A "complete" fanfic and a fanfic in progress.
« on: June 29, 2010, 04:10:05 AM »
So, my goal was to get one out a month but it looks like I won't make this month - I was trying to find a place to live and ended up getting stuck on a Futurama rampage...

But here's one that is complete other than editing: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5936527/1/The_One

The One is, as the title suggests, a #55 continuation from the end of The Beginning.

And the current main work in progress: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5953956/1/The_Rescue

Someday I'll have a notebook so I can keep this stuff up-to-date easier. In the meantime, I really have enjoyed writing them. Though I have a really hard time getting into Jake narrative.

Hey, I was going to try and write a novel a month too!  Though I skipped a chapter, went on, and got stuck another, and tried to move on, got up to only about 48,000 if that.  Took a break and then life happened.  So far I've been sticking to editing that story and posting and writing the Andalite Drabbles.
Apparently KA had a hard time getting into Jake as well...  Or was it Cassie?  One of them, but she found that she missed that character the most.

Yeah, doing one a month is hard. Or one in any given month. I did the first in seven days, Jake's way harder, I am excited for Marco, blah blah blah. But I have to finish June's story and July's too if I'm going to stay "on track" with the fan fiction hobby. Which, I've finally got some headway into "last month's story" and the next narrator would be Marco, so I think I'll be okay.

I'm also getting little bits and pieces of my original short stories and trying to overall warm up for NaNoWriMo 2010. My average at FF.net is over 66k now - success! Just have to get there with original stories too. But after getting one story finished my self-esteem for getting stories written from beginning to end increased, so overall I've found it to be a good hobby for a variety of reasons.

One thing really hard about FanFiction is that really there's no one there to help you review your work and catch mistakes. On the bright side, you can edit it whenever you want because it's never going to be turned into an actual book :D So it balances out. Even if it's embarrassing.

Did you get any sleep writing a novel in seven days?  How brain wrecked were you?
Oh Gahhh!  Nano!  Such madness!  I got through last year for the first time.  Original as well.  For some reason, as of late, I've had an easier time with fan fiction.  I remember back in the day when 10,000 was a lot and I can complete that in about a week now.
I have the reverse problem.  I get reviews for my stories (at least just enough-- still don't understand how people get a 100 reviews!) on fanfiction, but my originals just kind of sit there untouched.  But the reviews are still great because I can reflect what I've done well (or not) back to my originals.  And I feel like a lot of my favorite authors didn't have betas, save for their wife or husband.  And I do have at least one friend who's blunt, so that's all that matters, lmao.
The hardest thing about writing, to me, is that each story has a personality of it's own and begs to be written differently from the other.  Some I could only write at night, others at the library...

Actually, I managed to get enough sleep. It was weird, but I was like, "Dang, this story has to get out of my system!" and I just wrote and wrote and wrote.

Writing Jake's perspective has been like trying to draw water from stone.

It has been good practice for writing original fics though!

Hah, I finally got The Rescue done. Or at least, the rough draft I meant to get done back in like... June. :-X

Now I have to work on the Rendezvous.
