Question with answers that are entirely based on people's opinions (eg. Who was the mysterious being at the end of #41?) are questions that can be discussed in depth and therefore should have a thread made to discuss the matter, unless a thread on the subject already exists, in which case you can post there.

I still don't get what it means.
I'll try to simplify this, but if that creates any glaring errors feel free to correct me.
Marxism is an economic theory thought up by this German guy Karl Marx. He thought that all of the world's problems were caused by class struggle - the owners vs. the workers - and he wanted to fix that.
He thought that it could be solved by the proletariat - the working class - overthrowing the bourgeoise (business owners) to bring about a classless society with no government. He also wanted to abolish private property.
The goal of Marxism is no government, but somewhere in there is the idea of rule by a dictator to transition into a classless state. Enlightened despots are extremely rare in history, so pure Marxism is idealistic.
Soviet-style communism draws from Marxism, but it does have significant differences.

How, how, HOW did you manage to stick history, government, and economics (classes I wouldn't go near with a 10ft pole--excluding comaritive politics. That just sounds fun.) into one simple explanation?
And to answer that question: Ax. The Andalite government is kinda...loopie. If you know what I mean by that...Maybe circular would be a better term. And Ax was a big advocate of his people.

Someone should really have just 'revived' the other Anirmorphs trivia thread that has this topic further down the forum. People are loading this space with random repetitive stuff that is subtly different and one may think of it a little silly and wasting.
I am sorry, but I fail to see Marxist undertones in ANY of the Animorphs narratives.
I got some random questions:
What kind of a wound would have made Elfangor incapable of morphing in order to heal from his fatal wounds upon meeting the Animorphs??? The Animorphs have been in pretty bad circumstances, maybe worse than his were described, they have passed out and been concussed, and always managed to demorph to restoration.
WHO oh WHO WAS THAT CRAZY OLD LADY on MM#1???
Could that sole lady who escaped on Cassie/horse's back really have gone deranged with the whole 'alien-in-her-head' experience and reverted to some psychotic woman running some sort of a business inside a run down shack in the middle of nowhere????
Were there any more clues as to WHO could have been the Controller from one of the other countries at the summit meeting at the Mariott Resort?
Who do you guys think it was???
What were the characteristics of the Mak and the Sstram???
What ended up happening in the Anati system???

It was explained in The Andalite Chronicles that his wounds, as bad they were, didn't prevent him from morphing. He was just too tired to do so.
Maybe that was the woman Cassie rescued in The Invasion? Wait. Who cares who that woman was. She was a former controller and that's all we need to know.

I believe he's talking about 'Rex' as in the K9 German Shephard detective-inspetor Rex that is always onto what the other human detectives miss in a crime scene and saves the day, and always eats that other cop who's always hungry's food he unwittingly leaves around his table.

Mom- vet at Gardens
Rachel:

Dad- Anchorman (I think...)

...I don't remember...

Mom- "Help Me" hotline of sorts (I don't have the book on me to look up what it was exactly)

*Points* Ha! See, I told you it had something to do with comptuers...more or less...ok, not really, but hey. At least I remembered what most of them did! I just remember Marco's dad flipping out about Ax and program he created, so that part of my mind said "computer programmer".
Does anyone know what grade Tom was in? Or at least a close approximation to his age?
How come the Animorphs never learned to drive? (I don't know about where they were, but around here we get our learner's permit at 15 and driver's test around 16ish. Considering they were like 16 at the end of the book, there should have been at least some mention of it. Though I feel so sorry for poor Marco's driver's ed teacher. Heck, if I were the rest of the Animorphs, I'd be chipping in to get him driving lessons so that maybe he'd stop hitting mailboxes and fences.)

I think Tom was said to be one or two years older than Tom, but I'd have to check to be sure.
In my country, you have to be 17 to drive (God knows why) but I understand that in many American states it's 16, like the Animorphs were at the end of the war. Although only Jake was confirmed to be 16 at the end of the war (the others may have been slightly older/younger) and they all went into hiding in book 49 (except for Marco) so they may not have been old enough to learn then. Or maybe they just hadn't got around to it yet.

Thank you morfowt, I'm glad somebody understood what I meant. This thread is for basic trivia and questions which only have one possible answer, as opposed to questions that can be discussed in detail. The thread was made to prevent mass numbers of threads that would have to be abandoned after the question was answered.

Tom is 16 at the beginning of the series. He's 3 years older than Jake. He dies at the age of 19.
Marco's character knew how to to drive. Although he did say something about wanting a driver's license in The Arrival. He was probably fifteen at that time.

Not only that, but notice that Marco still has full human legs as a completed lobster, while Jake and Ax seemed to have lost the lower half of their bodies even though they're only partially morphed. It looks like they're being reflected from a mirror, but the placement of it is odd to be really sure.
Also, what is up with the old lady? She sees them morph from human to animal, and she would've likely been captured after that incident in the store, so their secret would've been blown way back at #5.
It's just a really badly made cover altogether, so I'm glad they went with the Gorilla one instead.

You do realise that here in England we still got the crappy Lobster one right? I can't believe that in the UK covers, the Gorilla morph is never seen in any of the numbered books.

What was with all the hate on Marco's gorilla morph anyway? I always wondered why they gave him different morphs for the covers of MM#1 and MM#4.

Yep, that's the cover of the copy of #5 that I have. It's actually the first Animorph book I read, which might partly explain why I like Marco books so much.

I wish the books focused on the character's personal lives like The Departure and The Illusion and The Capture did more often.
The Tobias-Rachel romance was one of my favorite things despite not getting enough time to see develop.

Actually it was they kissed first in Elfangor's Secret, when they get to Princeton. Very quick and unromatic, but there's a kiss there

The Yeerks' Dracon Beam is meant to have a slight different sound to the original Andalite Shredder when firering.
On the Andalite Chronicles it was one sound, written a different way to the 'TSEEEEEW!!' of the Dracon Beam. Then on #18: The Decision it sounded just like the Dracon Beam (was written just like it). And furthermore, on #38: The Arrival it was again written the same way. Yet Aximili spotted a difference in the sound and recognized the Shredder.
Does anyone know the sound from the Andalite Chronicles I am talking about?! Should they have kept it.

I think the Ghostwriters or whatever just didn't follow up on it.
It's similar with the animal roars sounds and Hork-Bajir and Taxxons screams.
Like, I think when Tobias was captured, he heard Hork-Bajirs get amped up with "Ahhhgggg-ggghhhaaaa!" or something. Where else in the series do they write the HBajirs like that??? I mean, I remember making those sounds, but really just sounding like some Arnie movie line.

Was anyone else a little thrown by the fact that the woman they rescued in the first book, to my knowledge, was never mentioned again? I know it was their first mission, but still. It's like... <Welp, an entire alien armada is out there to who will make it their sole intention that you can't tell anyone what's happening. Oh and anyone you ever knew could turn you in. That's an interesting thought, though I never really thought about that. It's about as weird as when she seemed to build up Mellissa in book two, but never did anything with her. Though she was an Ani in Elfangor's Secret.

As might be evidenced by my story, I never really got over Melissa being all but completely ignored after the second book.

She didn't really have any place, or relevance above being a cheap plot device to show the personal effects of the Yeerk invasion on kids just like them, on families. Once Chapman had his little heroic moment, thus adding depth, Melissa had served her purpose and could be relegated back to background filler.

Except that there were plenty more places to take that storyline. :P 'served her purpose'? It never went anywhere. There was so much possibility off of that that was never touched again.

