Claxter checked the floor breacher assembly first, which was where it should be. He checked the other stuff, including his ASAR, which was fully functional. He then checked everything once more, just to make absolutely sure. <Operation ready.> He said. Everything he needed was there. The plan was set, and he was as ready as he could possibly be. Part of him was pumped, and part of him was nervous, but he'd try not to overthink things. just focus on his role, and things should go well.

Enorryma checked her gear, starting with the standard non-combat equipment, then moving to her ASAR and examining it carefully as Ossanlin had prescribed. She finally made a survey of her own personal sidearm, guaranteeing to herself that she had done everything necessary to make it appear like an ordinary Dracon weapon, despite its adjusted functionality. She had altered the lens assembly to emit red beams, and she'd modified the grip to look standard-issue while still giving her concealed access to the weapon's settings.

For once, she hoped she would not require her sidearm, since the settings would be somewhat more difficult to manipulate as an Hork-Bajir.

Norry was ready, knowing privately that her medkit contained two of her crush-consume stim tablets along with all its other standard equipment.

<Operation-ready, Sir.>

Esarvit goes through the checking, squinting a little to make sure his is the number two breacher. Although, if Claxter's is correct, mine has to be...right?

He checks again, all is as it should be. The virus, well, he hopes the virus is correct. It's a tiny chip he's saved this copy to, and there's no telling that someone hasn't swapped the files. Of course, nobody else should have been allowed access--but all the same, its power is invisible to the naked eye. It could be anything, just as the female Hork-Bajir body is really Esarvit-Alosian-Ingirat.

<Operation-ready, sir,> he intones.

Ossanlin nods as Ehvrin, Aurellia, and Leskel all announce combat readiness.

Outside the Mirage's viewports, blank whiteness appears to accelerate into the regular white-specked blackness of true space.  Looming in front of the Mirage is the giant greenish-blue striations of the gas giant known as Corvus II.  Outside, as soon as the Mirage is visible in true-space, it ripples to invisibility as the camouflage engages.  The ship flows into a high planetary orbit.

<Sir, we'll be entering the atmosphere of Primus in approximately 35 seconds.>  Leskel, standing at the helm, pilots the approach.  <We should be on the ground in 1.7 minutes.>

Ossanlin glances around at his Warriors again.  <Remember, NO open thought-speech, I cannot stress this enough.  The whole idea is to convince the operators of this facility that they have been raided by Yeerks.  One open thought will ruin the entire disguise.  Private thoughts within battle-group, ARC transmission between alternate groups.  Do not use thought-speech on any of the hosts...they could ruin the disguise almost as effectively as an open thought, even though they don't mean to.  If they need convincing, I'll handle that bridge when we come to it.>

The viewers glow a bit as the Mirage begins sliding into the atmosphere of Primus.  <Remember, the atmosphere isn't easily-breathable.  We'll survive better as Hork-Bajir due to the lower need for breathable atmosphere, but we can't last more than a standard hour exposed to the atmosphere.  Leskel will use the stationary guard's rebreather.  Once we pass through the airlock on the service level, we'll be fine.>

The slight orange glow disappears and the Mirage slides through the black sky of Primus's umbral night.  Nothing is visible on the pitch-black ground until, quite-suddenly, a small, well-lit dome comes into view where before there had appeared to be nothing.  One corner has a second, smaller dome with landing pads, but near the back corner, two landing-pads and a hangar structure stand outside environmental protection, with a small, domed hallway leading toward it from the main dome.

