RACHEL
My name is...was Rachel. I died in the final battle against the Yeerks. So I was pretty confused when I opened my eyes again and found myself not on the bloodstained deck of a Yeerk ship but floating in the, well, nothingness where I'd last met the Ellimist.

"Rachel, welcome back." Speaking of Ellimist, I heard his voice.

"What's going on?" I demanded. It felt like no time at all had passed since I closed my eyes and yet it felt like an eternity since I'd accepted my death and ceased to be.

"I will make this more convenient for us both." An old blue man appeared and touched my forehead with his index finger before I could back away. I don't like people touching me. My mind was full of images suddenly and I was overwhelmed. Three years. The Animorphs separated. The majority of them on a suicide mission. And two words that were represented by chilling images. The One. I stood motionless as my brain processed everything. Then:

"You jerk! Just because I died and happened to be a useful body hanging around, doesn't mean that I'm your plaything!" I was full of rage. How dare he expect me to go back down to Earth as his little guide? Back to a planet I yearned for in those last few seconds of life. Back to where those I knew still lived. "Why shouldn't I just tell every last one of these...people you've chosen everything? I don't care if The One eats you or whatever. I'm dead, you're using some kind of sick puppetry to keep me alive, I'm not real! And after you've used me, it's back to the...the void I go!" The Ellimist, to his credit, sat there patiently as I found fault with everything he had told me to do in the messages he had passed on through whatever power he used.

"Rachel, forgive me." He looked pained before continuing, "You understand that a part of this is for your friends? Your Animorphs were resourceful- five youths and a young aristh keeping an entire invasion at bay for years! If you save your friends, they may be able to contribute to the destruction of The One. And...remember, Tobias is among them." My white-hot anger turned cold and lingering.

"You're manipulating me." I spoke, my words laced with deadly fury. "You're no better than Crayak." He rocked back on his heels, pained again. My comment had evidently struck him. He replied and I could sense a kind of earnest tone in his voice.

"Perhaps, but this game is on an even grander scale than before. It is for our existence. It is possible that the winner of this game may gain even more bountiful rewards than the last game." I heard him and somehow, I don't know exactly how, I picked up something else in his voice. Hope.

"You...you're an optimist, aren't you? You really want to do good." I spoke, full of disbelief. Rusty memories of his life story came back to me. He'd told me his entire history as I hovered, not alive but not quite dead yet. He nodded, a thin smile on his face. Then something unexpected hit me. "Why me? Why not pick some other creature you can bring back?" Flashbacks to my last days on Earth struck me heavily. "In the end I'm a warrior. I killed my own cousin on his brother's orders." The wizened blue man shook his head.

"Bloodthirsty you may be, but you are also brave. You were quite a hero after the war. You are an icon of sacrifice and dedication, considering you knowingly gave up your life to secure victory in the very last battle of the war." I raised an eyebrow. "I think you might be able to inspire the people I will be sending you down to visit." I stood there silently, staring pointedly at the floor. After a very long silence, I sighed.

"Alright, alright, you win. I'll do everything. I won't give you away." Then I wondered how I would be doing all of this. "So, how exactly do I do this? Go down to Earth, give people advice, help them out when they're stuck? I mean sure, I can do the whole cryptic-Yoda advice thing, but if, say, they're captured and locked in a room, what do I do then?" The Ellimist gave me a look that the instincts stirring deep within me liked a lot, even as I didn't like the enigmatic expression on his face. I frowned and stepped forward-

This was not the nothingless. I looked up. Blue cloudy sky. I looked down. The sidewalk. A car roared past me and I jumped about a foot in the air, freaking out for a moment and stepping back from the edge of the sidewalk. Being dead, I'd forgotten just how everything was in life.

/Rachel, do you remember who it is you are looking for?/ The Ellimist spoke inside my head, kind of like thought-speak and I remembered images of particular humans. I nodded suspiciously. /Good. I will be giving you instructions on how to find them right- now./ I reeled as another information overload hit me. So the Ellimist was watching if he could see me nod. I focused on the strange map-homing-satellite-tracking sense that he'd just given me and followed whatever it was that drew me towards the first of Team Ellimist.

DAVID
I screamed. There I was, claws scrabbling as I tried to get out of here, tried to tear apart this illusion. My tail trailed behind me.

CALM DOWN, BOY. I looked up with blurry eyesight to see a giant red eye staring down at me. YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN. Before I could panic any more, my head was full of information. I froze, primitive mouse brain unable to cope. COME ON, I HAVEN'T GOT ALL DAY. The red eye was not patient and I struggled to reclaim my ability to think and move.

<Why...why me? How?> My last memory was of a blonde girl hovering above me as everything grew dark. I was...dead, wasn't I? This was a sucky afterlife if so.

BECAUSE YOU'RE A FAMILIAR PIECE. I KNOW HOW TO USE YOU. I didn't argue. I knew that the being above me was in control. I knew how it went. Once someone's in control, there's nothing you can do. You just have to obey. I shuddered as I remembered being in someone's control before...being trapped in a pipe as time ran out...

I blinked and I had arms and legs again. I flexed my fingers, scarcely believing it. I looked up at the red eye and he met my gaze of wonder.

SO, YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MUST DO? I received another image, one that informed me that due to my role, being a mouse would be no good. This being was infinitely powerful if it could reverse the irreversible at will, if it could make me back into a human. If it could do so and win this...this game I was apparently involved in, then maybe this would be permanent. Though after the life I'd had, returning to the peace of death didn't quite seem as bad as it had before everything... YES, PERFORM WELL AND YOU MAY RECEIVE LIFE. I shuddered again, this time with anticipation. Fuzzy memories became clearer- getting a free stay in a hotel as an eagle, breaking a shop window...I had so much potential if I could please this being. I nodded to the Crayak and-

I was standing in the middle of the road. I froze again in terror as a car drove straight through me. I exhaled as another few vehicles did the same and then stepped aside slowly, mounting the sidewalk and realising that I didn't know a whole lot about what I could or couldn't do. If I was supposed to be the Crayak's pawn, then I'd need more abilities than just being present here and being able to talk to people. I felt inner satisfaction realising that I was now closer to something like Crayak's servant Drode...maybe I possessed more power than the average human or even morpher. My face felt almost painfully strained and I reached up and touched my mouth to realise I was smiling. This was an unfamiliar and alien muscle movement to me after my being trapped in morph and death. I let it drop and felt better already.

\GO. FIND THEM.\ I nodded straight away as I felt something drawing me in a certain direction...

TAK KERIK
Tak Kerik sat on a particularly large branch, looking down through the foliage of this grand tree at far-off Hork-Bajir. He could no longer listen to Toby Hamee the Seer telling him that he was sick. He could climb and run and he still ate a large amount of bark. He was not sick. He just did not want to spend lots of time with the others. They were never sad. They didn't understand why he was sad. Toby said he slept too much. But he knew some Hork-Bajir that liked to wake up at night and sleep in the day. She said sleeping too much was a sign of this sickness. But Toby Hamee the Seer spent a lot of time with humans. They probably made her strange. They filled her brain with these strange ideas about false sicknesses. He didn't like the way humans with their strange scent came into their home to look at them. Toby Hamee the Seer said that it was fair because humans gave the Hork-Bajir this home. Tak didn't understand himself, but he felt deep down in his tired bones that this wasn't home. Not really. But he was dimly aware that nowhere could be home. He felt that wherever he went, it would not be home without his kalashi. And now he would have no kawatnoj. He reached up and touched the broken spike on his head without thinking.

BARAKAN-ESFORTHEL-GARID
Barakan-Esforthel-Garid, or "Barry" when he was human, walked down the street casually. It was a nice day and there was nothing in particular on his mind. Various thoughts about human television that he'd watched the previous day filtered through his mind. It seemed that since the so-called "Animorphs" had stolen that ship and embarrassed the Andalites, things seemed to be changing. Morphing cubes were made much harder to give away to humans and even the human amusement parks full of Earth creatures were changing, the security growing tighter there so that any unauthorised morphers wouldn't be able to get in there and effectively steal DNA. This did not bother Barakan- he only needed his human form to get out and about...and the Earth pigeon bird form for when he needed to get across town quickly or even when he felt listless enough to be entertained by a flight through the warm air patches that sent him soaring upwards. He had almost forgotten about his long-ago-acquired kafit bird morph, something that would single him out as an Andalite immediately and get him caught and sent back to his former homeworld. He imagined that the penalty for masquerading as a human was probably high, not to mention the 'upgrades' he'd given his household technology to make life comfortable for him. He inhaled the warm, pleasant air as he wondered what he would eat for lunch today.