It didn't need to go anywhere. What more should be said? She's a friend of Rachel's who isn't so close to her anymore because her parents are acting all creepy and psycho. Rachel says a few little "boo hoos", vows to fight the evil heathens, rabble rabble rabble, Rachel now has a more concrete personal motivation against the slugs.
Bada bing bada boom, now we can move onto the effects of the war on Tobias, Cassie, and Marco in succession. Book 2 did what it needed to. Up and above that, Melissa was just another background character affected by the invasion.

You're missing the point. I never said it HAD to go somewhere. I said it COULD have, and in my opinion should have. Yes the plotline with Melissa never HAD to progress past that initial introduction, but it easily COULD have gone further, and I believe it was a missed opportunity to show more happening there. You can feel free to disagree, that doesn't make what I'm saying wrong, because I'm just saying it COULD have gone further.

I'm not exactly sure why that should bother anyone since the series is over anyway and it was just a comment on my own opinion and thoughts, but okay. Basically I think that the entire second book seems to be SETTING UP a plot more heavily involving Melissa into the war later on, but it never went anywhere.

I guess what I'm saying is, they could have used Tom even more, too. Erek, Arbron. It just doesn't really add anything, and would make for clunky unfocused storytelling.

And that's why I don't insist on it or anything, or even really complain. It was just a statement on my opinion. You're entitled to yours, and it's just as valid.
Edit: Basically what I'm saying is it was never that big of a deal to me, I was just stating a random thought of mine, which I still hold.

I don't know, it may sound more interesting, but once the book was published, I'd probably regret the choice because I didn't really like that book.

This entire conversation is one reason why I'm including Melissa myself in what I write so that I'm not just saying 'It would have been interesting to include Melissa' without backing it up, I'm writing it that way to show that it could have been, rather than just complaining about it.

i agree with u. its like ka forgot all about it. she kinda tried to pick back up on it in the megamorphs book, but didnt really do a good job of it.
also, overall, insteada the waste of time filler books they shoulda had books where u found out more bout alloron (ok, at least insteada the buffahuman book) cuz i mean u kinda learn bout him in AC and the HB, but i would wana kno how he became war prince, how things happened. i would so have read "the alloron chronicles" or whatever she woulda called em

Q: Did the yeerks give the morphing ability to human controllers to use them as Animorph fighters? Or did they only give it to the yeerks themselves?

It's all a matter of preference. Same will say the order of publication date. Others, like myself, will say chronological order (Which is the order I'm currently reading the series in).

Why the heck didn't the Animorphs think of getting a goose or duck morph earlier? I mean, it would have saved a whole bunch of time and energy. Bird of prey is all good until you gotta fly a couple of hours to get there, and they could have flown in formation too! All they would've had to do was learn how to fly in v-formation.

I guess it just never occurred to them. Once they had the raptor morphs, finding a more efficient way of getting around was probably not high on their list of priorities. Too preoccupied with saving the world and all of that.
Plus, ducks just aren't that cool. It would have been boring to read about ducks flying around.

I can't imagine KA never thinking of it. In just about every book where they had to travel by air, someone mentions that birds of prey aren't distance flyers, and they had to remain spread out to avoid suspicion. This screams "Get a goose/duck morph!". Something that's good at flying long distances, and travels in groups. I also wonder why Tobias never got an owl morph, when he sometimes complains that his vision isn't good at night.

I guess for Tobias it may have been something akin to the Animorphs not morphing another human without permission.
I mean, yes, technically he's a human, but physically and sometimes mentally he's a hawk. And owls and hawks are both birds of prey, so he may have felt like it was a violation.
As for never morphing ducks...Maybe it just never occurred to them. I mean, they had seagulls for blending in to places and birds of prey for distance in case they ran into trouble?
I honestly don't know how well a duck morph would do in a fight.
Either that or ducks were more likely to get hunted during hunting season? Or maybe ducks were more likely to be attacked by birds of prey? I don't know...

I was expecting her to start getting sick right at the end. But I guess she was lucky. It would have been funny if she started showing signs of getting sick right at the end, then everyone runs away from her because they don't want to catch it again.

What are "ghost writers"? I've heard people say that around the forum and I've wondered what it/they are.

A ghost writer is someone who writes a book which is then published under another name. Sometimes this is done under a fake collective name like the name Franklin W Dixon for The Hardy Boys, which was actually written by many different authors. Other times, like in Animorphs, it's when multiple writers take over a series later on while the books continue to be published under the original authors name. Most of the books starting in the late 20's are written by people other than KA, even though they were published with her name as the author. To know who ghost wrote the book, look for her dedication at the beginning of them, which is usually dedicated to her son and to the actual author.

Okay, I've always wondered where the megamorphs fit in to the book series since I just ended up reading them randomly as they came in from the library when I first started reading them xP Can some one tell me where each book comes in to the series? I think Megamorph one comes after book # 7...

Megamorphs 1 comes between book 7 and 8. Megamorphs 2 comes between book 18 and 19. Megamorphs 3 comes between books 29 and 30, and Megamorphs 4 comes between book 40 and book 41.

I've been doing a bit of rereading, and I read over book 16. cassie says she's a horrible person for telling a boy not to trust his controller father. I never understood why that's a bad thing. Does anyone understand that part?

cassie was just a tree hugging hippie. everything was hard for her to do, doesnt matter what it was really, i mean ya its bad for a kid, but the kid already knows something is wrong, so ya i dont know. cassie always seemed to feel bad for the bad guys a little too much

Actually, they do say how old the kid is. At one point after they find all the names and who they are, they refer to him being nine years old.

And anyway, telling any kid, whatever the age, not to trust their father should be a hard thing to do. I mean, the kid sorta thought his dad was a yeerk and wanted to talk to him about it and keeps saying how he's freaked out by the fact that his dad could be one of them. Cassie tells him not to trust his dad. Can you imagine that? Like, you think your dad's going through something and suddenly this person out of nowhere says not to talk to your dad about it? Never to trust your dad, your father, again? I mean, don't you think that that is horrible?
I think that's pretty harsh, and besides, in the narration, Jake says something like he and Cassie are really close to their parents or something. So maybe Cassie was just imagining what it would be like to be suddenly told not to trust your father.
I'm a strong believer of the fact that Cassie acts with her conscious and acts the way that, well, most of the time, any human being should act. No one should want to fight and not feel guilty, no one should not want peace but they should always look out for any idea of peace no matter how small, and no one should ever feel good about telling someone not to trust their loved one :P
I don't know, I mean, this is just my opinion, but Cassie should feel horrible for saying that. Sure, she saved the kid, but at what cost? Losing a father?

I'm with Estrid for the most part. I don't really like the fact that Cassie seemed to get everything in the series. Towards the end especially she was the ghostwriters pet.

I hated how she was the Ghost writer's pet, but still, she was my favorite character. I mean, yeah, she got annoying. But still, I think she acted human :P Mostly, I hated how Marco and Rachel were all: YAH LET'S DO IT, AS LONG AS WE WIN WHO CARES WHAT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE ELSE?!

They did care about others, like the rest of the team. But winning is the most important thing.
Edit: That's pretty much how Cassie was. Her ideals held precedence (sp?) over everything else. As much of a hypocrite as she was, her refusal to change at the expense of others is as bad or worse than Marco and Rachel's decision to do what they had to in order to defeat the Yeerks.

Sorry, but to me, Cassie whined about morals and all that too much.
I stopped liking Cassie around book 19. Sorry but her putting her own moral objections over the entire world, which in her mind could burn in hell as long as she could stay out of it and act morally superior killed her character for me. I know she came back and all, but when she quit the Animorphs, I quit her.

But, anyway, I still stand by the fact that I think Cassie only felt what any human should facing whatever reality she did :P Killing should be a hard thing, no matter what. And yeah, I'll agree that most of time it was like the hork-bajir didn't matter to her. But every character has their faults.

