Visual References - Animorphs Graphic Novel
« on: February 09, 2009, 01:18:38 AM »
I'd like to start this thread where we can post images of any items, locations, models, etc... we at RAF think could work for an Animorphs Comic. Basically, whatever you guys picture to be visually referencial to the Animorphs, please post here.

Would like to see lots of images and feedback opinions.

It would be interesting to see what you Californian locals out there can contribute to insight!

Here are some pictures of the forestry. Take note of the tall sequoia/redwood trees and ferns:

Here's the land Cassie's farm would be on. Basically, a generic, grassy, sloping plain with the forest behind it:

Oh, and an interesting fact. Westfield shopping centers were started by an Aussie, and they are immensely popular here in California. The architecture of Westfield malls are pretty similar, at least from what I saw in a Melbourne mall and my local mall. So you won't really have to model it differently.

Do you have any specific Californian/American questions?

Those are some cool inside pics. I can picture that shopping center being like the one in Melbourne, for sure. I am going to try and get an air view of a random Westfield (interesting detail there, rossabo) shops over here. If you do manage to find a good one, pls post it here!!

And I can picture that kind of scene as being Cassie's backyard, too. I had an idea of how Cassie's house could look like, but not the whole farm. I am going to go off and draw a scene in which I could use that as reference. Thanks.
Also I haven't had a go at drawing the barn yet, either.

Looking at those photos, you can really see how the Animorphs got away with morphing in the woods at the edge of suburbia and so on. Over here, in Australia, our 'bush' isn't so dense, so I would always find it challenging to imagine, say, Ax living in a scoop for so long without being spotted. The environment was really ideal for the Animorphs. Look how close to the ocean the florest already is!!!

rossabo, I don't have any specific questions at the mo. But I mean, as site information, you guys that actually live there could give a lot of valid insight.

wow! Hunter, about the pictures of the mall in your first post, it's EXACTLY how I pictured the mall in Animorphs when I was reading them! I think it's the mall Katherine was talking about! I even can see Jake and David falling in the 2nd picture!

Kewl material, Hunter! Let's make this the Mall for our comic!
Do you have a visual on the entrance by any chance?! Or I could try making one up!

On topic and out of curiosity: Anyone remember the fleeing-scene at the end of The Diversion, where Tobias and his mum are evading the granny-psycho-Controller in the helicopter???!!!
There is a Mall scene there with description of some Mall...
Anyone think that was THE Mall the Animorphs used to frequent?! It was just a lack of consistency in the Ghostwriter?!