<Sir, I'm tracking the mobile guard just passing, he'll be passing into his return trip in approximately thirty seconds.>  Leskel manipulates the Mirage's controls to hover silently and invisibly, moving toward one of the landing pads and descending softly, making absolutely no noises.  <Activating solar reflex interference.>

Ossanlin nods.  <It's time.  Enorryma, take up position at the bottom of the ramp.  The stationary guard should be standing just outside of the main hangar door, directly in the middle.>  He nods.  <Your shot needs to hit, Vanarx.  If the guard has a chance to give warning, the entire endeavor fails.  I know you won't miss.>

The landing struts touch down on the vacant landing pad silently, the ship still completely concealed.  The displays show the stationary guard exactly where he's supposed to be.  The mobile guard is approaching the front of the hangar on his route.  <The mobile guard will cross in front of the hangar, then start back down the tunnel.  I'll give the signal once it's safe.  Everyone, stay safe.  We'll be fighting our one-time comrades out there, but you need to remember who they work for.  The Electorate is a group of genocidal fools.  They kill those who are attempting to achieve the same ends as we...and their innocent hosts as well.  They strip our defenses and lose valuable ground to the Empire.  Those males and females out there stand in the way.  We're only stunning them...giving them nothing worse than a headache in the long run.  They'll not be extending us the same courtesy, they'll shoot to kill.  Give no quarter, and all of you, above all...return safely.>  Ossanlin takes his own position at the top of the ramp, leaving the way clear for Enorryma to take hers.

Norry advanced to the foot of the ramp and shouldered her ASAR, dialing it into its most precise possible long-distance stun setting. She breathed deeply as she took careful, calculated aim on the stationary guard, filling her lungs with a last breath of pure ship's air.

This was the easy part. The real action came after this.
This was the crucial part, the first of ten thousand possible fatal mistakes which would end the mission.
She.
Must.
Not.
Miss.

Enorryma expelled her breath slowly, evenly, and squeezed the trigger of the ASAR as soon as the mobile guard was out of visual range.

The red beam lanced across the expanse between Norry and the stationary guard.

She watched and waited a tense second for the guard to drop.

No open thought speech. That shouldn't be too hard, since he'd used private thought speech before. Not for a whole mission, but he knew stealth was the hihest priority here. He took some deep breaths of the ship's air. It would be th best air until they got inside.

The tactical officer lined up her shot. She'd stun him, then they'd move in. first step for him was to keep watch while the others did their part. If some Andalite decided to take a walk or something, he'd have to be quick and make sure his shot didn't miss either. She fired her shot, and the mission was underway.

Ossanlin watches the beam of purplish-red energy lance out from Enorryma's weapon.  He watches as it flies true, and watches as the stationary guard crumples to the ground.  <Excellent shot, Norry.>  He nods and leaps down the ramp, ASAR shouldered.  He sends a group private thought to all of his Warriors.  <<Private thought-speech and ARC communication only from here on out.  Make sure your ARC HUD is armed.>>  He begins to jog toward the building several meters away, his ARC HUD giving his right eye perfect night-vision.  <<Some may morph Hork-Bajir...the HUD's have been programmed to show comrades in green.  Once we rescue the hosts, I will program the physical features of any captured Hork-Bajir into each of your ARC's.  In other words, if the Hork-Bajir shows red, shoot.>>

He makes it to the main hangar and examines the crumpled body of the stationary guard.  <<Aurellia, Leskel...quickly.  Ehvrin and Claxter, help Aurellia move him in between those storage crates and the building.  No one will see him there.  Norry, Esarvit, you're both with me...we need to get that hatch open.>>

Aurellia jogs across the small open area, and Leskel gallops.  Immediately upon reaching the unconscious Andalite, Aurellia begins affixing the suppressant collar to his neck, and Leskel begins to acquire him.  Leskel strips the Andalite of his gear and Aurellia finishes affixing the collar as Leskel begins to morph the unconscious guard.

Meanwhile, Ossanlin pushes the manual sliding door open to reveal a hangar in disuse as he waits for Enorryma and Esarvit to join him.  He had already deviated from the plan a bit, but the guard needed to be hidden out of sight.

Claxter bounded down the ramp with his hand on his firearm, and his eyes scanning the area. When he made it to the guard, he helped hide him away, and got back to Ossanlin. So far so good, and not an enemy in sight. He continued surveying the area, regretting not having stalk eyes, until the others got the hatch open and crept inside. He used his hearing to compensate for not being able to see behind him, listening for anything that sounded like hoof steps, or open thought speech.

