How would you even get from the ear to the brain anyway?  You'd have to go through a nerve or something.

I'm not sure, but she needed some way for a Yeerk to get into the brain. The ear seems pretty plausable for kids that don't know enough about anatomy.

Unless I'm mistaken, people use to think that's how earwigs use to get to your brain, but not to wrap around it, but to eat it.  Of course, that's been proven false. . . .

I was thinking they sort of merge with the drum and sort of become it, then come out the other side. the merge with the nerve cells to get to the ear...am i making sense?

Well, she could have made them go through the nose, but then you'd have to worry about snot in your brain.
Besides, don't the Yeerks drill through something at some point? *Hasn't studied human anatomy in ages*

I think they mention at one point that they kind of move things around. So maybe they're able to push things to the side, and then move them back afterwards?