Here's a question. When they were sharks with chips in their heads, they couldn't morph small because they had something in their head. How could Jake/anyone morph with a yeerk in their head? Just cause the host has the power doesn't mean the yeerk should do it too. Never got that. *shrug*

here's my theory (which i've said it before a million times, and you probably didn't hear me say it, so I forgive you, but still it's annoying...anyway.. .): yeerks are organic, just like food the animorphs eat (in either human or in morph) so it's treated as extra body mass and sent into z-space...

Does it ever say in the books what color Taxxons are? I know that one is depicted on the cover of 43 and its a yellowish brown color . . . but I don't trust book covers, not after they got Tobias's hair color wrong. So, does anybody know the official canon answer to this question? I checked everywhere I could think of that they have a description of Taxxons, and their color is always conveniently omitted. :P (Lol, maybe K.A. never decided.)

well the hair color thing is because the model for tobias came in that day with brown hair... taxxons would have to be drawn by hand though, so their color would be as accurate as how the artist imagined them... I'm not sure actually... I always imagined them somewhere between gold and pale yellow...

Kay, I've been trying to figure this out for some time. If the Yeerks are so technologically superior, WHY HAVEN'T THEY FIGURED OUT THE FRICKIN SECURITY CAMERA YET?!? I mean, there have been plenty of times where the Animorphs have morphed in the Pool complex or on a Yeerk ship, so why are there no security cameras?

lol, a very good point Agent. I suppose for places like the Yeerk Pool, they were too arrogant to think that they needed cameras, especially as they have other advanced technology installed, such as killer robots and bio-filters.
As for other locations (eg. The Sharing or other human companies) the Animorphs were simply smart enough to morph before entering the buildings.

It's just speculation, as it is never confirmed in the books. The Ellimist erased Loren's memories of Elfangor when she was pregnant with Tobias, so it's unlikely that she would've given him the Fangor last name when he was born (unless of course she changed her last name to 'Fangor' when she was married to Elfangor.)

All of the technology they implemented was specific in that it was isolated. Like gleet biofilters only need to be at entrances, killer robots just kind of floated around. They covered the whole place, but they couldn't cover the whole area at once. I imagine the yeerk pool was so large that the amount of tapes they would need to check to see ever corner would be rediculous

Involuntary would be the word. He's probably pretending to be voluntary. It would make less of a scene, and be less likely to harm others. After all, involuntaries struggle and try to get away. There is some risk of the captors being harmed by struggling involuntaries.
As another note, the limited freedom of being voluntary could work with him.

no, the wolf was exterminated in all lower 48 states. they were found only in alaska and canada till the small population was introduced into yellowstone a few years ago

Now that's not entirely true. The San Francisco zoo has grizzly for as long as I can remember. Admittedly they only have females, but still; captive grizzlies are in CA.

the problem is in book 4, ax says they don't swim...and honestly, i can't imagine them swimming because why would the arn create them to be able to swim if the valleys they live in shouldn't have bodies of water...

I know it was mentioned in MM2 if in no other ones, since I was just thumbing through that book. ^^() Rachel mentioned Ax being able to swim quite well.
Although what bothered me there was that you would think, a la #17, he'd be injesting a lot of salt water as they're treading water. But I guess one takes facts presented in The Underground with a grain of salt, anyway, as I know that whole "They're constantly injesting whatever through their feet" thing has been rehashed until dead.
But yeah, I agree that Horks can prolly swim in the same regard as the average human can swim- not exactly charging through the water in pursuit of dolphins, but managing not to drown, sure.

Know what could be a possibility? Maybe those free Hork-Bajir, when previously controllers, had Yeerks who previously held human hosts. Sometime during their lives as controllers, maybe the knowledge of how to swim was shared.
Still though, that means they can swim, just not naturally.
Still, there needs to be some kind of water on the Hork-Bajir world. Granted the sources would be small and scarce, but life still needs water.

I think you're onto something there Think. I mean Humans can't naturally swim because we aren't designed to live in the water, it's something we've had to teach ourselves to do. There's no reason why the Hork-Bajir couldn't do the same, especially if the Yeerk in their head had prior knowledge of how to swim from a previous host (eg. a Human).

Nobody knows exactly what happened, as it doesn't appear to be the work of the Ellimist or Crayak. Many fans have guessed that the mysterious entity known as The One (seen briefly in #54) might be behind it. All we know for sure is that some powerful being decided to show Jake a possible future timeline where the Yeerks succeed in taking over Earth.

It could be because Humans can supposedly survive three days without water, but I doubt there was a specific reason besides not wanting to make it too long.

do they have six wings or twelve?
I'm just rereading The Andalite Chronicles now, and it keeps saying six pairs of wings, twelve wings, but for some reason my conception of a Kafit bird is three-pairs, six wings. Wikipedia and some fanfic agrees with me. Does this get retconned later, or does everyone in the world just have trouble picturing a bird with 12 wings so they unconsciously whittle it down to six?

OK I've been wondering about this for awhile. If the cube can accidentally give an animal the power to morph... Why couldn't it be used to give a nothlit back the power to morph? I could maybe understand under normal circumstances, a nothlit not being given back the power as their original body is gone and would no longer be viewed as an Andalite and since Andalites don't share their technology with others...
However the Animorphs don't hold to that Andalite rule so I never understood why Tobias couldn't trap himself back in his human morph and then be given back the power to morph with the blue cube??
Or was it ever stated that once trapped in a morph the cube wouldn't work? But I don't see why it wouldn't? ???

It was mostly just "understood" that once you've been trapped that the tech would no longer work for you. The inner workings of the Escafil Device were never explained. However, they said that once trapped, you would not be able to morph again. So I think it's just one of those unsaid rules, you know? That would be a good thread for discussion, you should start one.

And secondly, yes we do get that question a lot. All the time actually, lol. The truth is we don't know for certain, as we have no idea how the morphing technology worked (besides that stuff about Zero Space) and it is never specifically said that a nothlit can't use the cube. However, it seem pretty obvious that they can't, otherwise Ax or Elfangor would have mentioned it.

I've always pondered these questions myself. I mean, he would be full-fledged human, so he should be able to simply use the cube to regain morphing powers.

Ok here's a random question that just occurred to me today well at the swimming pool...
If the Animorphs where always so afraid of being made into a controller, Why did they never just invest in a supply of ear plugs? I mean if earplugs can keep water out of your ear well swimming I'm fairly sure it would stop an alien slug from getting into your ear. ;)
And on that note, I wonder if Yeerks had an ear preference? Like a right or left hand preference in humans, did some prefer going in threw the left or right ear?

What's to keep any controller from pulling the plug out? Although morphing something that doesn't have outer ears, or has ear flaps like Crocs, could be useful.
I don't know if there's evidence or anything, but going in through a certain ear repeatedly might make it easier to go through each time. I figure some Yeerks might have a certain preference. The first time could be a random ear, and subsequent infestation could usually be the same ear. But when the other controllers working at the pier are forcing a head down, they probably don't keep up with which ear is the designated ear. They are probably more concerned with efficiency. Just get the head down, pull the host up, and move on to the next step.

I highly doubt the Yeerks have a preferred ear, especially since they are blind in their natural state. And I don't think the ear plugs would work, as they are easily removed and probably can't be integrated into their demorph to human form.
Also, this is a matter for discussion and has no definite answer (as we have no way of knowing for sure), so if you want to talk about it you can make a thread for it. Please only post here if you have a simple question with only one possible answer (eg. In which book did Tobias get his morphing power back? Answer: #13).