A deer stands, the image of beauty, drinking from a stream, surrounded by majestic nature. The smell of wildflowers is in the air. Birds sing and chirp. The peace is broken when the animal slumps to the ground, dead, with a handcrafted arrow through its eye.

Its shooter emerges from a large sapling, smiling at the clean kill. He knows a dear like this could warrant a small feast in his honor. Cory Miles stands at a near towering 6' 3. Everything about him suggests that he is dangerous. A sharp grace in every move. The formerly white cloak and hood that are now stained by his days in the woods that seems to camoflage him if he stands still. The nine inch bowie knife in his left hand that he keeps poised while examining the buck for vital signs.

Apparently satisfied with the kill, he lifted the animal onto his shoulders and carries it to a makeshift campsight that he appeared to have ready for after the kill. A rabbit roasts over a spit and he sits on a hickory stump while whittling at a block of wood.

I paused as I felt the odd tugging at my being grow stronger- suddenly my surroundings blurred and changed into that of beautiful woodland scenery. I looked around and shrugged. If this is where I was sent, this is where I would go. I moved to take a step and stumbled as Crayak dumped more information in my head. I was looking for a...very dangerous man, according to the jumbled images in my head. From the flashes of moments in the man's life I saw, I could make out various weapons that he held at different times. I shivered, hoping I was just an intangible ghost-thing. I wondered whether I could morph and considered turning into a lion before realising that it might well be an invitation to kill me. So I followed the sensation that brought me here, raising my palms pre-emptively as a gesture of surrender. Before long, a camp of some kind appeared and I strode towards it slowly, calling carefully,

"Is anyone there? Hello? I come unarmed!" Cowardly it might sound, but I'd always intended to look out for myself first. You can't do anything if you get killed. I waited to see whether this man would emerge. And how he would react...

I smiled as a teenage boy walked into my camp. Skinny, with no from of protection. Could be a runaway if he wasn't so clean. I rose to my feet.

"Hmm, You're not very clever. Wandering into private property, filled with wild animals, poisonous plants, and" Fwang! Thwock! The knife in my hand was now imbedded in a tree, inches away from his ear. "my people." I finished. I kept my eyes locked on his as I drew the handgun from a holsteralong my hip. Leveling the pistol between his eyes I said. "Give me one reason not to blow your brains out."

I felt a sinking feeling as I saw the man I was looking for. The words he spoke were making me want to turn and run away screaming. There's a different between cowardice and wanting to save your life. Anyone who ignored their self-preservation instincts when facing this man was just nuts. I tensed up as I heard the sound of some kind of impact and my eyes widened. I looked to my left without turning my head and saw a knife quivering, stuck in a tree trunk too close to my head. I raised a shaking hand and touched my ear.

"Oh my God-!" I whimpered. Suddenly a blazing red eye appeared in my mind and I felt like I'd been shocked. "Agh! OK, OK, don't shoot!" I realised he'd pulled a gun. "First things first, do you know anything about the Yeerk war of three years ago and the Animorphs?" I wasn't wasting my words. I needed to convince him I wasn't just some dumb kid who had trespassed into a place where death was apparently an appropriate punishment for that.

"Just because I shoot things to eat doesn't mean I don't have internet connection, or a mail service." I replied dryly. "Of course I know about it. If your some conspiracy theorist trying to tell me that it was all staged bythe freemasons or something, I would be doing everyone a favor shooting you."

My name is Daniel Andrada.Im a member of the european federation enforcer corps, and today, after 5 years of service, I can go home. If I had a home at least. My family is dead, I killed them. They were taken by the yeerks, turned into the enemy, now they are just another yeerk casuality during the battle of Paris.Thats why I hate the yeerks, more than you can imagine. I was sitting in my bunker inside the platoons quarters, dressed in blue ang gray camo outfit standard for every enforcer. Just packing my stuff and getting ready to go.The only thing left was my trusty E3000 rifle, cleaning the last part of it (a clean weapon is less likely to fail when you need it) , thankfuly  we could keep our weapons after service, ten clips were already in my backpack along with a 9mm.

He was BORED.

Fisher lay on his couch, staring at the ceiling fan as it spun around in slow, lazy circles. One, two, three, four...

...Seventy nine, eighty, eighty one, eighty two. He sighed in exasperation. Two stinking weeks and those suits still hadn't answered his application. The least the OAA could do was at least pretend they were interested in him being interested in them. But here he was, staring at the stupid ceiling fan in his apartment, wondering if he could summon the strength to make his way to the kitchen for the Bacardi, then to the top of the TV for the remote.

He looked at the long three yards to the kitchen, grimaced, and stayed where he was. Fight that battle another day, back to t the issue at hand. His eyes slowly rolled back upwards. Eighty three, eighty four, eighty five, eighty six... Fisher had to do something before he went crazy.

"Okay, you have a wonderful day, sir." I said with a smile. The man before me took his coffee from the counter and nodded, walking away. I watched him go through my shared eyes. The people who came to this cafe were so pleasant. I felt so... human here. It was nice.

My name is Karakae 579. No, I'm not human. But I do share a body with one. My host body is a girl by the name of Claire Malcolm. She's a autistic young human that I have come to care for considerably over the years. We watch out for one another, almost as if we were a weird form of sisters. Some people might say that taking the freedom of a girl who can barely stand up for herself is wrong, but they don't know us. We love each other, and in a way, I think she's actually much happier with me. In taking her original freedom, I have given her a completely new kind.

Anyway, all that is unimportant. In today's world, no one knows what Claire and I are. We prefer it that way; it lets us live with the rest of the world in peace. We work. We play. We exist just as any other human would. So why does it matter that I'm a Yeerk? I figure what everyone else doesn't know, can't hurt them.

It was probably a good sign that he didn't shoot me. But I was insulted at the implication that I was a conspiracy theorist. I drew myself up haughtily and replied,

"If you want a conspiracy, you should be asking the Animorphs themselves, though I also know all about the seventh Animorph." Then I remembered my mission and that I was not to say a word about the Crayak. "Anyway, I'm here because you have been chosen. If you know about everything already, you should know that three years ago, all remaining Animorphs except one stole a Yeerk ship and escaped to space. They were caught by a creature known only as 'The One'. What has that got to do with you?" I wondered how to explain this. I wasn't supposed to talk about Crayak, but I wasn't sure whether I could pull off a lie and say that I was the all-powerful one here. "You have been chosen to combat and destroy 'The One'." Before he could complain that it was nothing to do with him, I added, "If this creature finds Earth, we're done for. It has been decided that you have a lot of skills that would be useful in combating this creature. Oh, and there are others like you that have been chosen so you'll have a team to work with." I fell silent and hoped he wouldn't shoot me.

RACHEL
I suddenly got confused as I kind of sensed three presences I needed to go and talk to. If time was of the essence, how would I talk to them all at once?

/Be creative!/ I heard the Ellimist and I frowned.

"I'm not morphing starfish and chopping myself up into three this time." I didn't even know if I could morph. He laughed and prompted me,

/You should find certain...limits of physical existence removed. Why not experiment?/ I could have made a rude gesture at the sky in response to how unhelpful he was being, but the thought of being able to do things that normal, living people can't do excited me. Was I like a ghost? Ghosts could appear to people... I shut my eyes and concentrated... I heard a strange sound and opened my eyes to see two identical Rachels standing on my left and right. My mouth dropped open.

"Please, that expression does not suit you." The one on my right remarked with disdain. I realised they had my personality and quickly snapped to attention.

"Go find the others Ellimist wants to recruit." I told them and they vanished. I headed for the remaining person, suddenly finding myself standing next to them.

