<You seem to not think incredibly highly of our technology. While our own bodies have many things going for it, I must say I wouldn't have been able to rescue an Andalite from Yeerk infestation if not for the morphing ability.> He said. as he was talking, he noticed Norry's opening, and decided to hunker down and rush her as she left her side open. The momentum of his strike had caused him to hunch down a bit, so he was just going with it, and turning it into a charge. Her blade glanced off his horns, and left a scratch down the side of his head. The neck was an obvious target, and he had been expecting her to strike there anyway.

Esarvit picks up his ARC and begins prodding at it, making sure he can manipulate all the buttons with his Hork-Bajir fingers. Of course, mostly he'll be using thoughtspeak to control it, but it's good to be sure.

Satisfied, he demorphs for the time being, tilting back as his front legs regrow and then shifting as his center of gravity bounds outward, relieved to be back on four hooves even for a short while.

Enorryma waited for Claxter to rush toward her, and then she bent all four legs and folded her body as low to the ground as she could while still keeping her feet planted firmly under her, sweeping her tail upward over her back to make a raking swipe toward Claxter's lower abdomen.

It was a very risky maneuver, but one she'd wanted to try before and never really had the chance to test in a controlled environment. One of his blades or talons still managed to catch her shallowly in the meaty part of her flank, well away from anything vital, and the stinging pain helped her focus, made her feel more intensely alive and attentive.

Adrenaline addict? Me? Perish the thought.

<On the contrary, I think our technology is what levels the playing field, but sometimes we are limited just to what our bodies can do. In this combat between two bladed herbivores, the Hork-Bajir has a clear advantage of rapid mobility in three dimensions, not just two, and the ability to strike in more than one way at once.  The Andalite advantage is speed per single strike, and sensory acuity, if technological weapons are excluded.>

Ossanlin watches the sparring in interest.  Neither was holding back, apparently.  He doesn't allow his slight alarm to show when blood is drawn.  Had it not been possible to simply morph the damage away, he would've forbidden it outright.  There wasn't much to worry about, but Ossanlin always feels a repressed pang anytime one of his Warriors takes damage.

He walks around the sparring pair in a wide circle, observing the techniques used by each.  Ossanlin raises an eyebrow as Enorryma drops close to the ground...few Andalites would even consider such a move.  But Claxter seems to be taking things in stride, showing (honestly) more skills than Ossanlin thought him in possession of.  Of course he'd not had much chance to view the Warrior in hand to hand combat before.

He hadn't expected her to duck. Now he was in danger of just going over her, and her tail was coming up to gut him. He couldn't just jump out of the way, since he was leaning forward, and his momentum would send him practically tripping over her. Probably the best thing he could do to stop the attack was to catch the base of her tail. She could still flinch away better if he went for her head, though obviously if he didn't have morphing power, a slit gut would be worse than a hacked tail.

So he tried to hit her near the base of her tail to try to mitigate damage. When he felt her blade touch his abdomen, he knew she wouldn't really gut him, so it was hard to say how much his plan would help if it was a real fight. As for keeping himself from bowling over her, he tried his best to lift his legs over. He was in a bit of an awkward position to try kicking her, but his feet did come over towards her upper half, so if he happened to whack her in the head, it wasn't on purpose.

Claxter's bid for her tail was successful enough to leave a long, stinging laceration where Norry knew a real fight would have de-tailed her.
She leaned her torso so that when his talons passed by, they caught her shoulder instead of her head. As soon as Claxter had flown clear of her, she threw all her legs' considerable muscle and built up potential energy into leaping straight up, putting herself not quite two meters clear of the ground. She came down fast and immediately turned the landing into the first spring of a charge toward Claxter, her injured tail a bit slower but still whipping toward him and cracking loudly in the air at different places near his body, FWAPP FWAPP FWAPP, without actually striking him. She watched for how his morph would respond to the volley of noise coming from different directions.

<Claxter, tell me, since the Hork-Bajir's strongest sense after diurnal distance vision is hearing, do you find this distracting? Is there an instinctive urge to turn away from facing me, to look for the source of the sound? I want to know just how much the unidirectional vision is going to create problems for me.>

Claxter landed gracefully enough, but wasn't able to twist his body much to where he was facing Norry when he landed. He tried backing away as she rushed forward, and the fast moves of her tail blade were hard to keep up with. <That's definitely confusing.> He said as he backed away, raised his arms defensively, and tried to track where her tail was. When his tail made contact with the wall, he was worried he'd be cornered, but decided to use the wall to his advantage by bracing against it and using it to jump above her. He briefly supported his weight on his tail while pushing off the wall with his feet to attack from above. He'd have to try to catch her upper and lower half with his feet, but also try not to bring down his full force. Morphing or not, being body slammed by a several hundred pound force would hurt if he didn't make sure much of his weight landed on the floor.

<Aboreal warriors should attack from above!>

Norry turned the flat of her tail toward his chest and attempted to shove him away so he wouldn't land on her, but there was no way she'd completely avoid his feet and getting her tail grabbed during his landing.

<Andalites have no aerial predators in our evolutionary history; this is definitely an interesting dilemma!>

Ossanlin watches the sparring with a good amount of interest before Leskel sends him a private thought-speech.  <<Prince Ossanlin, could you come here please?>>

Ossanlin takes his eyes off the sparring match and walks up to the flight-deck.  Leskel tracks Ossanlin's approach with a stalk eye.  He nods toward a holo-display that he has enlarged over the console.  Ossanlin sees what Leskel is talking about immediately.  He nods without looking away from the display and directs a private thought to Leskel.  <<What do you think, ToA fifteen standard minutes?>>  He immediately begins to demorph.

