The Threat (OOC/interest check)
« on: November 07, 2011, 03:26:02 AM »
This isn't a fanfic! It's a long and boring introduction! tl;dr: David becomes an Animorph after seeing his future as a rat, but secretly turns on them! Please post here if you're interested!

One one side, a team of Andalite bandits. On the other, Visser Three and an army of guards. For the Animorphs, it's just another mission, albeit a serious one. They set out to stop the Yeerks infesting world leaders at a banquet, and now they're trapped. While they always manage to escape the worst, this time there's one crucial detail that could work against them. There are seven of them.  And the last time Visser Three properly encountered them, there were six and a terrified human boy... a boy who holds the key to the identity of the animals before them and a wealth of information that will spell the end of the war should he disclose it.

But just before David is cowed into speaking up, an unexpected being intervenes. In the span of two seconds the Ellimist singles him out, shows him a vision of a malevolent red eye and a future in which David is trapped in morph as a rat, leading a harsh existence. With one final warning telling him that this is the future that awaits him if he betrays the Animorphs, the vision fades. Instead of turning on his team, David suddenly changes his behaviour. Claiming to be another Andalite bandit, he tells the Visser that David ran off with the blue box and vanished before they could get to him, leaving Visser Three to waste resources on trying to catch a non-existent threat and the blue box.
The Animorphs escape after figuring out that Visser's Hork-Bajir are holograms, but not without the rest of the team noticing David's abrupt change. Confused and suspicious, the team probe him but all he says is that the only way to free his parents is to work with them. After a period of probation, the Animorphs accept him as a new team member, even if he's not close to them. And that's where things fall apart.

In the Ellimist's warning, David caught brief glimpses of one against six and of attacks that were foreseen. He avoided the future he saw, and now he is free to create his own. And David's clever. He may not know it this time around, but in the alternate future, he truly threatened the Animorphs. He almost killed Jake, managed to ambush Marco, could have killed Tobias- the list of his achievements was startling. David is clever enough to see that he will never be a true Animorph. Jake never truly believes that he won't turn tail and run. Rachel is entirely indifferent to him, barely acknowledging his existence. He sees that if he does anything to bother her, she won't hesitate to turn violent. Marco gets some kind of sadistic enjoyment from cracking jokes that are way too close to home and pushing his buttons. Ax...well, he's an alien and he's too busy obeying "Prince" Jake. Cassie is always trying to get him to talk about his "feelings", but there's no way he can explain the depth of his problems with the Animorphs. That, and she brings up the sensitive subject of his parents far too often for him to cope with. Tobias...Tobias is the only reason he hasn't snapped yet and gone all out on an attack, other than the Ellimist's warning. The hawk somehow understands David's situation, even though he wouldn't know. And even the way Tobias can empathise despite the fact that he doesn't understand anything sets David's teeth on edge.

David knows the Animorphs won't let him go peacefully. But he has nowhere to return to. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place. Animorphs and Yeerks. So while he lives in Cassie's barn and lives an aimless life while the others are at school, he thinks. Plots in his head. The cube is currently hidden well in Cassie's barn after he re-discovered it in the construction site. If he can borrow it without the others realising, he can create his own army. An army that will be able to stand up against both Animorphs and Yeerks. But it's a heavy task. He needs to find people who will obey him almost always, people who he can make bonds with and get along well with. Not five random kids who all happen to come together and meet him. He needs people who can keep secrets, who aren't afraid to fight more than one side at a time. He also has a battle plan- sabotage the Yeerks when possible. When the Yeerks are weakened enough and the Animorphs are complacent, that's when he'll strike, destroying both sides in one swoop. Then he will have had revenge against the monsters who took his parents and the monsters who left his parents to be taken. He will be free.

This RP begins partway through Book #21, The Threat. David has avoided becoming a rat nothlit due to the Ellimist intervening in a way small enough to escape Crayak's notice. However, the Ellimist did not account for the result, and he cannot interfere again as anything he would have to do to stop David's scheme would be an action large enough for Crayak to see. David will build his own team of carefully chosen recruits to form the antithesis of the Animorphs, gather detailed intelligence on the Animorphs' plans, movements, behaviour and personality so he knows exactly how to take them down later on in the game. Meanwhile, he and his team will work together so that the Yeerks perceive a two-pronged attack against them, taking heat off of the Animorphs. He can't kill the Animorphs if the Yeerks get them first, and he's not willing to put in hard work when the Yeerks can do it for him. And he's not wasting too much time Yeerk-hunting when the Animorphs can do most of it.

This is of course an AU universe, with the storyline changing drastically after the Visser-standoff mentioned in Book 21, so no worries about sticking to any kind of canon. This is initially an interest check/sign-up sheet to see if this RP is viable, and I'll start the RP if it looks like it'll take off. Depending on what the sign ups are like, the method will differ. If we don't have any Yeerk sign ups/more morpher sign ups (which is entirely possible! ;) ), then it's up to each individual morpher to control Yeerk NPCs when they are fighting against them as they wish. If we do get Yeerk sign ups, then whoever signs up as a Yeerk will probably get control of as many Yeerk characters as they want- I can see the Yeerks being less popular. Basically, if you sign up as a morpher, you only get one character. If you're a Yeerk, you can have multiple because I think that's the only way this thing can function well!

Other characters...
What we ideally need for the "Antimorphs" are people with a wide range of skillsets- remember, David is forming this team on purpose with a lot of care and attention, so he's obviously going to pick people who would stand a chance against the Animorphs or have necessary skills to work against the Animorphs.

Personality/Interests:

History:
Role: (Animorph/Antimorph/Yeerk. If you're picking a canon character we already know about, no need to do this- just state which character you want to be!)

Rules:
  • No controlling other player characters
  • No magically knowing what's going on in the world unless you've seen an event or heard about it. Jake isn't going to know what David's up if he recruits someone one weekday to because Jake's at school busy, David's taking care to cover his tracks and there won't be any witnesses (if David is careful about it!) Also, the same applies to people. You aren't going to magically know their name or personality unless they tell you/you observe their behaviour enough to make a judgement. Same goes with weaknesses!
Those are all the rules so far unless there are any more that I should be implementing. If you can think of any, please let me know! And please feel free to comment on the character sheet format! Also, I may possibly take the role of David, but depending on what happens, I may wait until sign-ups seem to be complete and take whatever character is left. Comments welcome! (and just to warn you, apart from the stuff already typed up, I don't have a concrete storyline idea, so it's going to be pretty free/unregimented!)

Rachel rolled her eyes. "Yeah. It's a swell sound. Sometimes I just lie in bed for six or seven hours doing nothing but saying 'million.'"
