will actually draw it though, and they may not all be fully colored (because I honestly hate shading). I pick what sounds like the most fun to me.
Enjoy. ^_^

Yay thanks!

These are insane. Are they hand drawn and then scanned and touched up on a comp; or are they drawn on a comp with a touchpad?
They're 100% digital, drawn with a Wacom tablet, using Painttool SAI to draw and color the whole thing, and Photoshop CS2 for touch ups. ^_^

ANIMORPHS CRACK!

So I had a nightmare last night (not about Visser Three and kittens, no).
I have a very active imagination and as a result of that my dreams are always very realistic and awesome.
Unfortunately that means that my nightmares are also very very frightening. Fortunately I don't get them often.

But I had one last night and when I woke up my reaction was pretty much: "Omg omg omg I must think happy thoughts! Happy thougts happy thoughts happy thoughts ESPLIN WITH KITTENS YES!"

And it worked lol. Funny thing is that before my dream turned into a nightmare (about a haunted mansion and I hate those ;A; ) I was actually dreaming about Visser Three. Don't ask me for details, I don't remember T_T I only know that he was in there.

This looked funnier in my head. Because of the dark shadows around his eyes you can't actually really see how grumpy he looks. This is so OOC I should be shot for it lol. Ah well, no matter.
Besides I needed something cracky after my last pic.

I don't know, I think he kinda looks more frustrated/defeated without the shading. I think the crossed arms is what truly brings out the grump.

. . . Do you do this professionally, ND?  Drawing, I mean.
No, not really. People all around me keep telling me I should, but I know myself... if I turn drawing into a job I'll ruin it for myself. I started drawing when I was 3 and for the first 7 years or so it was all I did every single day, but then things happened and... well, without going into details I've been severely depressed for over 10 years, I've had years of therapy, I've swallowed medication for years. Those ten years put a huge damper on my artistic abilities. I didn't completely stop drawing but it pretty much ruined my motivation and inspiration to do so. Where I used to draw every day and loved everything I made, in those days I really considered myself lucky if I could sketch something once a week that didn't completely suck in my eyes.

I'm 'cured' now, no more therapy and I stopped taking meds a year ago, but these inspiration/motivation issues are things that still bother me. I still can't draw as much as I used to, even though I really want to.

So usually, if I take on commissions and make it into a job, and draw what people pay me to draw instead of what I want to draw, I end up getting fed up with it. It doesn't help that I'm a chronic procastinator (like daVinci!) and in nearly all commission cases I've done, I ended up having to force myself to finish it. But that makes me feel bad, because I give the client a piece of art that they paid for while at the same time I hate how it looks. Sometimes I even had to cancel it and give them their money back.

That's why I always make sure that when I do open requests and commissions, my potential clients KNOW that I always keep the right to say no. I only agree to do it if their idea interests me, so I won't have to force myself to draw something I don't like.

That's why I'll never do this professionally, despite how much I wish I could. But for my own sanity I have to keep it as a hobby and nothing more.

That's why I'm so glad I got back into Animorphs. It gave my motivation to draw again such a major boast! Inspiration is still an issue at times, so that's why I opened requests here. And my mom helps a lot as well, pitching ideas because she knows about my re-found Animorphs love (I've been hoarding her e-reader lol). She's been trying to coax me into turning it into a comic, just for fun, even if it will never see the finish line, because she knows how much I used to love drawing comics before my depression.

SO yeah. I didn't mean to turn my answer into a lengthy rant about my life, but there you go. ^_^;;

Maybe a RAF comic book?

. . .

Just kidding.

Title: Re: ND's Animorphs Art - Update 07/01/12
Post by: Cloak on February 12, 2012, 01:03:42 PM
Eh, basically do what Damien started -- draw pictures of RAFians in their RAF personas -- RAFsonas, if you will.  Or the comic book idea -- which I would do myself if I was such a crappy artist.

All I can do is write (which, thanks to my fellow RAFians in the Intro Randomness and Animorphs: A New Beginning RPs, made me better that I was three years ago).

Or simply a title -- I'm known as the "Weird Al of RAF" (although he's far superior at parodies than I am), Terenia/Teach is the Teacher of RAF (although I know of two more), etc, etc.

Title: Re: ND's Animorphs Art - Update 07/01/12
Post by: Cloak on February 12, 2012, 01:22:10 PM
True -- but you can ignore the lurkers (those are those who sign up but never -- and I do mean never -- post).  That narrows it down a bit.  And if you only do the ones that are regularly active, such as Aquilai, Darth Revan, Horse, and myself (at least for now), that narrows it down further.

Another idea is to do "covers" for the fics, like Horse's "Revenge of the Banned" or my "Memoirs of a RAFian".

But it's your choice, like I said, it could be just in title only.

That would be pretty cool. And with RAF, there's no deadline. The audiobook project has been going on for a very long time, and we've only 10 chapters of one book. So you don't ever have to worry about meeting quotas. We'd be honored just to be so recognized.

But yeah, if ever you're looking for inspiration; we've quite a deep well here for you.

Parker's right.

RAF's a neverending well of inspiration (which is why there are 740+ parodies and countless fics and RPs).  "I came for the Animorphs, I stayed for the endless inspiration".