I have a question, in book #7 the Stranger, on page #30 Rachel's says "I went up to my room and locked the door behind me" then her father knocks on the door and asked if he can come in, Rachel says sure and it says he came in...? What did he have a key? Am I missing something? if she locked the door how did he just come in? :crazy:

There are a lot of questions of that type ("Who/What was the omnipotent being that did X?") Including things such as who was the being in book #41, Who is The One, etc.

If it's the Ellimist that was speaking to Elfangor at the end of TAC, then he did make the Time Matrix, because he refers to the TM as "his machine" (or rather "our machine" because the Ellimist likes speaking in the plural for some reason. The Andalites apparently believe in "Ellimists" as a group, rather than one "Ellimist")
You could argue that Ellimist was really speaking for all hyper-dimensional beings when he introduced himself as one of "the 'we' whose machine you have used to alter the direction of time and space," though, but I never really thought Ellimist would deign to speak for Crayak and whatever other powers inhabit his dimension. Then again, he says that that same "we" are playing a game with another power, which is presumed to be Crayak.
I'm rather sure Crayak wasn't the one laughing. Remember, this was the part where Ellimist was "stacking the deck" against Crayak and the Yeerks. Drode was pissed about that in MM4, so I don't think Crayak would laugh about it.
As for The One, because he was introduced in the last chapter of the series, there's really no indication as to who or what he is. I think most people assume he is either Crayak, some subordinate of Crayak's (perhaps the being that was destined to "absorb" the Yeerks as Ellimist said in the beginning of #26), or the being that forced Crayak out of his domain.
We don't get any indication of the being(s) in #41 either, except that they are not Ellimist and presumably not Crayak either. My own theory is that the beings who created the "fake future" are the Orff, who put themselves into the simulation in order to observe and interact with Jake. That's just my explanation, though, in lieu of an official one.

He is described as "an Ellimist" as early as #7, suggesting that there are multiple Ellimists. Applegate probably didn't know where she was going with the concept and perhaps planned for there to be multiple Ellimists at some point. She certainly didn't plan as far ahead as TEC as early on as #7.
Truth be told, we never really learn how many Ellimists there are until TEC.

I'll agree with that. there seemed to be multiple ideas she had that weren't totally thought out while she was writing. Hence the retcons. Like if you read book 8, it seems that the war has lasted centuries.

I don't think they ever mention his actual color. They always mention what his eyes convey, but the color (I don't think) is never mentioned. Some covers show blue, but most show brown.

It's actually something that Tobias himself struggles to remember at the start of book 3 I believe. I'd have to check to be sure, but I think they said he had brown eyes.

Did you check the part of book 3 when Rachel shows him an old picture of him when he was human? I thought it might say there.

No it doesn't. I did a search on the PDF for "Eye" every mention of his eyes is an emotional description, not physical.
I know it caught every "eye" possible too, 'cause it even showed me the word "Keyed".
The only physical description of his eyes are his hawk eyes.
I checked all the way through book 15, no physical mention of his human eyes.

Yeah. I accidentally put it in the wrong place because I forgot where I was. No one moved it, and it never got anywhere. I've always thought they barely knew each other, and he doesn't even make mention of her in Back to before. I don't think. Yet, she has a picture of him.
I started imagining creepy stalker Rachel having a hair doll under her pillow, and making videos of him when he slept, or just wasn't looking.

You morph into whatever image you picture in your mind. So you could morph into a cub or an adult, even if it's the same tiger. And morphs do age, but the timer is set back whenever you demorph and remorph.

eesh, I don't like that explanation, because if it works with morphs it should work with the base form too...meaning Jake and company should be able to demorph into babies or old men. And Rachel complains that she can't even fix a bad hair cut, so I get the feeling that's not how it works.

Correct. It would age for the 2 hours you were in morph but would reset when you morphed it again. Only a nothlit would age properly.
And although Tobias never acquired an Ant, there is no reason why he couldn't.

Of course morphs age when you use them, they just reset when you demorph and remorph them. They aren't stuck at 13 forever because they will return to the age they were before they last morphed.

I have a question. Was the general starting age 12-14, or 11-13? Jake was 16 at the end, so he had to be 13. Now I always imagined him being one of the oldest, if not the oldest. But I also heard it was 12-14, which means he wouldn't be the oldest.
I always pictured Jake being the oldest at 13, then possibly marco also at 13. He's supposed to be short for his age, and that would be most noticable if he was one of the oldest Anis. I always pictured Tobias being the youngest at two years below Jake. The girls could be tin the in between age so they run the 11-13 spectrum.
But that's just me. I could be wrong.

But I remember reading in the anibase that she said she pictured Ax as a 3-4 year old Andalite, and their years are 84 months, "so he was about the same age as the Animorphs," and idk if she just didn't divide by 12 right or what but that would make him 21-28 years old.

I had a sister that was 3.5 years older than me. She intro'd me to a lot of older kids, so even though I was in 5th grade, or 9th grade, I had a lot of older friends. In HS I had senior & junior friends when I was a frosh. When I was soph, I had a junior friend, etc. It's not hard for me to see them having friends in other years.

lol you're probably right...but I liked that Ax was older, because flawed as they are, the Andalites didn't strike me as the type of people to send 12 year olds into open combat.

He wasn't entirely in open combat. He was an Aristh, which is like a trainee. Their species probably mature faster. Different species and even races have different values than us. It's not our place to judge.
Either way this has turned into a discussion, not a quick answer. I think to continue, a diff thread should be started.

And though I disagree and think, yes, sometimes it IS our place to judge, my point was just that it did not seem like an Andalite characteristic to send children into war. They took their fighting pretty seriously, but honor, ritual, and tradition were the most serious parts of that. I can't see them considering children soldiers as honorable or traditional.
And yes, their species probably mature faster, but Ax was still in school and said at times that he would still be living in his parent's scoop if he wasn't in war. He was still a kid. But a much older kid, I think, than the Animorphs.

Because Taxxons make good pilots, and there is a limited number of activities that Taxxons are actually suited for. Why make the pilot console for Hork hands, when you would need Horks on the ground? It seems effecient to me.

How is Visser 3's host body Alloran kept from using his tail blade on himself? I'd assume they put him in restraints as well as his tail, but then how is Alloran kept from morphing out of the restraints? Visser 3 has acquired many deadly morphs from alien planets, I'd assume that Alloran could morph and break the restraints and kill whatever Hork-Bajir and Taxxons they sent to subdue him. Or Alloran could try morphing something like a Kafit bird that doesn't have an ear canal that can be infested, so then he'd be a nothlit and useless to the Visser. Or has he just lost his will to fight from two decades of being a host? I never quite got that.

I have a thought. In one of the books, Visser One has Eva's head hooked to the kandrona container. If V1 senses anything wrong, she'll swim right back into the ear. With that in mind, he only needs to restrain alloran's tail, and hook the machine to a table or something.

But the point was that Alloran, once freed could morph. How do you stop the freed Alloran from morphing while Visser 3 is taking his bath?

Beam rays that detect changes in body shape. Soemthing to tell V3 in the pool that he's morphing, so V3 can go back and stop him. Guards. ect.

Alloran could easily morph away his ears before Visser 3 could swim back in. Knowing the Visser, I wouldn't be surprised if he had his own private sealed room with a small pool just for himself in. That way he could sedate his host and go for a swim.

He could either morph something dangerous and risk being killed, or morph a Kafit bird or something without an ear canal that could be infested. But then again he'd either become a nothlit or be killed. Maybe he figures it isn't worth the trouble? (What's a KASS btw?)
Also on that note, I assume that the Yeerks did the same thing once they recieved the morphing technology and began to make morph-capable controllers?

