I know why. It's because of his honesty and his ability to speak his opinion without the worry of what others think. In my opinion, that's a good thing.

I dunno, I'd say Yorick has it the worst right now. He(?) has started 18 topics, and has 19 bad karma, bringing the total back down to 0.

Ouch.

if you're not on the top ten lists, is there any way to check your own karma and see how many times (not who, just how many) people have smitten you and applauded you, other than just the grand total?

There isn't. Staff members can though. So you could ask one of us to have a look.

In the future I may implement a system where if you applaud or smite someone it comes from your count..  That should be fun.

But then again, persons may become afraid to give/take points...

It would come from your own karma count? So then if you applaud someone you'd be giving them one of you karma points?