Your andalite art is just amazing! It looks very professional.

People all around me keep telling me I should, but I know myself... if I turn drawing into a job I'll ruin it for myself.

Sounds very familiar, that. Some people do manage to turn their hobby into a job and still enjoy it as a hobby. I probably couldn't do that and wouldn't try either. Drawing is a great creative outlet, so having that as a hobby is pretty cool.

IT'S BEEN OVER TWO YEARS but I have some new stuff! (finally)

Pretty big style change compared to the old stuff but hey, at least they're now very recognizable as my Andalites. Issdari is my Andalite-sona and I wubs him. Grown up version of the little kiddy fawn I drew with Visser Three in the OP. Yes I'm well aware that Andalites have no concept of clothing and the like but he did not grow up with other Andalites so it's not like he knows better lol.
Also on deviantART here. (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/Issdari-Miskelser-Essez-457715814)

I'm a little meh about this one but hey, Visser Three in my updated style so it should be in here as well.
Also on deviantART here. (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/The-Abomination-take-two-458999431?q=gallery%3ANecrosisDemon&qo=2)

Lol I don't even
DeviantART version (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/Rollin-rollin-rollin-462030100?q=gallery%3ANecrosisDemon&qo=1)

And Issdari met a friend, Wepon's Andalite-sona (on furaffinity). I tried to stick to her design as much as possible while still keeping it in my style, as her Andalites are very different.
Again, deviantART (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/Runsies-462471642)

And that's it for now but there will be more eventually. I still have to draw a Taxxon and a Hork-Bajir sometime soon. Enjoy please~

Post by: DinosaurNothlit on June 22, 2014, 04:04:23 PM
Who is Yenlin? :P

A character of mine.  *draws in deep breath in preparation for probably more exposition than you care to hear*

Yenlin 705 is technically a Yeerk.  Sorta.  He's from after the war, during the time when Yeerks are being *ahem* strongly persuaded to nothlit themselves.  He figures nothing would drive an Andalite more crazy than knowing there's a Yeerk stuck in an Andalite body, so he pays off a few unscrupulous Andalites (those exist; remember Samilin?) for their DNA, so he can make his own little mixed-morph thing.  Just to mess with every Andalite he meets.  Because he's apparently suicidal like that.  :P

Since he's a bit of a mix between guy-Andalite-DNA and girl-Andalite-DNA, he comes off as somewhat androgynous.  Smaller, more whip-like tail than your average male, a more delicate color, just more feminine in general while still being vaguely recognizable as 'male.'  Lol, I like to call him my "gay Andalite" because I know it drives him crazy.

<I am a Yeerk, and therefore cannot be gay.  Yeerks do not have genders!>

Uh-huh.  And the fact that you're dating a dude has nothing to do with anything, I'm sure.

*shrugs*  I don't really want to pressure you to draw him, because frankly everything that comes out of you is awesome and I don't feel strongly enough that Yenlin would necessarily be any more so.  But, hey, if you feel inspired, I wouldn't complain!  ;)
Title: Re: ND's Animorphs Art - UPDATE JUNE 2014!

Welp, I guess I was inspired XD

I hope he somewhat looks like you imagined because I only had your short description to work with. Because he's a mix between male and female DNA I gave his fur a slightly purplish hue (may not look like it but the colors are still way within the blue range), but if it's still too purple for you I can easily change it no problem. Also I didn't know what his eye color is so I went with greenish-blue. Again, it can be changed.

Hope you like ^_^

Post by: DinosaurNothlit on June 23, 2014, 11:38:06 AM
OMG wow!  :D  Even working with the short description, he is perfect.  The only meaningless quip I can even come up with is that I generally pictured him a lighter color in my head (he's not too purple though, that part's right), but I didn't mention that so whatever.

I just gave you three karma and I'm left with the feeling that this is not a high enough number.  :D

Thank you!

Kay, without the markings, choose one you like best.

Option 1 (http://sta.sh/04uwuix4r8h)
Fur is quote-post-color, manes are the original fur color.

Option 2 (http://sta.sh/012m0xanults)
Slightly darker version, same manes.

Option 3 (http://sta.sh/01is02zo7chb)
Quote-post-colored fur, darker hue for the manes. (this one has my pref because of the blending required, but it is up to you XD)

Post by: DinosaurNothlit on June 23, 2014, 12:34:04 PM
Hmm.  Maybe something between options 2 and 3?  The quote-post-color, now that I actually see it on him, is probably too light.  Option 2 is closer, maybe just a touch lighter than that?  But I like the mane-color on 3.

Silly pic done for a friend, who designed herself an Andalite OC based on my design of them, but with massive amounts of fluff and tribal markings. I told her I'd draw him for her so yeah. His official nickname is now Fluff Butt!
On deviantART here (http://necrosisdemon.deviantart.com/art/A-wild-fluff-butt-appeared-video-467768948)

I also have a video of the inking and coloring process because someone once asked me to record it when I had time, and I remembered it in time for once XD My way of working is nothing fancy (I just have a steady hand) but if anyone wants to see it: *clicky* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDNQkfPw6mI)

Great video. Rotating the picture ... never even thought of that when doing the line art. Just watching your video gave me some huge pointers.
