Importance of each book in the overall storyline
« on: September 17, 2016, 04:55:45 AM »
I was thinking again today about a hypothetical Animorphs TV series for the modern age. Some books are very important and would undeniably have to be turned into episodes. But some books could be skipped, glossed over, or the events thereof mentioned or alluded to in a different episode. So I dedided to look at all 64 books and judge how important they would be to an overall series of theatrical or DTV films and episodes of a TV series.

A 0 means "This book is trash and should be completely forgotten about, it would never need to see an adaptation", and 100 means "This book is absolutely essential to understanding the full story of the Animorphs and the Yeerk-Andalite war at large." Anything inbetween could potentially mean "this book would be cool to see on screen, but it's not that important to understanding the whole story".

So 0-100 is to wide a range for me.  I'll do 0-10, 10 being vital, 0 being discardable (amazed you didn't give anything a zero!), and explain why for some.

-10
-1 some insight into Rachel, but her portrayal changes so much after this it's negilable. The stuff about Chapman's sacrifice for his kid never really is of consequence again
-4 Interesting to see Tobias come to terms with himself (for a while) but not vital
-10
-9 Macro's motives and set up for a lot of his books
-7
-7 Like the Ellimist intro, but really this is because it's the first time they do hard damage
-6 book itself is of little consequence, till it sets up 45
- 0
-8
-0
-0
-8
-0
-8
-0
-0
-4 so much promise. Shame
-9
-8 Great book, but the David-Narrator effects is the least of the trilogy
-10
-10
-2
-0 still love this one, but it is a joke book
-1
-4
-3
-0 and they admit it
-5
-7
-1
-1
-3 only because it has a follow up
-0
-1 ONLY for the last paragraph
-1
-1
-3 again potential, but not achieved
-0
-0 Ax hates cripples, and Marco doesn't. Okay. Doesn't change things much
-0
-0
-3
-0
-10
-8
-1
-6

Interesting numbers.

If anyone else is reading this thread and would like some images of each book, they can be seen in archive here: http://web.archive.org/web/20050523000835/http://www.scholastic.com/animorphs/books/animorphography/

Because there's nothing positive about them
Well, I'm the boss... Head Honcho. El Numero Uno. Mr. Big. The Godfather. Lord of the Rings. The Bourne... Identity. Er... Taxi Driver. Jaws. I forgot the question quite a while back. Who are you, again?