The Michael that the books are dedicated to is actually K.A's husband. Jake (who is later mentioned in all of the books as well) is her son.
Michael's last name isn't actually Grant. That's just a pseudonym he uses for the Gone Series. He did the same thing in Animorphs by using Michael Mates. His real last name is Reynolds. Here's a quote where he explains it himself:
"'Michael Grant' is my pen name for GONE. Michael Reynolds is my actual name. (I've also used Michael Mates, and between us K and I have used a number of other names.) And yes, I am Katherine Applegate's husband and co-author."

And to answer that question: Ax. The Andalite government is kinda...loopie. If you know what I mean by that...Maybe circular would be a better term. And Ax was a big advocate of his people.
I think the Andalite governement, or let's say their whole race :P is a perfect example of a species who evolved ahead of time, got curious, and started seeking out new life forms and trying to make them as advanced as they were. If a species doesn't have the technology yet, maybe they weren't meant to have it yea..
Who knows, some alien species may have dropped by Earth and given us something that helped us advance, and now look where we are with war and crap. The Andalites shouldn't have given anything to the Yeerks!

Yeah, as I said to you in my earlier PM, I don't really trust fan sources without canon confirmation. Someone somewhere probably said that they were blue, and then the rumor spread from there.
And, since KA herself says "varied colors of fur," my guess would be that even she doesn't really know what color they're supposed to be. Which, I suppose, answers the question. I was simply looking for an official canon answer, and it appears that answer is "I dunno."

It's Michael and they're married, lol.
Why do they have different last names, then? Applegate and Grant.
The Michael that the books are dedicated to is actually K.A's husband. Jake (who is later mentioned in all of the books as well) is her son.
Michael's last name isn't actually Grant. That's just a pseudonym he uses for the Gone Series. He did the same thing in Animorphs by using Michael Mates. His real last name is Reynolds. Here's a quote where he explains it himself:
"'Michael Grant' is my pen name for GONE. Michael Reynolds is my actual name. (I've also used Michael Mates, and between us K and I have used a number of other names.) And yes, I am Katherine Applegate's husband and co-author."
To further confuse matters... their son Jake's last name is Mates.
At least, that's what it says on Facebook and Stupid Blog Name.

I think the series started in '96, so the in universe beginning year was probably the same. However, the series went on for five years and the in universe war only lasted 3.

I don't get it, Ax (the Andalite) morphed into a human with Rachel,Marco,Cassie and Jakes DNA. So why don't the Animorphs ever take Ax's DNA, and morph him? Maybe it would help fool Visser Three too, and he would think they were really Andalites. I haven't read the whole series I've read about 20, so if that does happen later in the series please tell me. :)

my personal explanation: part of the no sentience rule is not to morph sentient creatures unless necessary, even if you have permission. I guess help fooling visser three wasn't that necessary.
p.s. there's no definite answer to this question, so it doesn't really belong here and could belong in it's own thread. in fact, I think there's already been half a dozen different threads that discussed this before...

I'm reading 21 (Jake's part of the David trilogy). Jake morphs into a dog to find David who just escaped from the barn. They think he just wanted to try out his lion morph. Jake is getting mad but Cassie says, <I seem to remember you morphing to tiger and running around on people's roofs, Jake.>
When did he do this? I've been reading straight through for the past week and I don't remember this.

I'm reading Book 6 right now, and Jake is currently a controller.
When he tries to escape using the ant morph, I get confused.
Visser 3 says, in Book 3 I think, that it's a pity the cat's brain is too small to be infested.
The Yeerk isn't a part of Jake, and therefore shouldn't be able to morph into something as small as an ant.
I imagine the Yeerk would be smushed, or forced out or something of the sort.
I had the same thought at the end of the series when Tom morphs the Snake, surely the snake's brain is too small for infestation.
I think somewhere (though I may be wrong) there's mention of small morphs not being useful for a Yeerk with a morph capable host.
But if I'm wrong, how exactly does this whole morph capable controller morphing into something smaller than the Yeerk in it's brain possible?

In much the same way that the Animorphs can morph their morphing outfits, the Yeerk is able to incorporate itself into the morph.

I figured it wouldn't work, seeing as the Yeerk is a living thing and has a different DNA pattern to Jake, Tom and the Visser, and wouldn't be able to be incorporated into the morph.

Just wonderin'...If a morpher acquires another morpher's DNA, does the acquirer acquire the acquire-ee's morphs that they have acquired? Wow that's looks real awkward when I typed compared to how smooth it sounded in my head. So for example if Jake acquired Marco would Jake have Marco's morph like his gorilla or osprey? my guess is no, but i have been wrong before. Sorry if this has been asked/answered somewhere in the forum already. :)

It's established that you can't acquire DNA that's already been acquired. Meaning if someone acquired a dog, you can't acquire the dog through them. It should be the same if you take their DNA. You'd only get the original form's DNA, and not the acquired DNA the person got beforehand.

I've always wondered that too. Like why they didn't just kidnap Tom and other Controllers in the beginning and held them for three days then gave them the power to morph. I mean they'd have known about the invasion, been freed and willing fighters against the Yeerks, and the Animorphs would have ended up with a stronger army. Then to prevent any suspicion with the Yeerks and avoiding an all-out war the Chee could have passed as them. Anways, I'm guessing the answer to your question (which is honestly really open to many reasons) regarding that is because simply, the series wouldn't have ended up the way AppleGrant wanted or it flat out would have been a much shorter series. And as for the blue box that's just not how it works. The science behind it doesn't allow nothlits to re-acquire the morphing power. Also, I recommend finishing up the series! :D

Yeah I figured that. I was thinking though the morphs that the person had acquired before are in the morpher's DNA. So if the animal's DNA was mixed in with the human's (or andalite's) DNA that if that was the acquired DNA of someone acquiring that person-by default-recieve that animal's DNA also?

Tom's first Yeerk was going to end up becoming the controller for the state governor, who was in line of being a candidate for presidency. Then Jake killed him in #6.
Tom's second Yeerk went up in rank once he brought in Jake's parents in #49, when it was discovered that the Animorphs were human. And I believe he then became Sub-Visser after #50, when he brought the Escafil Device to Visser Three One.

Can a morpher acquire something not using his/her hands? I ask because I was reading megamorphs and Ax was trying to catch a flea that was on him to acquire it. I thought it would have been easier to just start acquiring when the flea was in contact. Would have been easier. I don't think it was ever addressed in the books.

i think so, but skin contact is probably required, and ax is covered in fur

Just read book 39, and apparently morphing and demorphing when your real body is injured will heal your wounds, I'm pretty sure in earlier books it's been stated that morphing will not heal/change your real body's condition. Anybody can shed some light on this?

I don't remember anything like that being said in an earlier book. There are other examples of morphing healing your body (e.g. #49, Loren regains her sight and loses her scars after morphing)
Also in #25 the Animorphs repeatedly morph and remorph to survive the cold temperatures, and I don't think they suffered any cumulative damage to their human bodies.

It was never said that they couldn't heal their real bodies by morphing. You might be getting confused with what Rachel said in #2 about failing to reverse a bad haircut. This topic has been discussed at length in other threads, but nobody can explain why exactly injuries are healed but changes to the body's condition (eg. hair and weight loss) remain the same after morphing.