RACHEL #2 - WITH DANIEL ANDRADA
I realised that I wasn't a clone. Somehow I was still myself, or at least a part of myself. I looked around and noticed that I was in a military kind of building. I was passingly familiar with them after the war and I noticed the man sitting there in a camo outfit. How would I go about this? I'm a direct kind of person.

"Hey." I simply said, hoping I wasn't invisible or something weird. "You know the Animorphs? How they stole a ship and went to find their friend?" It still bothered me deep down that they'd been so stupid to just go on a suicide mission like that. But I understood that they wanted to save Ax and they weren't dead yet, so the Ellimist claimed, so I would forgive them eventually. "Oh, try not to freak out, I don't know if anyone else can see me." I added as an afterthought. I wondered whether I'd get recognised.

RACHEL #3- WITH CLAIRE MALCOLM AND KARAKAE 579
I was in a coffee shop. I could deal with this. Looking around, I wondered what kind of warrior would be sitting casually in a coffee shop. My instincts were telling me that surprisingly, it was a barista I neede to talk to. I made sure I was wearing normal clothing, not my morphing outfit. I then realised that I could hardly interrupt her work or I'd be holding up the queue. So I walked up to her and calmly asked her,

"What different types of coffee do you serve?" I knew it might be a dumb question, but it would give me time to explain everything. Instead of speaking and sounding like a lunatic in front of the normal people in the coffee shop, I tried an Ellimist trick- I concentrated hard and tried to send her mind images.

The Animorphs stealing a ship and flying into space.
An unknown creature called 'The One' that will take and absorb every human and destroy Earth's population.
You have been chosen to try and destroy 'The One' and save Earth.
You are not alone in this task- you will be part of a team.
I am your guide in this task. If you succeed, I benefit too, so I will offer help when help is needed.
If you have any questions, approach the blonde girl who will be sitting in the corner of this place as soon as you get the chance.

I stood there innocently.

RACHEL #1 - WITH JONATHAN FISHER
I realised I'd appeared in someone's home. I probably looked kind of weird in my morphing outfit.

"Boo." Why the heck not, I shrugged as I attempted to be a stereotypical ghost and scare the inhabitant of this place. Before he could react, I added quickly, "How do you feel about saving the world?"

Seeing a girl standing there shocked me beyond words. How had she gotten into a one of the safest military bases in the world? No human could ever...wait!Animorphs? Yeah, the bunch of morph-capable kids who had kept the invasion at bay for years. And this guy, the one who had given a speech in TV, told us that one of them had died, a girl with long, blond hair! Was she a ghost? Hadnt she really died?Perhaps my reaction wasn't the most appropiate, but I had so many questions, I picked up my rifle and aimed at her, it wasnt loaded but hopefully she wouldnt know that.-What are you? What are you doing here?-

I slightly lowered the pistol. If I fired now, he would have a punctured lung and broken ribs. 'You've caught my attention. The whole stroy sounds completely unreasonable and insane, but the very fact that you managed to track me down says that you have something powerful backing you." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw another rabbit. BANG! The pistol fired and the rabbit dropped. "I'm in. Come have some lunch with me."

And then some tart popped out of the air. Fisher nearly jumped out of his couch with a yell of surprise.

"Whoa! Who the hell are you, and how'd you get into my apartment?" He scrambled off the couch, putting it between him and the girl. Where the hell had he left the pistol? He eyed her cautiously, noting she was wearing only a skin-tight black leotard, giving her a look similar to someone he'd seen on TV before. "Who are you, and what's with the get up? And what the hell are you talking about?" He demanded.

DAVID
I shrugged- it was as good a reason as any to believe me, though I figured that if I actually had some kind of weird Crayak-given special abilities in addition to this whole teleporting thing, it might convince him more.

"I guess you could say that I have something's backing." I jumped as he fired the gun that had been pointing at me not too long ago. Then I realised how cowardly I looked. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to remind myself that I was better than this, that I shouldn't be so nervous. "Yeah, OK. We can discuss the whole deal over lunch." I then realised my blank face might seem strange, so I attempted a smile.

RACHEL #3 - WITH DANIEL
I kind of expected the gun reaction, but the only thing that stopped me from trying to morph grizzly and take a bullet was that he asked not 'who' but 'what' I was. So this guy wasn't just the brawns of this whole plan.

"What am I?" I repeated his question, not totally sure myself. "Well, I'm not dead anymore, but not exactly alive either. At least, I don't think so. You remember the Animorphs? Or more specifically, you remember hearing about one that died just before the end of the war?" I jabbed a thumb at myself. "That one was me. And the reason I'm here now is because there's...someone out there who wants to protect Earth. There are a lot of things out there besides Andalites and they're not all friendly." I frowned as I continued, hoping I wasn't sounding totally insane. "This...someone decided to pick you to try and destroy an alien that wants to absorb every last human." I fell silent, waiting to see whether I'd get to test out whether I could morph.

RACHEL #1 - WITH JONATHAN
I couldn't deny it, it felt good to give this guy a scare. Not as good as it was to go scaring Hork-Bajir and making them retreat before my grizzly figure, but this would do for now.

"How'd I get in? Well, I needed to talk to you and I couldn't find you so I figured I'd just go straight to you." I wasn't interested in getting sidetracked about the technicality of my new semi-ghostly powers. I figured I'd just answer his questions straight out. "I am Rachel, this is my morphing outfit and I'm talking about the Animorphs. You know them, right? Kids who saved the world and then ran away in a Yeerk ship and are now somewhere up in space?" I hoped he knew enough about them to figure out who I was by my appearance and name. "They need help and I happened to get sent by....someone because this someone thinks that you have the skills to help them out." I'd go into detail once he seemed like he would listen.

Karakae was about to answer the girl when a series of images washed through her. The sense had probably only lasted for a moment, but it felt like forever. Inside of them, Claire shrank back, clearly frightened. Karakae placed a hand to the side of her head, feeling slightly woozy. What the....?

Her job. She needed to focus on her job. She gave her head a quick shake, trying to push off the feeling/

"Uh... my apologies for my spaciness, ma'am. Menu is to the right there," she said pointing. "And our special for the day is there." She gestured to the colorful board right above her. "Most drinks come in both hot and cold variations, so feel free to try either kind. May I recommend the peppermint cream frap from a nice warm day?"

She looked to the clock briefly. She had roughly 20 minutes until her lunch-break. Not too long. She would go to talk to this girl then.

Within a minute the fresh rabbit had been skinned and cleaned, and was roasting over the fire next to the one I had shot along the way. Soon the first was finished, and I divided the meat between us. It was a good rabbit, very fatty and covered with succulent meat.  "You better make this fast. Within a half hour something is going to have followed the smell back to here."

Fisher just looked at her, mouth half-open, and an incredulous look on his face. He stared at her silently for a moment, and then:

"Are you out of your damn mind? They took off years ago, and you're dead! Look, you did a good job on the cosplay slash hero worship thing, but please get the hell out of my apartment, I'm not in the mood for some crazy bull**** story. If you really want me to buy something that whacked out, you're gonna need a helluva good reason other than some good suit."

RACHEL #3 - WITH CLAIRE AND KARAKAE
I saw that the young woman had got the images and I realised that the Ellimist was really letting me go wild. I couldn't help but feel slightly good about getting these little abilities. How on earth did he manage to stop himself from intervening in more stuff if he had abilities a hundred times more powerful than I temporarily did?

"No, it's OK. Sorry." I added meaningfully, feeling slightly bad for distracting her during her work. I needed to stick around until she was free, so I'd buy something and sit in the corner for a while. I then froze for a moment as I realised I didn't have any money- I put a hand in my pocket and felt paper. Of course, the Ellimist couldn't have me unprepared. "Peppermint cream? Sounds good. I'll take one of those, thanks." I replied.

