I must be confusing myself. I had a train of thought when I wrote it in my signature, but I may have lost it since then.

I always took your sig to refer to the only three that went on the final mission: Jake, Marco and Tobias. Rachel's gone, Cassie's left behind, and Ax is....something else now-those are the only three I see really doing anything at the end :P
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

I should probably get rid of it if I no longer understand exactly what I meant, but I'm lazy.

Marco's driving style mimics his thought processes - gets you from Point A to point B with a big old mess in the middle.

I've just finished the entire series, well, except the Alternamorphs, and it just occured to me that these stuff isn't quite suitable for kids. I mean, the last book I read was Ellimist Chronicles, and I'm pretty sure it's a bit too complex for an average kid. Who's the target reader for Animorphs actually? Is it really kids? I'd think older teens/young adults would fit better, but then again the main characters are in their early teenage years, so I'm not sure :P

The target age is 9-12. And I don't really agree. :P Kids get it. People who read it when it first came out were that age, mostly, and... well, now we're here, aren't we? Kids that age and a little older are reading it and get it.

Not about getting it or not, but getting bored with it or not. Especially the chronicles books. Unlike the main books, they're pretty boring to me, and they lack the suspense. Except the Andalite chronicles (it's one of my favorite!) Hork bajir chronicles being the most boring in the entire series, I could barely stay awake when I read that one, and it actually took me days to finish because I kept getting bored. But hey, it's Animorphs, I just HAD to read it! ;) But honestly if it weren't Animorphs or if I weren't so obsessed with Animorphs I would've put it down :-\

I was 11 too when I first read the series, and I loved it ;D but if I were to read the chronicles (and perhaps megamorphs) back then, I don't think my 11-year-old self would be interested at all.

But then again maybe that's just me.

::) Umm... I stand by what I already said. Most people who read it when it came out read the chronicles.

At least no one should accuse Applegate of talking down to her readers.

I imagine he touched him really softly, gently, slowly, and left his hand on Marco's shoulder or elbow or wherever he touched longer than normal.

Y'know, like they do in dramatic soap moments.

Dang I love Ax. I hope the reprint survives long enough to put out Ax books, but starting with the first two of the series seems risky to me.

Also, I know second graders who read these books nowadays and get it. The material's kinda stuff we find questionable as adults, but let's face it - the vocabulary's pretty simple and redundant and you can understand what is technically happening in each scene. My cousins have been reading this stuff since third grade, the people at my synagogue have donated books and the common age group for picking them up is second/third grade.

The nice thing about the series is that while you can go pretty deep into it, kids from a lot of ages can at least understand the story. At least, that's my opinion based on the kids I know now reading it. Though I think getting the deeper messages aren't realistic for the younger grades... Even though I know I could and did in elementary school when it was coming out. (4th/5th/6th grade, not 2nd/3rd of course.)

The prologue of the Andalite Chronicles makes me want to cry.

That's normal. That and the ending, even though I knew how it would end.

My friend's reading #5 and yesterday, when she was toward the beginning, and she kept asking me questions about Eva.

Me: Umm... *shifty eyes* What are you doing asking questions? Go back to reading!

She called me after work today, after she'd gotten to the part of Visser One:

Me: So...
Her: Oh my God!
Me: See why I wouldn't talk about it??

Trying not to spoil anything takes so much effort. *sigh*
