Winter
« on: January 03, 2014, 02:24:24 AM »
A poem dedicated to my old middle school friend Meghan (Spelled like that). I sure do know a lot of Megans. This poem seems to bug Mar a bit, but I honestly do feel like this when a really nice religious person comes along. <3

As the snow drifts down I can feel the winter that it brings
Winter deep down in the nadir of the soul
The place that fears rejection and hates the world
The place that haunts me with winds most cold

The lights of the hearth burn on embers now
My home turns from a palace toward a cage
A cage of the valley in the shadow of Death
It echoes the laughter that isn’t there
The warmth tinged with dread

Yet the morning will still come
Shadows can only reach out from Light
The child cloaked in darkness holds the candle
The candle reaches every edge of Night

I can’t see the future any more than understand the past
But I know when Grace reaches me at last
I cannot abandon the friend who stands with me
But I accept such kindness when the blessed walk beside me.

It made me strangely cold, somehow. But beautifully written as always. :)