DAVID
I took the meat without even realising that I could interact with objects and nodded as this dangerous hunter told me to hurry up. It smelt good, very good- I winced as I had a flashback to living as a rodent, eating cold, dead, half-torn apart seagulls when I was lucky enough to get meat. But this was different- it was cooked and the man next to me had caught it by his own will. I started eating silently. I had learned my lesson when the Animorphs trapped me as a rat. I'd messed with them and they were at the top of the food chain, so to speak. It was evident to me that this guy was the same. I knew deep down that if I really wanted, I could defend myself, especially with Crayak's backing, but for now I didn't want to cause any trouble for myself. So I wasn't going to say anything. Except, "Thanks." I spoke through a mouthful of rabbit. It was good. How long had it been since I'd eaten decent food?

RACHEL #1 - WITH FISHER
I'm not normally a quiet person, but this man's reaction left me speechless for a few moments. Then I laughed shortly. Hero worship. He thought I was some insane youth pretending to be, well, me. I was actually kind of proud that those were the exact words he used. "Hero worship", "Hero". I was a hero. And I needed to prove that I was this very same "hero" that got killed three years ago. I felt a familiar and dangerous grin appear on my face as I decided to test whether death and the circumstances of my reappearance had changed me.

I shot upwards, shaggy fur cascading down my arms and legs. "I was dead. Death was kind of interrupted." Fur began to cover my morphing suit as my arms and legs swelled, becoming thicker. As my hands grew larger and fingers melted together, fingernails becoming harder and longer until they were claws, I added, "It was interrupted to come and talk to you about this, you, not some other guy. So you need to hearrrowr-" The ears that appeared atop my head signalled that I was some way through the change and as fur replaced the skin on my face, a snout pushed out of my face and I was too far gone to speak like a human. <You need to hear me out. Someone chose you to help the Animorphs. They took off and got caught by the same alien that's gonna wipe out everyone on this planet if you don't help me out.> I stood, looking down at him with blurry grizzly vision, a full-sized bear. <Is that a good enough reason?> I asked with a tinge of humour.

I doubted, I had no way of defending myself is she really could morph, finding the clips in my bag would take to long, hopefuly I could make an escape outside of the quarters were my mates would shred her, I had no way of knowing she was telling the truth, but I decided to believe, as far fetched as it seemed. I lowered my weapon.-I got that part about saving the planet but.Who did you said sent you?-

"Whaaaaaaa!" Fisher yelled, leaping back into his bedroom doorway as the crazy tart suddenly sprouted hair and exploded upwards, nearly bumping into his cheap-ass ceiling. He'd seen the movie of course, he knew what was happening. But this was way wilder, and way creepier, than Spielberg's CGI. Eye bulging out, he stared in awe, and nearly jumped as he felt thought speak echoing through his mind for the first time. Brushing his head by reflex at the telepathy, he gulped as the bear spoke to him. "So, the real McCoy eh?" He swallowed again, then collapsed against the doorframe, shaking. "Holy ****, holy ****, holy ****."

Getting some of his strength back, he took two steps forward, trying to express himself. "Listen, I really dunno what the hell you're doing here. I'm Jonathan Fisher, I'm an ex-UNSN Marine, I have an eighty percent average in high school, I work at Target as a clerk. I've got zero combat experience. Why the hell are you asking me? There are thousands of guys better for this than me, most of 'em are probably at Fort Bragg right now. So, uh, why me?"

While David ate I began checking on the rabbit. I had forgot to take out the bullet. I carved a clean circle of meat and tossed it into the fire while examining the bullet at the center. "Sloppy. Could have caused lead poisoning. Can't even reuse the shot, since the tip bent."

RACHEL #2 - WITH DANIEL
I began to think quickly- this guy was definitely smart and had picked up on what I'd casually mentioned. If he found out about the Ellimist and then failed this task, he'd get assimilated or whatever and then the Ellimist would be in danger himself.

"I'm not actually sure...I didn't get to see exactly who or what. All I know is that I was dead and then I wasn't. And I was given instructions to come down here and round up more people." I shrugged, hoping that I was convincing enough.

RACHEL #1 - WITH FISHER
It felt good to be a grizzly again, strength radiating through my frame. I tried not to hit my head on the ceiling that was way too close to my head as I watched the reaction to my morph. I hadn't expected to startle him quite so much but to his credit, he was pretty quick to recover, asking me why him.

<Well, I know it sounds like a bunch of crap, but I guess you could say fate or whatever. It decided you had certain qualities that would make you an ideal choice for this, whatever these qualities are.> The Ellimist could mess slightly with the way things were, so I figured it wasn't exactly wrong to call him "fate".

DAVID
I watched as the hunter cast a critical eye over the rabbit, commenting on the fact that he'd missed a bullet in its body. I guessed this guy really knew his stuff when it came to weapons. Which made me glad that he was chosen. Because I got the sense that if the people I was overseeing completed this task, it would be worth it.

-Ok, fair enough- I put the rifle back in my bunker,    -just give me a minute,I had just finished packing-I opened my bag and quickly dumped everything out. Then I geared up, first the kevlar-titanium pieces of body armor in shins and legs, then the ones in forearms and the vest, all of them black. Finally the helmet in its distinctive blue camo pattern, that covered my forehead and the back of my head and went down to cover the back of my neck. It had a small visor that was both bullet-proof and a hud for missions, but as mine had been deactivated, it would only offer protection and night vision. A 9mm handgun was strapped to my leg and a tiny ballistic knife hanged from my chest. At last I loaded my rifle and concealed the 9 remaining clips (12 mm, caseless) in my uniform. -If whoever sent you can bring you back from the dead, you think he can teleport us out of here?-

The second rabbit was done. I divided the meat again and put it into two leather pouches. I tossed the first one to him and started to put out the fire. "We have to move. The smell probably attracted something dangerous. If we leave now we'll have a descent enough head start. We can eat te other rabbit on the way, and you can tell me more."

(Oops, switched to third person last post.  :XD:)

"One peppermint cream frap, coming right up," I told the girl, recovering my smile. I grabbed a nearby cup and scribbled down the order, proceeding to ring the girl up afterward. "That will be ready for you momentarily."

"Claire? Why don't you break early? The new shift is in and I want to get her on register while I'm still here." I looked over to my manager as she stepped out of the back. She smiled hopefully at me. Perfect.

"No problem ma'am. Could you ring a sandwich and a sweet tea up from me then, please? I think I'm just going to eat her today."

------------------------------------------------------

Five minutes later, I had my meal and stepped out into the lobby, looking for the blonde girl from earlier. I knew for a fact that something about her was abnormal already, so I wanted to remain on my guard. Inside, I could feel an uneasiness from Claire. She didn't want me to do this and it took several reassurances to get her to calm down.

I spotted the girl a moment later and eyed her warily on approach. "You wanted to talk to me? At least I think I have that right."

Citrus walked from school, with tears on her face. She'd just got into the most major fight with her friends yet, but even so, it wasn’t that bad. She closed her eyes, enjoying the wind. Oh, how I wish I could morph...Of course though, if I could, I would  probably just get myself trapped as a hawk She thought. She then came up to the forest, and wandered around until she found that bench. She sat down, then started reading.

(Firstly, I'm trying not to overload posts with text/create lots of unnecessary boring posts, so I'm skipping out on scenes of David rounding up the NPCs in Crayak's team, implying that they're in the know as seen later in the post.)

(Secondly, don't worry, Karakae- this isn't a particularly strict RP! Feel free to choose whichever style you prefer. I would have gone with third person but I feel that for the purposes of plot, it's good to see what Rachel and David are thinking! This goes for anyone else- don't feel obliged to use first-person if you prefer third!)

RACHEL #2 - WITH DANIEL
I waited as patiently as I could for the soldier in front of me to get his gear together. Luckily it didn't take forever and as he asked me whether we could teleport out of here, I could understand why with all the kit he was carrying. I nodded.

"I'll see what I can-"

The surroundings shifted suddenly and we were out of the base before I could complete my sentence "-do..." I rolled my eyes. Then I added, "Well, here we are. The next step is to find your teammates. Right now they're being briefed on what's going on. Once they know what's what, I guess they'll want to find you and each other...or just go straight for the nearest spaceship..." I trailed off, thinking about what the next move was. We needed to get going. I remembered solemnly that the Crayak was doing the same as us right now and if we wanted to beat him, time was important. As soon as this soldier had made his decision and planned his next move, I'd...vanish? Return to myself? I had a vague feeling that I wasn't the original me.

