Newbie to the boards, here.
« on: September 20, 2014, 11:43:34 PM »
Well, sort of new? I joined several years ago (for the ebooks I think?) but I never posted or interacted with anyone. I've been a fan of the series for a long time; I read them when they first came out. I've been having a whole lot of nostalgic feelings for all things Animorphs lately so maybe it's time for me to actually post.

@Steph: Back at you! Hugh Laurie is always a welcoming face to see.

@NFS: Would that be this particular Dance of Joy?

Because if so I think I have to give you back that 10k rupees with interest for an awesome reference. (I'm a fan of Buffy rather than Angel but I still appreciate a Joss reference when I see it.) And if I'm wrong then I retract my previous rambling and thank you for the rupees. And look like a rambling dork. (Geoff is still cool though, so that's at least worth some rupees there!) Glücklich zu sehen.

@Saffa: And Doctor Who as well? Jeez everyone seems to share at least one fandom with me aside from Animorphs. Wow. Thanks for the welcome!

AAH!  PICKED UP ON THE ANGEL REFERENCE!!1!!!

Says capital-letters man.  Ah, Joss, ye be crazy.

I don't know which I'd rank higher, Buffy or Angel.  I love me some Firefly, too, but it's hard to rank that as his best show given it only ran for 13 episodes.  I'd say Angel's a little more consistently good, aside from some of season 4, Buffy's kind of all over the place in the middle years, but still great.  S2 and S3, though?  And the final year?  Crazy-nutso-awesome-waffles.

Good to know there is plenty of craziness and nerdage here.

@NFS: I think I'm going to have to go find if there is already an existing Buffy/Angel thread to discuss this because I have a lot of feelings about Buffy. (Giles was very nearly my icon and I still might change it to him.)

I never got very far into Angel; I couldn't get invested in the characters. Which is not to say it is or isn't a good show. I've just never been able to get past about halfway into the first season without giving up.

Buffy though. I can watch that all day long and I will talk your ear off about it if given the chance. Although I do disagree about the middle seasons being iffy; to me the show was pretty consistently great until season six. When there's a good episode in either of the last two seasons it's pretty much great (Once More With Feeling, Conversations With Dead People being two excellent examples) but I just did not agree with some of the characterization decisions made during that time. Anyway, this is getting off topic from being welcomed so I should probably stop.

Ah, well that makes sense with Angel.  That first year was very sort of...unfocused, they've said they were trying to find a tone for it, weren't sure how dark to go, or how much to focus on the detective stuff over the supernatural, all that type of thing.  It picks up a lot once they exorcize the big art-deco hotel in...I think the first episode of S2?  Memory's fizzy.  But yeah, it moves away from the detective-case-of-the-week thing into a bigger epic narrative, lots of Darla and appearances by The Master and stuff, before going all multi-dimensional and totally crazy.  Basically, once Lorne and Fred becomes regulars it's maybe even better than Buffy.

And, hey, I love Buffy, even the middle seasons are a lot of fun.  It just sort of lost its way a little after...maybe, what, S4?  The Glory/Dawn season was awesome, I think the one after that was the Nerd Trio and Spike-romance season, that all gets pretty "blahh".  Tara's awesome though in those seasons.

But yeah, we should search for a dedicated thread or somethin' I guess.

Person Of Interest re-watch.  Still stunning as ever.