<<Fourteen point seven three nine standard minutes at the point of observation, Prince.>>  Leskel averts his eyes while Ossanlin demorphs.

Once back in his original form, Ossanlin scans the common room with three eyes, the fourth watching Leskel.  <<Very well, make the necessary adjustments.>>  He opens his thought to broad-range to encompass the interior of the Mirage.  <Warriors, there has been an unexpected zero space deviation.  Our time of arrival is now approximately thirteen standard minutes.  Please finish your exercises within the next three minutes and make yourselves ready.>

The floor of the Mirage seems to shift as the ship flows along the new curve in z-space before things return to normal.

Enorryma's tail pushed against Claxter as he landed mostly on one leg and his tail, and trying to grasp her body with one foot while one hand went for her tail and a wrist blade went for her neck. An involved finishing move, but one he thought would look impressive if he could nail it.

Then Ossanlin told them to wrap things up. <Yes my Prince.> He said. It was never good news to be told you had less time than you thought beforehand. Would he be able to go over the plan one more time, or would he just have to try to recall everything from memory? He was afraid to ask, for fear of seeming less competent.

Enorryma heard the order from Ossanlin, <Understood, Sir,> and immediately disengaged herself from the grapple with Claxter, offering him her hand.

<Thank you for a most instructive practice session, Claxter. May we someday have the opportunity to try this again, when there is more time.> Offering to spar again carried more weight than it seemed to imply: it meant both that he had impressed her and won her respect, even camaraderie, and that she fully expected both of them to still be alive and fighting-fit after this mission.

Norry brought herself to her feet and commenced morphing the Hork-Bajir again, and this time it was easier, if not more natural. She'd experienced its skill first-hand, from the defending side, and she believed now that she would be able to trust this strange body to keep her and her Prince alive.

<Thank you. I'd be happy to.> He said as he helped her up. It was nice to have made a new friend, though she was his superior, so there would still need to be a level of professional respect. He demorphed to reset his timer, and would wait a couple of minutes to remorph again. He made his way back to the bridge, and glanced over the map as he tried to remember every detail of his role and the other's as well to an extent as that may be helpful too. After that, he remorphed Hork-Bajir again.

Enorryma followed Claxter back to the bridge and reported quickly to Ossanlin, then stood nearby, now much more mentally relaxed and ready for the mission, to await further orders.

Unexpected--figures, Esarvit cuts himself off, concentrating on resuming the Hork-Bajir form. Having just morphed it, it's easier to remember the feel of his blades, and he doesn't stiffen up when his tail changes form.

He grips the ARC tightly as he follows Ossanlin towards the bridge. Unlike some Andalites, he does not have a very good instinctual reckoning for time elapsed, and he'll have to rely on his computer to keep track of their progress.

And his comrades, of course. But then again, it's hard to be sure who's really on his side.

Ossanlin nods and begins his own re-morph into the Hork-Bajir form.  Once finished, Ossanlin walks over to the packs stored in the far corner of the room.  Ehvrin and Aurellia also demorph and remorph, following Ossanlin.

<Alright.>  Ossanlin arms his ARC emitter-array, queuing up its HUD functionality.  Immediately a translucent hologram projects in front of his right eye, showing him an analysis of his surroundings.  He regards his warriors with his main eyes, each overlaid with a slight-green hue in his right eye to indicate "friendlies."  All anyone would be able to see from the other side is a slight, translucent blue glow slightly discoloring the white portion of his right-side eye.  The display also shows each Warrior's unit I.D. followed by their first name, except for Enorryma, whose name Ossanlin had programmed as "Vanarx"...a private demonstration of respect for a fellow Tail Fighter pilot.  Enorryma was still something of a legend amongst young fighter-pilots...she had already been one while he was in the Academy, and he's willing to bet she could still whip him in the ****pit.

He glances down at his wrist-mount, which had only had to expand slightly with the morph due to Ossanlin's well-developed upper body while in his natural form.  He uses his right hand to press a few buttons on the control-panel, causing each of his Warrior's ARCs to request HUD functionality from their users.  Aurellia and Ehvrin activate their HUD functionality at the request.

Ossanlin turns back to the packs and begins to hand them out.  <Claxter, make sure your pack contains the number one floor-breacher assembly.  Ehvrin, you make sure yours contains two compression-packs and the east-well restriction field generator.  Esarvit, make sure your pack contains the number two floor-breacher.  Make sure that you also have the spectral virus and central computer interface unit.  Without those, we'll all be nothlitized, destroyed, or both.>

He continues to hand out packs with instructions.  <Aurellia, make sure your pack contains two compression-packs as well.  And Enorryma, verify that yours carries the final two compression packs and the west-well restriction field generator.>  Ossanlin checks his own pack to verify that it contains the stable Yeerk-cell carrier he'd manufactured.  It could hold up to fifteen cells, Ossanlin silently hopes that each of those slots is necessary.

<Once you verify that you have your appointed pieces of equipment, each of you check your ASAR to make sure that the alternate lens assembly has been properly installed.  Remember, nothing but a single holster containing your standard handheld Dracon, your "cube-computer" pouch, and your medkit on your belts.  Once you've verified these factors, call "operation-ready.">  He nods, running his eyes over each of his Warriors awaiting their declarations of readiness.  He had already checked and rechecked his own ASAR's lens assembly, but he does finger the unfamiliar grip of the Dracon at his waist.  Such nasty devices...crude and uncivilized, but it's the tech that the Rebels use, and so many things hinge upon this deception...as the saying went, 'With deception, the Crayak is in the details.'