DAVID
I nodded, just about catching the rabbit and biting into it hungrily. Real food... I got ready to leave and started my explanation right away.

"The alien that's threatening Earth is somewhere out in space. It's absorbed the Animorphs and at any moment it could find knowledge of this planet in their brains. I don't know much about it other than its name, 'The One', and that it can somehow absorb or assimilate people and gain access to their brains. It needs to be destroyed and you are one of the people chosen to destroy it." I had tried out some thought-speak earlier and somehow, despite me being me, it had worked. I had managed to contact the other two members of this team. "There are a few others that will be coming with you and the way I see it, there are two options. You can try and find a transport method to head out into space or you can meet up with the others first." I didn't really care what he chose to do first. My job was just to gather everyone together and then give them pointers if they needed any.

RACHEL #3 - WITH KARAKAE AND CLAIRE
I paid for the frappucino and found a waiting spot. Sooner than I expected, the young woman who had sold me the coffee approached. She asked whether I wanted to talk and I nodded.

"I did. About earlier. Sorry that I did that weird psychic thing, but you were busy." I then introduced myself. "My name is Rachel. You might have heard of me, might not. Because I am the Rachel that most people think of when they hear that name." I took a deep breath, "I realise that I am...or was dead. But right now, I'm here because the human race is in danger again. You see, there's a being somewhere in space known as 'The One'. It has a dangerous ability- it can absorb people. If it can gain access to their knowledge, it will find out that there are lots of people with lots of knowledge on Earth and will want to absorb every last one. There's not much else that's known about it, but one thing that's clear is it needs to be hunted down. You happen to be one of the people chosen for this task." I fell silent, waiting for her reaction. I could understand if she objected. I had no idea why the Ellimist had chosen the people he had. He hadn't even had the decency to give me much information about them, only letting me track them down. But I knew the Ellimist well enough to guess that there was a definite purpose behind his choices, so I believed that this woman, whoever she was, was important and significant at this time.

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS
The first thing I knew is that I was somewhere surrounded by trees. A forest of some sort. I could feel a tugging at my core and realised that I was sent to find the final team member for the Ellimist. I looked down at myself to realise I was in the same morphing outfit as usual. I sighed, picking my way through the forest and trying to avoid sharp stones or twigs. I wondered with a pang of...nostalgia? Regret? Homesickness? Had Cassie ever managed to find out how to morph clothes like that Andalite estreen of what seemed like forever ago? Cassie was decent at morphing...I wonder whether she morphed now. If I'd survived, I'd definitely be using the morphing power. For fun, of course, since it was unofficially forbidden by Jake during the war. I saw a bench from a distance and instinctively knew that I'd reached my target. A girl was reading a book. I walked around and came to stand in front of her, offering a simple greeting.

"Hi."

As I listened to his explenation we strolled through a beautiful section of the woods.I never hunted here to preserve the beauty. Wildflowers bloomed all over the place. A good amount of rabbits had wised up enough to stay in this part of the woods where they only had to deal with natural predators. You could see them everywhere, watching us without fear.

"I think we should find a way to meet up with the others. I'd rather have some backup than go in alone."

-A team, what can you tell me of my team mates that can help me find them?- I was intrigued, the only military organization capable of space travel besides ourselves was the UNSC, stationed in the USA, so a space base of either one of them would be the first place to look for a way out of the planet, possibly our own base of Mattera in Italy or UNSC JFK space centre in the USA, Florida . But an obvious question was still there "if a near all powerful being wants us to meet, why dont we just appear next to each other? It would be much easier than rounding everyone up and less dangerous than going to space by ourselves."

Citrus bit her lip, a slight bit ticked about someone interrupting her. She finished her sentence, then looked up. There was a girl, about 4 years older than her. "Hi!" she said fake cheerfully, but sounding very happy, and smiling at the person. Citrus moved over a bit closer to the edge of the bench. "Want a seat?"

Fisher eyed the girl/bear cautiously. It was so utterly absurd, but on the other hand, a dead girl was morphing in his kitchen, so simply being silly didn't qualify as an argument anymore. He took a nervous step forward.

"Well, what do I have to do?"

DAVID
I looked around and I hate to admit it, but this was a pretty nice scene. I guess nature could be beautiful sometimes. After wasting some time examining the scenery, I answered the hunter.

"Well, since you need transport, why not meet them outside the nearest...I don't know, air base or whatever. I don't know how the whole spaceship thing works, who's allowed to own them, fly them, that kind of thing." I hadn't exactly been around after the war so apart from being aware that Andalites visited the planet, I was in the dark. "I can pass on the message if you want to pick a place to go."

RACHEL #2 - WITH DANIEL
I closed my eyes for a moment and then managed to receive some memories from my temporary copies.

"There's a young woman, a girl and another guy. I think he's kind of like you." When this soldier pointed out something very obvious, I wanted to smack myself in the forehead for not even thinking of teleporting everyone to the same place. Instead, I nodded, smirking. "That would be sensible. If you want..." I wondered how much I could do. "...I could send you to the nearest place where a ship is located and then send the others along. They haven't been quite as fully briefed as you yet." I felt myself borrowing power from the Ellimist and I focused on the man next to me. "As soon as you're ready, think of the place you want to go and you should end up there." I hoped he would be ready soon, I was already feeling some kind of strain from concentrating so hard.

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS
I waited for the girl to look at me and she did. She greeted me pretty happily and I wondered whether the Ellimist was thinking of boosting morale when he picked such a cheerful girl. I almost felt bad that he'd picked her for such a dangerous mission, but I'd been barely a teenager when my own mission had begun when we encountered Elfangor years ago. She offered me a seat and I shook my head politely.

"Sorry, I'm not staying. I'm here to tell you that you have been chosen for something. A mission that's pretty important. The Animorphs...you know them, right? Well, they ran into trouble while up in space and they've been captured by a dangerous being. This being can absorb other lifeforms and if it can steal their knowledge, it will find out that Earth is full of people who know a lot of things about a lot of subjects. The being needs to be destroyed before it can turn on Earth and the Animorphs need to be rescued...and you're one of the people chosen for this mission." I wondered whether she'd accept or turn it down. I'd understand if she wasn't up for this.

RACHEL #1 - WITH FISHER
I looked down at the guy as he stepped forwards. Whatever I might have thought, he had guts. I could understand him shouting at a random girl interrupting his life, but even when she turned into a bear, he wouldn't suddenly turn tail and run.

<Get whatever items you need to bring with you. I expect that the ship you're going to steal will be fully-stocked so you probably won't need to worry about packing food. Just bring whatever is necessary.> Weapons, clothes, whatever he thought he'd be using for this whole thing. I suddenly had an image in my head of a fully-equipped soldier standing next to me. <And it looks like one of the people you'll be travelling with is all ready to go. He'll find wherever you need to be to get a ship so you can get off Earth. I...think I can send you to him once he's there.> I realised that the image was a memory of one of my temporary copies. As the original one, I should probably demorph- it wouldn't do for me to turn up as a bear outside an air base and make people think that a morphing terrorist was on the loose. I focused on myself, the familiar blonde hair and slightly tall frame that excluded me from being considered a good gymnast. I began to get closer to the floor and suddenly this guy was taller than me again. As my arms and legs shrank and my eyes went from small and dark to normal-size and blue, I started to think about how I'd be teleporting people around some more.

Where to?Appearing in a UNSC base while fully equiped would be suicide. The EF and the USA werent in the greatest of diplomatic situations.I didnt want to shoot my mates so Mattera was a bad idea if we had to steal a ship, as a scheduled launch was a long, boring, burocratic process, and the suicide nature of the mission wouldnt make it any easier to get a ship legally. JFK space centre was left, but first I wanted to see who I was working with -I'd like too see this other person "like me"-

I sighed and looked down at my lunch, setting it on the table and sitting down. I guess I should have been surprised to find the material ghost of the legendary Animorph before me, but I guess I had seen enough weirdness in my life, that very little got to me anymore. Let's just face it. I had lived a lot longer than many of my race. Didn't help that so many of us had gotten our lives cut short during the war.