Enorryma followed Ossanlin, pleased to have her shot land predictably and precisely, but not ****y enough to cheer her own success. It was still too early to make any evaluations on how well the mission would go.

Right now, she was just concerned with not letting Ossanlin out of her sight.

Esarvit checks his ARC, but it's all in working order as usual. He's been playing around with some simulations and seeing how much data he can quickly analyze using the smaller computers, which means that his ARC has been lagging slowly for a while once he'd pushed it to its limits. That was a few standard days ago, however, and it should be back up to full speed now. Should.

He follows Ossanlin, as silently as possible as the languid Hork-Bajir claws tramp forwards.

Leskel dons the guard's gear and takes up his post as Aurellia and Ehvrin help Claxter move the guard's body.

Meanwhile, Ossanlin walks into the dimly-lit hangar.  His HUD shows the location of the hatch with a translucent red dot.  <<It's over here.>>  He proceeds to the back of the hangar to a stack of crates.  He begins to lift and move the crates out of the way.  <<They're being sloppy...these crates make this hatch almost useless.>>  He continues to haul and move crates until the small, meter-diameter hatch is exposed.  <<Make sure you shut that hangar door behind us.>>

He gets onto hands and knees, hooking three fingers behind a release trigger on the right side of the hatch.  He pulls the trigger and there's a slight hiss as the side panel slides open.  He grabs the hatch-release handle inside and pulls it up halfway, twists it a quarter turn, and pulls it the rest of the way.  A loud hiss issues from the hatch assembly as the hatch sinks an inch into the floor and slides sideways, revealing a series of dimly-lit metallic bars leading straight down in a ladder configuration.  <<Norry, you have the honor.>>

Norry quickly but quietly slid the hangar door closed. It was brighter outside the hangar than inside; if somebody approached the door, their shadow would show itself in the fine gap between door and floor. She moved to Ossanlin's side and nodded when he directed her to descend before him.

Her years in the ****pit had more than prepared her to be calm in enclosed and narrow spaces, so she was not claustrophobic when she slung the ASAR strap across her chest and began to descend the hatch ladder. A faint light from above provided enough illumination for her to easily find her way down.

At the last rung, she gripped the ladder one-handed and drew her sidearm. She lowered herself as quietly as she could into the maintenance area, searched the room for signs of movement, then holstered her sidearm upon finding the room vacant.

<<Clear.>> She stepped away from the ladder and waited for Ossanlin to follow.

Claxter stood near Ossanlin, ready for his cue to go down. He hadn't really thought about how small a space he'd be going through until he was looking right at it, and it made him pause. It sure was small. What if he got stuck? Enorryma didn't get stuck, and Claxter's morph was thinner than hers. He should be fine. He could not let this hold him up. He needed to get down there and use the floor breacher like he was supposed to. Maybe he'd just wait until one or two went before him, to make sure no one got stuck.

Ossanlin nods.  <<Coming down.>>  He enters the tight space, small lights placed between the rungs emitting the only visible light save that which emanates dimly from below.  He descends the three levels quickly, ASAR and pack draped across his back.  The pack is small enough not to scrape up against the walls, and hopefully the compression packs in Norry's pack would keep it that way, even after he stocks it with host supplies.

Both of his feet hit the floor and he glances at Norry, and then around the small, metallic room with a single closed doorway leading into the controlled-atmosphere portion of the facility.  Tall enough to stand erect in without scraping head-blades at least, and ten meters to a side.  <<I'm clear of the ladder.>>

Aurellia descends next, hopping nimbly down the rungs before calling herself clear of the ladder.  Ehvrin waits in the hangar behind the other two males.

Claxter watched them go down without trouble, and got up the courage to get down there himself. He made his way down, closing his eyes once or twice so he wouldn't think too much about the tight space. By the time he got to the floor, he was breathing hard, even though he hadn't gotten stuck or anything. He thought about what the next step was, and remembered they would soon be at the point to attach the floor breacher. He checked it again, making sure he'd be able to get it out quickly when it was time.