Yes, they never said that morphing/demorphing wouldn't heal your wounds, though even after they had seen the morphs be reconstructed fully healed they did note that they still were not sure that it would heal their own body's wounds, they didn't actually test it out. One of the earliest confirmations that it will heal your original body is in MM#1 when Rachel demorphs and notes that scratches on her feet from earlier barefoot walking were now healed, however this contradicts Cassie's pointing out a scar on her hand in #7, The Stranger which was published not long before MM#1, which should just as well be healed away after demorphing (as well as the other odd artifacts of demorphing that Phoenix mentioned). I think that in order to make the series function according to a single, logical set of rules that make sense in application what KA should have done is make the morphs be created solely from DNA, and therefore healed with each morphing but the actual bodies of the morphers be only stored in Z-space then retrieved upon de-morph, then making sure throughout the storyline that the Anis never seriously injured their own bodies outside of morphs.

Yup, they can. Rabies has been cured through morph. It's not clear exactly how this works either though: are any organisms within their body simply eliminated rather than pushed into Z-space when they morph? And if that's the case, why haven't we heard of all the uncomfortable problems they would have had if their gut flora wasn't re-created along with their own bodies.
Also, it's not perfect in eliminating disease either, #29, The Sickness featured some type of disease that survived and affected the Anis throughout the morphing process.
Some of the problems like this kinda push back the plausibility of the morphing process a bit, but still leave it possible simply by acknowledging that the Andalites never mentioned further details of how it functions because it was a secret technology, it had to have been able to do a lot more than construct the bodies from DNA.

I'm currently reading Andalite Chronicles, and one thing doesn't feel right. How did Elfangor, Arbron, and Alloran manage to keep control when they morphed Taxxon for the first time? Tobias and Ax lost it when they morphed one, and they made it seem so difficult to control a Taxxon mind. Why was it so easy for Elfangor?

Well, it certainly wasn't easy, and Arbron didn't entirely keep control of the morph. He later claimed that in the frenzy he gave into the Taxxon instinct and ate the dead Taxxon. Elfangor had a time of it too, although he gained control at the last second.
I think a lot of it has to do with mental discipline. Alloran is a trained warrior. Arbron and Elfangor are warriors in training, and Elfangor at least is a lot more serious about training than Ax ever was. That leads me to believe that they have a stronger ability to quell the natural instinct of the morph than Tobias and Ax.

I don't know, I think that it is still somewhat of a plot-hole/discontinuity that it at least seemed more difficult for Tobias and Ax than the earlier trio. The others may have had a good amount of mental discipline as a result of their training, but Arbron and Elfangor can't have been much (if at all) farther along in their training than Ax: It was regarded as fairly unconventional for their Captain Prince to have sent two arisths so young even on what was expected to be a routine, simple mission. And Ax may have been one to daydream during classroom lessons, but he is almost comically devoted to the warrior ideal and took his training and discipline as a warrior at least as seriously as Elfangor in an effort to live up to him. And even with relatively good general mental discipline, the Anis are vastly beyond Andalite warriors in morphing experience and practice controlling a morphed-mind (The only Andalites who might approach the Anis in morphing experience would be estreen who make a career of morph performances).
I suppose there are some outside possibilities like that Earth-meat happens to smell much more powerfully attractive to the Taxxon senses and brain than other Taxxons and the other stuff that happened to be around on the Taxxon home-world; though those aren't the kind of 'single possible answer' that this thread is looking for, so I think that question is still kinda open as far as canon confirmation is concerned.

I don't think it is ever confirmed in the sense that someone who actually knows stated that it was the case; but I still think that it is a safe assumption that that is the simple, single answer since it is the only thing that immediately occurs to Ax as a reasonable explanation. Still, even the term 'allergy' may not actually mean a literal immune hypersensitivity disorder, Ax isn't a scientist and the word may be used colloquially by average Andalites to describe an inability to gain the ability to morph that may be some other reason than what is actually an allergic reaction.

Pretty sure it's also implied she targeted her next host to be a mother, too. Maybe she ended up getting Eva and kept her for the *~*motherly connection*~*.
Personally, I think she liked that Eva was pragmatic, since it's implied in the series that Marco got his ruthlessness from his mother, and that she enjoyed being in the mind of a logical, calculating human, but this is mostly my personal fanon.

It is never stated why exactly she chose Eva (or how for that matter) but we know from Visser that she respected human ingenuity. Also she did form an emotional attachment to her human children, so maybe she (at least subconsciously) wanted a host with a family.

Just how important is it to read the Megamorphs? I borrowed a copy from the library on megamorphs no.2 (the time of the dinosaurs). Sadly, it is split in two parts. I got part 1. When I picked it up, I was surprised to see how thick it was with only about 99 pages.

How tall are Andalites supposed to be in relation to a Hork-Bajir? I think I remember reading Hork-Bajir are around 7 feet or something.

What about book 5, where the gold banded Hork was bigger than the guards? Plus not all Human adults are exactly 6 feet tall. I don't think all Horks are exactly 7 feet tall, even if they were all genetically modified creatures. The Blue Bands are said to have bigger blades than normal, but I'm not sure if they are taller than normal.
I think most Human adults range from 5-7 feet tall, which is the main reason I said Horks are 7-9 feet tall.

"Bigger" does not necessarily mean "2 feet taller." O.o There's absolutely nothing in the books that would suggest that. Or that adult Hork-Bajir have the same kind of height range that humans have. They're different species. Comparing the two doesn't really work that well.

I think it's possible a Hork-Bajir could be over 7 feet, even if 9 does seem a little tall. I think variation of height for them wouldn't really matter that they're different species. I mean wasn't Toby smaller than "the average Hork-Bajir?" Anyways, the Andalites had varying heights as well. Like Gafinilan was described by Marco as huge in comparison to Alloran and Elfangor.

Rachel died at 16, but by the time everyone went off to save Ax (excluding Cassie) they were like 19.

There was about two years difference between the oldest and youngest, but aside from Jake and Rachel we don't know any exact ages. During the series I always pictured Tobias being the youngest, and Jake and Marco being the same age. Being short for your age is more noticeable the older you get. I kind of pictured Rachel being in the middle, so there wouldn't be much of an age gap between her and Tobias. Not that that's a huge deal.

They were all the same age. O.o It doesn't say in any book that they weren't. #53 says their exact age--16 at the end, 13 at the beginning of the war. #52 said they all should have been in high school.
Also, if there had been two years between them, it would have been really weird for 11 year olds to be hanging out with 13 year olds.

I'm pretty sure early on they said they were between 11 and 13. Or it was said somewhere. I don't think they were all the same years old.
And where I come from, it's perfectly fine for people within a couple years of each other to hang out. It wouldn't have been weird at all. Though I live in Alabama, and it might be different in California. I didn't keep up with ages, and I certainly didn't exclude people just because they weren't within 12 months of my age. If I told anyone that someone couldn't play with me because they were a year or so younger or older, my parents would have thought I was the weird one.
I mean when someone introduces themselve to you, do you ask them how old they are? And then tell them they can't hang out with you in your free time because their age doesn't match up with yours?

No it doesn't. -_- It doesn't say that how old they are until book 53. The closest it comes is saying they're in middle school.

Also, we don't know how long before the Construction site Tobias and Jake met. If it was long enough before to be the previous school year, they wouldn't have been in the same school.

It's probably pretty safe to assume that they're all 13-14 at the beginning and 16-17 at the end, so 7th-11th grade as the series goes on. Generally it's not so much that people exclude based on age so much as that they tend to group together based on being in the same grade, at least where I grew up (Nevada). If they were all 7th or 8th graders at the beginning, it makes sense that they'd all know each other and have been in classes with each other.

Ok, I went to Hirac Delest and looked up the character profiles. All their ages were stated as 13-16 (series timespan). So I guess they were all 13 when it started. Kind of coincidental, since I really don't see anything wrong with hanging out with people a little younger or older than me. Two of my closest friends growing up weren't my age. One was a year younger and the other was a couple of years older.