"Getting called to duty again," I said with a slight laugh. "Guess I wasn't done yet. Still, if something powerful enough to bring you back is telling me, I guess saying no is probably a poor plan. I'll do what I can, but no promises." I gave my drink a small shake to stir it. "Don't suppose this Ellimist told you what I was when he told you come talk to me, did he?"

After all, it was odd that this "all-powerful" being would select something like her. Sure, Yeerks were known to be dangerous, but they were also a bit of a liability. The whole three-day-limit thing and all.

"Sure, what would I need?" Citrus asked, excited. Citrus loves to read, and often wishes her life was more adventurous. She then processed the fact that that was Rachel, from the animorphs, and this would involve the animorphs. She then asked "uh...also, is there anyway that I could get the morphing technology?"

Fisher backed up, hands out in front of him warningly.

"Whoaaa there, steal a ship? Are you insane?" He shook his his firmly. "No, no way. For one there are only about five human ships on Earth and only two of those are actually in port right now, I think. Second, how the hell would I do that? They're damn well guarded, I can't just waltz in there and take off without getting blown to bits, or getting blown out of the sky. Hell I don't even know how to fly the damn things, let alone get us into z-space. The only other ships I know belong to the Andalite embassy, and they're sure as hell not gonna just give one over, and they're guarding them better than ever since your friends took off in that one."

RACHEL #2 - WITH DANIEL
I sighed, trying to keep my concentration going. I changed the direction of the energy I was channelling, aiming it towards the apartment where I was standing with another guy, having just demorphed.

"OK. When you're ready to go, just imagine yourself teleporting and that should take you to him." I didn't have much else to say. I just wanted to get the mission going.

RACHEL #3 - WITH KARAKAE AND CLAIRE
I frowned when the woman before me mentioned being "called to duty". Had she been a soldier at the time of the war? Now I understood why she'd been chosen if she'd had fighting experience before. However, there was no way I was prepared for what came next. Two words that she had never been supposed to know passed her lips. 'The Ellimist'.

I froze and stared at her. This wasn't good. If she knew...if she knew, then this group doubly couldn't afford to fail. And...how did she know? Had he messed around with her life too? Was she even human? She could be, I don't know, an Andalite in disguise, something like that. Before I could continue trying to come up with stupid theories, I asked suspiciously,

"How do you know about him?" Would he want me to remove her if she was a liability? I wasn't a stranger to orders that involved taking out people that were causing problems...

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS
The girl got...excited. I was surprised. But I guess it was good that she wasn't afraid because she'd need courage for the upcoming mission. She asked for the morphing technology almost straight away and I couldn't help but smile. It was a pretty awesome thing to have. But then the Ellimist pointed out to me that I couldn't do everything for the team. It'd apparently be 'cheating' according to the rules of this. I'd forgotten we were playing a 'game'. I sighed and replied,

"I don't know. I'm only here to explain what's happening and offer advice if you are stuck. If you want the technology, you'll have to find a way to get it. The other people in the team might help you." It was a good idea, going out into space armed with some kind of weapon, even if it wasn't a gun or Dracon beam or something. "I can send you to meet your other teammates." I offered.

RACHEL #1 - WITH FISHER
The man backed away and I couldn't help but snort with amusement. There's a grizzly twice his size in his apartment and he'll engage it in conversation, but suggest something as simple as stealing a ship and he chickens out. He explained his reasoning and I couldn't help but smile guiltily as he pointed out that it was the fault of my friends that security was tight nowadays.

"Well, I'd be surprised if someone involved in this didn't know how to get hold of a ship. I'm only really here to advise and explain, not barge in there myself. It's apparently 'against the rules' of my being here." I rolled my eyes at the thought of rules and then became aware of something. "Well, it looks like one of your teammates might be turning up sooner than expected, so you'll be able to brainstorm with him." I waited to see whether we'd actually get another guy appearing here.

I blinked a few times. I had hit the nail right on the head, by the looks of it. Interesting. I had obviously caught her off guard.. She seemed heavily suspicious. I guess I wasn't supposed to catch that. I smiled and shook my head. "Relax, your secret is safe with me," I told with a playful wink. Almost flirty.

I tamed my expression back to down to something more serious. No time to be screwing around her. I was quiet for a second, collecting my thoughts.

"To be honest, I was completely guessing. I know stories... you pick them up when looking for a place to settle. Supposedly, the Ellimist is an all powerful being that rarely shows itself... other than that, I know little about it." I shrugged, opening my lunch. "But I guess I just figured that not many things can bring someone back from the dead unscathed. It was a lucky guess, in short."

I took a bite of my sandwich, thinking for a moment. Since it looked like I was right, things had just gotten a lot more interesting. And complicated. Hm. I would have to be careful with this one.

After a moment more of silence, I looked back to her. "Alright then. It looks like I'm in for sure," I told her.

RACHEL #2
My job here was done. After the soldier vanished, I also felt myself ceasing to exist.

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS
I was somewhat put out at the girl's reaction and couldn't help but feel slightly offended as she turned back to her book. I folded my arms and waited for a short while.

"So, are you going to go meet up with them?" I asked impatiently. "I can send you their way." I hoped this wouldn't put a spanner in the works.

RACHEL #3- WITH KARAKAE AND CLAIRE
I wasn't expecting the young woman to wink at me and for a moment confusion overrode my suspicion. Then I remembered what I was doing. I was on a mission. I watched her closely. What kind of people hear stories about the Ellimist? I mean, what kind of humans? She then voiced her agreement for the mission and I wondered what the Ellimist was playing at, picking someone or something that knew about him.

/How interesting. I had no idea that tales of my fame would spread to them.../ The previously silent being remarked and I almost jumped. /Well, this is not completely unexpected./ He finished and I thought furiously, 'What do you mean, them?' He didn't answer and I frowned. Something weird was going on here. And I didn't like it one bit. This could ruin everything! /Well, she has already agreed. Don't get too angry, it's not good for your health. You'll simply have to avoid failure./ The Ellimist was so helpful. I sighed, deciding that I'd ask this woman exactly where she'd picked up these stories later.

"Alright." I eyed her cautiously. "If you'd like to join the people you'll be working with on this mission, I can send you to them. With his help." If she knew the Ellimist, then I wouldn't have to watch what I was saying. "He's let me borrow a few of his tricks to try and make this whole venture successful." I began to concentrate, ready to send the young woman to the flat where half of the team were already waiting.

RACHEL #1 - WITH FISHER AND DANIEL
I blinked as a man in combat gear appeared before us and I finished demorphing as quickly as I could, returning to my barefoot, morphing outfit-wearing self. I then received the exact memories of the discussion I'd had with this soldier.

"Welcome to the party." I remarked, grinning. If we were lucky, the rest of the team would be along shortly.

I replied to David "To be honest I don't care how we get the goal. You clearly have more information  than I do So whatever you decide would be for the best. My only request is that you let me drop off this buck and tell my family that somebody else will need to take my place as hunter while I'm gone."

I nodded, slowly. I knew that it must seem kind of odd that I was so calm about this. Actually, it was sort of odd to me that I was so calm about this. I blamed it on my past. I should have figured that it would come back to haunt me eventually.

"I suppose I can go whenever needed. However...." I looked back to the bar, where all my co-workers continued to buzz about their jobs. "I know this is going to sound silly, considering everything you just told me, but how long will this take?" I could feel myself cringing at the question. She was going to either laugh at me or get mad. But I forced myself to finish it. "Because I doubt my boss with find someone else to cover the rest of my shift and I really need to keep this job."

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS
That was it! I lost my temper and borrowed the Ellimist's power. I focused as hard as I could, attempting to send this girl to meet other team members whether she liked it or not! Hopefully this would work.

DAVID
I listened as the hunter explained what he wished to do. He wasn't so bad when he wasn't aiming dangerous weapons at you. I was just finishing my briefing with the other team members so I had enough time to spare in order to grant his request.

"Sure, we have enough time for that. The others aren't quite ready to meet up yet." As soon as the hunter was done, I would be sending an Andalite and Hork-Bajir his way.

