I love William's reactions to Al's... bizarre and stubbornly contemporary speech patterns ^_^ It's so subtle, Jessi, and it's cracking me up ^_^ Al, of course, is not getting that bit at all :P

XD Jeffrey will have to act as translator, and he's actually from 2881 so his 21st century English slang could be a little...rusty. (Although he is almost constantly making allusions to 21st century culture, to the incomprehension of....everyone else in Superdome...so probably he'll do fine. ; ) ).  But he does of course know what DNA refers to.

I'm pretty sure Mendel's research has been around for a grand total of 20 years -- tops -- where William came from (when he left his universe it was 1845 or so). So yeah...knowledge of genetics definitely has not become commonplace yet. He's just utterly baffled.

He is, yeah. The usage of the word 'family' here is, to him, about 90% ironic.
