Rewrite The Beginning

I have been reading the Animorphs recently, and have begun a project I've wanted to do for a while.
As with many of you, I don't appreciate the end of the series. I don't like Rachel's fate, and I really don't like the fate of our other heroes either. Applegate gives us great characters with neat relationships throughout the whole series, only to have them all fall apart at the end. Rachel and Cassie, Marco and Jake, Rachel and Tobias, Cassie and Jake, to name a few.

Thus, my project is to rewrite The Beginning in a way that honors the entire series and doesn't crush the hopes of all of us fans. I don't have to make it a perfect fairy tale ending, but I don't want a Nicholas Sparks tragedy either.

Would anyone care to see the finished product once I finish it?

As much as the ending needs a fix fic, I'm actually not that motivated to read fix fics by other people. More power to you, though. Since the final fight actually started in 53, I'd say start there, though you may not have to.

My main thought on fixing the ending and saving Rachel and Tom is the use of the Pool Ship's tractor beam. Alloran could work the controls. If the Bladeship turns to escape, they just leave the engines wide open to attack, even if the guns aren't at full power.

I would take out the dumping of the Yeerks. Not sure why that happened. I think it was to get V3 to rush to the bridge, though I'm not sure why it would convince him to do it.

There have been several rewrites of the ending of Animorphs, and I think you'll have fun coming up with your own. That being said, I don't think there is anything wrong with the current ending....but I've stated my views on that in the past and won't force you to listen to me lecture.

I may read a rewrite fic, or at the very least the first chapter. Whether I read on or not depends on how good it is. Usually I read Ani fics with OC's rather than the main Ani's, and I prefer fics that take place away from the war on Earth....but we'll see.

Also, this should probably be in the Animorphs Fanfiction thread, so I'm going to go ahead and move it.

I remember starting a fic called Chronicles of an Andalite Spy that had OCs, and wasn't going to involve Earth. Maybe you read that? It got about as far as any story I try to write. [/off topic]

Aaronus, my suggestion would be just to write it and post it and see what kind of response you get. I like to advertise for my fics, personally. I usually make a signature banner or something that links to the story so that it gets more hits.

My idea is to keep as much of the original text as possible, and just edit or add as needed. I have not read anybody else's ideas concerning how to fix the end, and I'm hoping my method, my plan, will be at least interesting.

Someone rewrote 53 and 54 and posted them here. It's the only rewrite of the ending I've made it the whole way through without rolling my eyes and putting it away. It still is not perfect, but it's rather well-written, I think. It does not, however, stick to the original script like you're proposing.

I think there's actually stuff that does this on FF.net. I've been writing Fan Fiction myself lately that tries to continue from where #54 left off. The first "book" I wrote in seven days... I still like my story but I need to go back and edit it a lot...

Now I'm working on a #56, but it's slow going for me, heh. It's been hard for me to get into Jake's narrative. That, and I am moving and had to find a place to live, am transferring, in 19 units... It's hard to find the time right now! But I'm still hoping to get at least a first draft out by the end of June

At this point I am avoiding reading anybody's because I want my ideas to be my own...then see what others have done.

Ive always wanted to rewrite the animorphs. Cut out the buffalo/human, delete the scene where Jake as a human thought speaks to Tobias, add in some better jokes, narrarate some of the scenes from different animorphs point of views . . . .its definately on my list of things to do but for the meantime Ill just read your rendition Aaronus!

Yeah, I pretty much always avoid fanfiction from my own category. I'll read Hork-Bajir fanfiction, fanfiction set in the time of the Original Series, or Marco/Ax slash (Which I love, so very much.). I stay away from post-series continuations just to try to make sure I'm not "stealing" even though technically that's what any fan fiction is - except for the love and devotion of the original fiction. Once I'm over writing fanfics I'll work on reading the ones from my own specialty.

Not sure if or when that will happen, but I think it'll be fun.