I don't think anyone's saying it's wrong to hang out with people older and younger than you, just that people usually tend to cluster together based on being the same age or in the same grade, at least when they're younger. Obviously, it's not a hard and fast rule. I had friends a few years younger too, mostly because they were in my brother's grade.

I really don't know. I kind of picture them with four fingers and a thumb like Human hands, and talons like a red tail's. Marco said Tobias kept the same feet when Tobias fir morphed one. Aside from that I don't think it's said. If there's artwork showing a hand, that would be as good as anything.

Actually, I know a lot of kids who stopped reading after the David trilogy, so no. Personally, the David trilogy is all about the payoff to me - #22 is one of my favorite books in the series and easily the most solid Rachel book. Totally a crossing-the-Rubicon for the team. But #21 is really just a bunch of extended set-up with a really lame b-plot thrown in, and #20 is just...I don't know. I totally don't understand where Marco's cavalcade of failure comes from in that book. I mean, it's entertaining, but it just seems so out-of-place and somewhat out-of-character. Did he hit his head that morning or something?
And I know this is a contentious statement, but David's not a very interesting character to me. He's kind of just a little jerk with some sociopathy thrown in. You could make plenty of arguments for him being angry, or refusing to fight, or being amoral and self-interested, but he moved away from could-be sympathetic character and just turned into a total twerp when he "killed" Tobias. That was the point where it was like "I don't care about your missing parents and your life getting changed overnight, that's just sociopathic". If they hadn't disposed of him in such a horrifying way, he would have just been a villain of the week and a nice break from V3. Like I said, all about the payoff.

ebooks are currently experiencing technical difficulties.
The first mention that the Animorphs know Elfangor was Tobias' dad was in #26, so it either happened in book 24 or 25. Someone said they thought Tobias told them all on the way back from the Arctic when they were taking like, freight trains and stuff, which I kind of like.

Yes, Andalites are capable of swimming, just nowhere near as well as a Shark or Dolphin. I believe he swam briefly in #22 when they all landed in the ocean as Seagulls and demorphed so that they could morph Dolphins.

So uh, dumb question (sorry I didn't see if it was already asked). But when Loren gets the power to morph and she gets shot or whatever and then has to demorph, did Tobias or anyone tell her beforehand to wear skintight clothing? Could have been vary scarring and embarrassing for both of them :/

I'm honestly not sure. As far as I recall, she was never told about the clothing problem. Did she fully demorph though? I seem to remember her starting to demorph because she was injured, but then morphed back to hawk to escape with Tobias, so perhaps she didn't fully demorph.
The one time I blank on something is the one time I'm not in my room with my Animorphs collection only metres away. Typical... ::)

For the Auxiliaries: Yeah, I just assumed it all happened off-screen. If the Animorphs were going through the trouble of briefing them on the War and telling them all the procedures of acquiring, morphing, and the dangers surrounding it (2 hours, etc), then I'm sure they would've gotten to the whole clothing situation in there.
Just remember that this was all happening in the last 5 books, so obviously they (The Animorphs/K.A.) had a lot more important, 'bigger picture' things to focus on. And with the series being a monthly title and all, not every detail could have possibly made it in there with the given time.
[spoiler=#49 Spoilers]As for the Loren thing... I think THAT is genuinely a mistake though. It's been a while since I've read the book, but I think she got the power and learned how to morph while they were running away from the Yeerks, so there wouldn't have been any time to tell her about clothing. It was most likely just overlooked by the author with all the crazy things that were going on in that book alone (I believe that was the book where the Animorphs were 'outed' by the Yeerks).[/spoiler]

they look like mushrooms. So straight down. The gravity of the shaft and the dome are perpendicular to each other, though, so the shaft is technically a long hallway and you've got to do some 2001 walking-in-a-quarter-of-a-circle thing to orient yourself to the dome's gravity.

I don't think they shut down... Maybe they just remember the mistake... forever.
If they're hit by a dracon ray, they must show them dying, because, remember, the Yeerks don't know they exist! If they have a hologram generator, they probably also have a shelter generator who can protect them. And even without that, they're probably strong enough to not be destroyed by a ray from a small dracon beam. Indestructible, I don't think so. But strong enough to resist though time...

The Chee are seemingly immune to degrading or other natural causes and are very difficult to destroy, but not impossible. It was stated in #38 that while a Dracon Beam on low setting would probably just temporarily disrupt their hologram (much like Erek being hit by a bus in #10), a high level setting would cause heavy damage and possibly destroy them.
However, we can assume this depends on the power setting and the distance/direction/angle of shot. In #45 Erek and his "father" are both shot by Dracon Beams, leaving Erek with minor damage but his father much worse off (although he did survive).
Basically: yes you can destroy a Chee... if you have an advanced energy weapon or a very powerful explosive handy.
As for the non-violence thing, it seems to be physically impossible. Their programming specifically forbids it, and if they were capable of breaking it on their own, they probably would have done so to protect their creators.

I guess the Pemalites should have at least CONSIDERED the possibility that not everyone in the universe is as friendly as they are. Probably should have set the Chee up with a special program; allowing them to be violent in self-defense situations.

I dont know about Marxist undertones but certainly liberal...which nowadays borders on socialism. Applegate is certainly disdainful of those who own firearms for somebody who wrote 60+ books about the human race being invaded and having to defend itself. I recall most of a quote in one of the later books...I believe it was the last Megamorphs book "Back to Before" and I'll paraphrase but I'm positive it was very similar to "Tom owns a handgun? Who really owns handguns? Only criminals or pathetic people who want to feel important."
That annoyed me. I was pretty sure she was liberal, but I wasn't aware that she was an ignorant hippy who is completely ignorant and out of touch with reality...but by the time I read that book I had read the first 50 books, and many of the first 20-25 books two, three, even ten times over...kinda too late to allow a clash of political ideologies to prevent me from reading anymore of her books. Anyways, I'm trying to find all of the books in pdf file because I found them all a few months ago and like an idiot I didn'd save the site to my favorites so now I'm trying to find the site again. I found them all on pdf or txt files or something, there was no download, no bit torrent, no amazon, no google books, no ebooks, nothing. Just links to the pdf files and they popped right up, in a very clear, organized, easy-to-read fashion similar to the actual books themselves. Please let me know if I may find them on this site. I can't find them although I read in a couple of posts, threads, and underneath the links themselves when I searched for them on google, that they can be found on this site.

However, there are a few different books in which they are damaged, there may even be one or two in which one of the Chee is destroyed. I know Mr. King got fried in one book and didn't die but was badly damaged, and another in which Erek has some sort of virus and is harmed in that way instead of being physically assaulted.

That annoyed me. I was pretty sure she was liberal, but I wasn't aware that she was an ignorant hippy who is completely ignorant and out of touch with reality...but by the time I read that book I had read the first 50 books, and many of the first 20-25 books two, three, even ten times over...kinda too late to allow a clash of political ideologies to prevent me from reading anymore of her books. Anyways, I'm trying to find all of the books in pdf file because I found them all a few months ago and like an idiot I didn'd save the site to my favorites so now I'm trying to find the site again. I found them all on pdf or txt files or something, there was no download, no bit torrent, no amazon, no google books, no ebooks, nothing. Just links to the pdf files and they popped right up, in a very clear, organized, easy-to-read fashion similar to the actual books themselves. Please let me know if I may find them on this site. I can't find them although I read in a couple of posts, threads, and underneath the links themselves when I searched for them on google, that they can be found on this site.
First off, the ebooks have been removed at Scholastic's request. And secondly, maybe she was just being consistent with the views on owning firearms.[spoiler] It's assumed that they lived in California, and if I'm right, they have pretty liberal views of gun ownership. This is quite a common issue when it comes to morphing theory. I assume it's something to do with Telomeres, which shorten as you age (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telomere)

@1)... um.. they morph hair all of the time... did you mean like if they were wearing a fur coat or something? And I'm pretty sure that hair does contain DNA, and either way, the plans for producing it are included in DNA. Or are you referring to hair length? Well, there isn't a canonical answer for this in-series, but we theorize that the morphing tech must record some physical features as well, such as hair length, height (which also isn't based on DNA), fat/muscle proportions, etc.