RACHEL #3 - WITH KARAKAE AND CLAIRE
The young woman was certainly not bothered by all these events. Though she knew of the Ellimist, so I was pretty sure at that point that nothing could possibly shock her. I was surprised, however, by how she genuinely seemed bothered at the thought of losing a job. But then again, I reflected, if she'd experienced a tumultous life (which she probably had if she knew of the Ellimist), she'd probably just want to live a nice, normal life which happened to include having a job at a coffee shop. I tried to answer as well as I could.

"Uh, if you mean how long am I going to continue this conversation, well, I've told you all you need to know so if you want, you can return to your shift. I'll hang around here until you're done and then I'll teleport you over to the rest of the team if you want. If you mean how long this mission is going to be?" I shrugged not unkindly. "...well, I'm sorry, I wish I knew myself."

We broke from the trees into a wide clearing. A cluster of low, log homes areplaced unevenly aroind the site. The smell of portable generators is very clear. A small group of children rush up to the boys to admire the buck. "Wow!"

"Okay, is it wrong is I want some alone time right now?" Citrus said, totally ticked off right now, but trying to show it as little as possible. "I'm not in my best mood right now, and this isn't helping."

I nodded. "I meant the meeting with the team, but if it can wait until after my shift is done, I'd say go with that. I am off for the day in about 3 hours. Been working most of the morning. I will meet with the team then."

I fell silent for a moment. She didn't know what I was.... I was about 98% sure of that now. Interesting. It looked like her "boss" was keeping her in the dark as well. Sounded like the stories of the Ellimist may have been more accurate than I had initially thought. What an interesting situation.

It would be even more interesting when my species came into the open though. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret forever. In fact, it would be best not to, so that we could deal with my "extra" needs right up front. I ran the various situations through my mind as I ate.

<Karakae....> I heard Claire speak up. She had been quiet this entire time, uneasy about what was going on. Her voice sounded young; so young in fact, that it was like that of a child. Her tone was worried.

<It's okay, hun,> I assured her, my tone warm. <Nothing is going to happen to us. I promise.>

<... okay.>

(You can run the three hour jump and have Karakae approach you so that you may take her to the others.)

DAVID
I was kind of surprised to see that the hunter didn't just spend free time in the wild but practically lived there. The houses looked kind of homey, but I'm the guy who broke into a hotel just to have a nice place to stay the night, so I couldn't really imagine living there. I was even more surprised when a bunch of kids came running up. I didn't know whether they could see me so I decided to hang back and wait until the hunter had dealt with them.

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS
I was on the verge of losing my temper and raising my voice or even shouting when the Ellimist stopped me, /Temper, temper./ I sighed and growled,

"Fine. You can make your own way to the others, who knows how." I was really ticked off that she could let something small bother her. I couldn't even imagine fighting the Yeerks alone. A team meant support and less chance of getting taken out by the enemy. How could she be like this? My long dormant voice of reason pointed out that she was only young so I should cut her a bit of slack. But I couldn't quite do that. So I vanished, frustrated.

RACHEL #3 - WITH KARAKAE AND CLAIRE
It felt like those three hours didn't take long at all and I suspected that I knew why. I'd sat and nursed my drink for that time, managing to hold onto a corner table. So, I approached her again and nodded to the young woman slowly. I had been thinking in those three hours. With her knowledge of the Ellimist, maybe, just maybe, she knew more about space and other beings out there. So she would evidently be a valuable member of the team. I asked,

"Are you ready to meet the others? I can send you there at any time." I'd felt bad about startling her with the psychic assault earlier, so I added, "It might be a bit disorientating. One minute you're here, the next you'll be in...let's see, an apartment with a few other people gathered." I gave her advance warning and waited for her to confirm whether she was OK to go. Then I'd get the Ellimist to let me do the whole transportationg thing.

I dropped to one knee and started talk to the children. "Trust me, you'll be able to shoot a buck like this someday. Would you mind bringing it to Leroy?" As one, the children lifted the kill over their shoulders and carried it to one of the cabins. One turned around and said. "Who is this?" at David. "A friend. I'm going to be gone for a while, while we do buisness." The child stares at him with large brown eyes. "Will you be back?" "Of course."

I turned to David. "Follow me." As I walked to the largest house.

I smiled and took a deep breath as the former (and possibly again) Animorph explained to me what the plan was and how this whole thing was going to work. It sounded simple enough for now. I pushed some of my hair behind one ear and reassured my host once more. She was still not convinced, but she was going with it. I guess I couldn't blame her. I was a little wary too, but I made sure that Claire wouldn't pick up on it. If she did, I would never convince her.

"I'll be fine," I told Rachel with a confident look. "I can being a bit disoriented. Anyway, I have everything. Send me where I need to be."

Citrus scowled, closed the book angry, then started walking home ranting in her head. What the heck was with that girl? And what proof did she even have that she was the real Animorphs Rachel? Oh, so maybe she randomly appeared. How should I know if she randomly did? I was reading. READING. And can she not understand the need for me to be alone? I gave way bigger hints to her than my friends, and yet my friends figured it out. Uh, idiot. Citrus sighed, and went in her house

I felt uncomfortable as one of the kids looked at me. I'd never been good with children. Luckily the hunter handled it and before I knew it he was heading away from the children. I followed the instruction he gave me and trailed behind him as we headed towards a house larger than any of the others.

RACHEL #3 - WITH KARAKAE AND CLAIRE
I was impressed by the straightforward way in which the young woman stated that she was ready to make a move. I hadn't talked to her much, but I already felt the beginnings of respect forming in my heart for her. I smiled at her confidence and began to call upon the Ellimist's power. I felt it build up and concentrated.

"Alright, Ellimist Airways is open for business!" I joked. It was kind of a weight off my shoulders to not have to lie about what I was doing when it was clear that I shouldn't be able to bend time and space when I needed to. "If you imagine the physical act of teleporting- the vanishing in one place, appearing in another, it should take you to your team." As soon as she went, I too would disappear.

RACHEL #4
I suddenly was aware again. I frowned. I was no longer needed-

/We can't have the team missing one member. I suggest you try again. And do what you must this time./ The Ellimist sounded slightly unimpressed by my rage. So it wasn't a surprise when I found myself in a living room in what must be a house. I had no idea where I was exactly, but I realised that he must have sent me to the girl who'd tried to blank me. I was feeling spiteful enough to morph, maybe scare her. So, with a glance at the ceiling, checking it was tall enough, I closed my eyes and focused.

Weirdly, the back of my hands and arms sprouted fur and I felt the same thing happening to my feet before my nails grew and hardened. I didn't shoot upwards immediately but as I felt the unpleasant sensation of internal organs completely changing, I noticed that the floor was a bit further off than I expected. Well, I knew very well that morphing was always an uncontrolled process (unless you were Cassie.)

As we entered the home, a figure wearing a cloak similar to mine, stood. He was an old man. The leader of our little family. "Why have you allowed this outsider to not only enter our lands, but live?" He asked in a deep voice.

"Master," I said falling to a knee. "This stranger has come and given me a quest. I would like to leave the lands of our people to partake in it." The old man considered this and said "Do you know anything about tihs 'quest?'"  "Next to nothing."  "How well do you know this outsider."  "I met him an hour ago." He smiled. "You trust him though."

"Of course." "I'm afraid i can not let you leave the land without better reasoning," Henry stood and was silent for a second before saying, "Consider it my right of passage." The elder stared at him. "To fulfill the right of passage, a young man wishing to be a leader in our tribe must go into the outside world, and bring back another person who is willing to accept our ways and live with us."

"I am aware." "Your own father was gone for seven years before he found someone." "And he was all the stronger for it." The elder smiled. "You have my permission."

Citrus walked in, and the first thing she saw happened to be a grizzly bear. "Uh..." She was totally nervous, but confused. How on earth did a bear get in here with out destroying anything? Then she remembered about that teen who was apparently was an animorph. And Rachel did have a bear morph. "Um...hi...?" Citrus muttered, really hoping that the bear wasn't real.

