It always annoyed me that Ax never got enough focus in the series for the fact that he was supposed to be avenging Elfangor's death. Aside from #8, I don't remember him being actually proactive about it, and I always felt that we got ripped out of a cool final fight scene between Visser Three and Ax (Maybe this happened in the end of the series, but I honestly don't even remember the last couple of book altogether). The whole vengeance thing was an idea I had for a fan fic a while back of Ax basically saying "screw it" to Jake, and going off on his own, rampaging across town, hassling known Yeerk controllers, in order to get close to Visser Three. It's your classic rogue-cop-taking-matters-into-his-own-hands shtick -- but with aliens! I have no idea whether I'll actually have the time to get around to writing it, but whatever.

I drew this while I had some time yesterday, and I spent most of today just fiddling around with it on photoshop. I don't usually colour fan art (especially my own), but I went ahead with this one, cause I think it really needed it ;D

Awesome.  I assume you've seen Princess Bride? :-)

Haha...I just noticed that. That's my favorite line in that movie.

Nooo!! It's the Dread Pirate Roberts!

Oh, yes. By the by, the Midnighters stuff was AMAZING. Very well done, Truth!
I wonder what songs you put on the track (call me presbyopic, but I couldn't read the micro-print).

The universe is, instant by instant, re-created anew. There is, in truth, no Past, only a memory of the Past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. The only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.

LOL, absolutely. Princess Bride is my favourite movie. I'm glad you caught it, because I wasn't gonna mention it until someone did. It's nice to see that people still have good taste in movies. ;)

I said this on my own forum, but I picked that line because I thought that Ax's name could easily sound as foriegn as Inigo Montoya. Plus, it wouldn't be completely out of character for Ax to copy a line from a movie, of all things. Even if it is overly dramatic :P

Thanks! Funny story about the songs, I didn't actually pick them. I went to a couple of Midnighters forums and asked the fans there for their opinions on what type of songs they would like on a soundtrack, which I was still making at that point. I got tons of suggestions. A lot of the lyrics for the songs they gave me didn't even have anything to do with Midnighters, so I made sure to pick out the songs that could somewhat relate to Midnighters. The songs that I picked out of their list were:

01. Positively Dark - "Mermaid"
02. Flyleaf - "I'm so Sick"
03. Mackenzie Phillips - "In the Darkness"
04. Boomkat - "The Wreckoning"
05. Soul Decision - "Gravity"
06. Muse - "Time is Running Out"
07. Garbage - "Why do you love me?"
08. Three Days Grace - "Animal I've Become"
09. Evanescence - "Whisper"
10. Celldweller - "Switchback"
11. Angie Hart - "Blue"

Not exactly the best choices, but hey, I worked with what I had at the time :P

You're welcome. But why 'Mermaid'?

It was actually featured as the music for a fake trailer for Midnighters on Youtube. Everyone on the forums (including me) seemed to agree that it sounded like the Midnighters theme.

Here's the trailer I was talking about:

You are quite right. That DOES sound like a proper Midnighters theme. Dark and mysterious, with an edgy side to it. Thank you!

05. Soul Decision - "Gravity"

Hmm...I'm guessing that one has something to do with Jonathan?

mhmm.

The soundtrack was basically categorized so that it would cover all three books:

Midnighters Theme - "Mermaid"
Performed by Positively Dark

   Beginning of "The Secret Hour"

"I'm so sick"
Performed by Flyleaf

Melissa arriving at school. Introduction of existing Midnighters.

"In the darkness is the light"
Performed by Mackenzie Phillips

Jessica in Blue Time, and being surrounded by Darklings for the first time.

"The Wreckoning"
Performed by Boomkat

Dess' theme in Blue Time, when she rescues Jessica.

"Gravity"
Performed by Soul Decision

Jonathan's feelings towards Jessica after their first night flying.

"Time is Running out"
Performed by Muse

Not exactly sure about this one. I think it was picked because of the last book Blue Noon? I don't really remember.

"Why do you love me?"
Performed by Garbage

   Melissa's frustration towards Rex.

"The Animal I've Become"
Performed by Three Days Grace

Rex in the beginning of "Blue Noon", after being rescued from his kidnappers
and his tranformation as a Halfing

"Whisper"
Performed by Evanscence

Melissa forshadowing the events about to come through her mindcasting

"Switchback"
Performed by Celldweller

The final fight - The Midnighters hold their line against the Darklings as
Rex realizes the mistake he made.

"Blue"
Performed by Angie Hart

Jessica in Blue Time from the Aftermath.

Thought I'd update with a new video. I didn't make it, just saw it posted on youtube. Two of my drawings (the soundtrack and 'vengeance') are in it, including some of the ones from you guys too!