I felt almost as awkward as I had with the Animorphs when I heard hints as to how these people usually dealt with outsiders. But being an outsider was nothing new. I waited silently for the hunter to negotiate with his leader. Whoever these people were, it was kind of creepy to me. It seemed almost like a cult and I couldn't even begin to guess how it worked. I felt a lot more at ease when the hunter successfully got permission to leave the community. I wondered idly if it was a religious group.

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS
Unfortunately the girl didn't turn up until I'd completed my morph so she seemed more confused and surprised than scared. I looked down at her with difficulty as my head scraped the ceiling.

<Hello there. Have you thought a bit more about the mission that you've been picked to go on?> I used thought-speech to reply to her, attempting not to show my bad mood. I tried to keep calm and not react this time around. The Ellimist wouldn't let me rest until I'd completed this.

RACHEL #1
I decided it was getting cramped as suddenly a soldier appeared half-unexpectedly. I focused on my normal body and shrunk immediately, my blonde hair emerging as fur shrunk back into my head. The demorphing continued and I hoped the grinding of bones and organs wasn't disrupting anything. I didn't need to worry because the quiet noises were pretty much inaudible as the two men gathered began to...argue. I shook my half-formed human head as my paws returned to hands and as my face finally became totally human and vocal chords finished forming, I watched them in growing disbelief. I had gathered from an image or two the Ellimist had sent me that the pair both had some kind of military organisation in their history, so surely they should get on like a house on fire? Right now they were definitely getting on like a building on fire...the kind with screaming people running away from it while it collapsed in on itself and burned to a crisp. The soldier shot me a look that I could read all too well, having probably given Marco similar glares.

"OK, OK, calm down!" I raised my voice. I wasn't the one who usually defused arguments in the past so I wasn't exactly sure what to say. So I just asked a question that would probably lead to more disagreements. "OK, so how exactly do your soldier groups differ apart from geographical differences?" I couldn't figure out why they hated each other at first sight.

As soon as we left the building, I turned around and pinned David against the wall by his shoulders. "I'm putting a lot of faith in you. If I even get a hint that your screwing with me, I'll gut you like a fish." And I released "So where do we go now?"

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS

I had enough of the girl's attitude. I started growling without even realising, the rumble of the bear's threatening voice rising in volume as I stared down at her.

<You listen here. I have not come back from the dead to sit around while some moody teenager wastes my time! We don't have time for you to have a temper tantrum. You need to go now. And you can either do what I ask or you can forget about it all. You need to stop holding people up because if you waste time, the alien that wants to kill you and everyone will get closer.> I did not sound impressed. <You either go now or I leave you. And you can forget about even trying to get the power to morph.> I threatened.

DAVID
I had less than zero time to react as I was pinned by the hunter, his powerful hands taking my shoulders. Even if I'd reacted, my pitiful body was way too weak to take him on.

"Holy crap!" I yelped as he threatened me and then let me go. I shook myself off, my long dormant pride telling me to grow a mane and show him that despite what he believed, I was the boss here. But I knew that it wasn't worth the hassle. Plus Crayak would not let me get away with it unpunished. I breathed deeply to calm down and replied,

"We steal a spaceship. Your teammates are making their way towards an air base right now and if you gather outside, you can team up and hijack a ship." I tried not to glare at him.

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS

I didn't honestly know how to deal with the girl who was losing her temper even more now. My growling quieted as she departed but I made sure to aim my thought-speech through walls and floors at her.

<I didn't choose to come back from the dead. And life when I was your age? I was fighting the Yeerks, almost getting killed every mission and getting no sleep.> I spoke quietly, dangerously. <I didn't have your easy lifestyle. I was trying not to go mad while I tried to make sure everyone stayed alive.> I was ready to give up and leave but I worried that the Ellimist would force me to stay here when I couldn't stand it.

I calmed down as the hunter pointed out that it didn't make a difference who I was, I'd get the same kind of treatment. So I calmed down and explained,

"Your team-mates are a Hork-Bajir and an Andalite." I'd managed to get the Crayak to bring them across the country to here, though they were still some way away and currently waiting around.

I turned with difficulty as I heard a door start to open. The girl pointed out that her mother was going to lose it if she saw me here. I probably should have demorphed but I was irritated with the girl's failure to listen to my mission. So I asked,

I took my leave of the coffee shop after Rachel's disappearance, heading home first. The car drive was quiet. I didn't really feel like listening to the radio or my iPod. My mind was elsewhere. As it was, it took all my concentration just to not drive like someone half asleep.

When I got home I tossed my bag on the couch and wandered to the storage closet. My home was a small studio style apartment with a pleasant enough location. I didn't mind being on the outer part of town as it made it easier to get to my small Yeerk pool; something that I crafted when the Yeerk-human war had still been going. I had it hidden way outside of town where no one would likely ever find it.

From the top of my closet, I drew a large dusty box down and took it to the table. Opening it, I drew out the one thing of it's contents that I had been looking for.

My old Dracon Beam was dusty, but still appeared to be in good condition. I wished I could test it before I would need it, but I really didn't have time. People were waiting on me. I sighed and made sure the safety was on and that it was set for a stun level. I, then, dug out the case for it, slipped it in and attacked it to my belt. Like a holster, but shaped differently. It felt odd and brought back some uneasy memories. I pushed them aside and check the box for any of the other old equipment I had. Nothing else of use for now.

Putting it back, I looked around the room, going over some last minute thoughts. I checked to make sure the door was locked then threw my purse in my room. Just me and my weapon. All I needed. I closed my eyes and did as Rachel had told me; disappearing.

--------------------------

When I reopened my eyes, I stood in an apartment that was not my own. I looked around to see three others here. Rachel, of course, waited with two others that she did not recognize. I nodded at her and relaxed a notch.

"I'm here," I told her calmly, waiting for some indication as to what I was doing next.

RACHEL #4 - WITH CITRUS

Guilt hit me unexpectedly. I'd been so bothered about everything and...self-centred, I guess, that I didn't even think to realise that there was a chance that we would fail. Be lost in space. I was used to being confident, to succeeding, to being the one sacrificed. This time everything could be different. I immediately began to demorph, shrinking and losing fur.

<I'm...sorry.> I apologised. <I've been acting like a total jerk.> I had lost sight that not every teenager was a war-hardened veteran, that they might object to having their life ruined. <I...I'm an idiot. Just because I had to be the fighter, doesn't mean that I'm right to get angry at people who didn't have to...shouldn't have to suffer the same fate as me.> When had I lost my ability to empathise? No matter how cagey everyone was about it, there was no denying that I'd become...well, like a monster. Maybe this second chance would teach me how to become a real person again. Maybe I was meant to redeem myself for the past. On a sudden impulse, I looked critically at the girl before me. She had become emotional but she hadn't crumbled under the pressure of an angry bear Animorph. She was stronger than I gave her credit for. <And I'm sure we'll be able to find you a way to get the ability to morph.> I grinned, mostly human.

RACHEL #1 - WITH FISHER, DANIEL, KARAKAE, CLAIRE

I blinked as a young woman appeared and I received the memories of my disappeared part of me. Ah, I respected her a tiny bit. Maybe she could be a peacemaker. I sure didn't know how to stop this fight that went over my head.

"Welcome." I smiled and nodded to her. "These two," I gestured to the soldier and the man who owned the apartment in which this impromptu 'party' was taking place. "Will be working with you on this whole thing."

DAVID

"Illegal?" I perked up, clearly interested in this knowledge. My memories were faded, but I realised that I hadn't survived the war. And I realised that maybe some strange things had happened. I knew that Earth was free and the Animorphs had won, but illegal aliens? Had humans refused to accept the existence of Hork-Bajir and other aliens? Had they banned them from coming to Earth? I was ready to lead the hunter to the aliens waiting, but I wanted to find out what was what first.

Citrus grinned, "Okay, sorry, I've been in a bad mood too. And your choice if you want this explained to my mom, either way, we can do that later. One sec." She opened the door leading to the garage and greeted her mom. "Ma ma, ni hui lai le! Wo xian zai lou shang du shu he zou zou ye zhe ne." She closed the door again. To Rachel she then said, "well, yeah, um...I'll be upstairs, come if you want."