It depends what you mean by that. If you mean acquiring something from hair alone, I wouldn't have thought so (as I believe hair isn't living tissue) but on the other hand Ax said in #18 that you could acquire something just from blood. Also they acquired various animals by just stroking their fur, so you never know.

It should but isn't. Rachel points this out in #2 when she fails to reverse a bad haircut, and Marco cut his hair short in #10 and kept it that way. My guess would be that when you demorph you return to the state you were in before you morphed. Except for wounds, which are damaged living tissue (unlike hair).

I doubt it. Unless the book's expressly for the purpose of making fun of you, maybe you can sue for libel. The only thing you have to ask permission for is when you use already printed material (i.e. you quote directly from a book or poem or whatever)

The Arn first appear in The Hork-Bajir Chronicles (the only one named being Quatzhinnikon [Quatz-HIN-i-con]), but the first main-series book one appears in is Book 34, The Prophecy. Quafijinivon (Qua-fi-JIN-i-von) is the last of the Arn.

Only a couple of months. The first seven books take place before the summer, because MM1 is in the summer, and the kids are still in school in book 1. Winter isn't mentioned, so it has to be spring. The entire span of books lasts three years, and through dates, ages, and hints, it's strongly implied that the kids met Elfangor in 1997. So, Spring 1997, a few months, Megamorphs 1 in the summer. Book 5 is between that.

For some reason, I always thought the Chee were indestructible. I guess it was the whole "living for over 2000 years thing", but I don't remember the books ever saying that Erek--or any other Chee for that matter-- was hit by a Dracon Beam or shredder.
Are the Chee indestructible? Was there a point in the series where Erek said so?
If they break the "no-violence" rule, do they shut down? Or are they PHYSICALLY unable to do so (excluding the one-time-thing in the Android)

Ugh this has been bugging me. Who is the shortest Animorph? Is Marco shorter than Cassie? As far as I know, the height order (shortest to tallest) is: Cassie, Marco, Tobias, Ax, David, Jake, Rachel. Is that right? Can anyone confirm this?
And while we're at it, are these their eye colors, in the same order: Green, brown, blue, grey?, brown, brown, blue.?
We already know their hair colors are (in the same order): Black, black, (dirty) blond, brown (I think), blond, brown, and blond.

Well, it would be nice to get a definitive answer on their eye colors, but in the meantime, I have another question I'd really like answered:
Do we know for certain that the majority of the series takes place in Santa Barbara and the areas near it? Obviously, it's revealed at the end that they're in California, and Santa Barbara really seems to make sense and line up with canon, but did they ever say outright in one of the ending books that that was their city?

K.A. changed her mind after she published her first book :) At first, she wanted people to thought-speak too, but she decided against it in the end.

The humans (taxxons, hork-bajir, etc) that are being controlled aren't called controllers. They're just called 'hosts', and they usually fall into either voluntary or involuntary category.
At least, that's what I remember anyways. It has been a while since I have read anything past the new #1 reprint....

Ax has morphed a flea multiple times.
So either the chips are really small, or the andalites found some way for them to be extruded with excess mass

This was actually brought up in a thread at one point. My explanation was that it is a matter of concentration. The Animorphs are able to keep their morphing suits as they morph because it easy for them to imagine every detail of them. Shoes are more complex so [spoiler]for most of the books[/spoiler] they are unable to morph shoes. Andalites know exactly what the translator chips look like, and thus can incorporate them into their morphs. On the other hand, they had no idea what the chips in that got implanted in them looked like (or even that they had them at first) and thus could not cause the chips to change with them.

Tough one: as far as I recall the only time they leave through that one is when Cassie does it in book 29, and she only gets out because some is coming in at the same time.
That makes it seem likely at that it is only an entrance.
Though it could be that an osprey just doesn't trigger sensors/can't touch anything to open it from the inside

In what book/books does Ax state his age?
I need it for my fanfic, but I'm finding conflicting information; even wikipedia has it written as conflicting. Something about the books themselves placing him at somewhere between 21-28 in human years, yet KAA saying he was around the same age as the kids.

I don't think he ever does. He can't be that much older than the Animorphs, since he wasn't born yet when Elfangor went to Earth, and was born in the interim years. So... if he left Earth 13ish years before the start of book 1, and was on Earth for 3 years, Ax could be no older than 16 in earth years.

Thanks. :) I couldn't remember a time anywhere in the books he said how old he was, so it was bugging me how someone got that number.
The timeline does make sense, if his brother was born around the same time as Tobias, though I remembered at the end of TAC that the ellimist told him that his brother was supposed to have been born already, so I didn't know if the ellimist fudged with the timeline to make Ax already born when Elfangor was transported into battle or not. (That was the only explanation I could think up of if Ax was older than the animorphs.)

Two astronomy questions for a fic:
Is it ever stated whether or not there are other planets orbiting the same sun as the Andalite homeworld?
Do we hear how far away it is from Earth in terms of light-years or any kind of Earth distance? (Given Z-Space we probably don't have to, for the narrative's sake, just curious if this is ever stated.)

It's never said if there are other planets in their solar system. I suppose you could say there's whatever you want there, really.
According to #5, it's 82 light years from the Andalite Home World to Earth.

(We also knowseerow stopped being a prince about 50 years ago, so that's the minimum time for that event-but the max is left unknown)

I'm going to guess between human age-200.
In book 8 Ax states something like "if I live to be 200 years old I will still be known as Elfangor's brother." However, in my opinion, its impossible to tell whether he means that as a literal age or not. At that time in the series, Ax was not known for speaking non-literally, however the sentence lends itself well to a non-literal interpretation. It could go either way.
However in MM4, he states that the dome has enough energy to last 100 years, and that he could live out his lifein the dome. However, his tone is rather sarcastic and bitter in those parts of the novel, and he has begun to question his own sanity, so again its hard to say whether or not he is being literal. And I don't know if KAA wrote that or a ghost writer.
I would guess it is at least a little bit longer than a humans. We never get t a literal age on Alloran, but he was a full prince, I believe, in 1966. If we assumed he was super awesome and climbed the ranks of the military like mad, id guess he's about 20 based on the fact that Ax is an aristh at 13. At the time of him coming to earth that would put him at 50ish. And Ax never described him as an old man, he always acted like he was a prime andalite warrior specimen, so their lifespan has to be a bit longer than a human's.
edit: I reread HBC, in 1966 Alloran was NOT a prince, he was still a warrior. But he was made War Prince by the time he went to the Hork-Bajir planet.

No but I think we can safely say they agreed (silently or otherwise) not to use it again. Perhaps because it was essentially a drug that induces psychosis in Yeerks, or maybe the ridiculous fact that it was oatmeal just meant that KA decided never to mention it again.

Short answer: I don't think it's ever definitely stated, but that is the assumption most people make
Long rambling answer: Jake makes mention his family is Jewish in the distorted history of MM3, apparently on his father's side, (which some counter doesn't make him Jewish, cause it is passed down the mother's side, but I don't know wtf that's all about.)
How they are cousin's isn't really spelled out: I know Rachel and I think Jake are said to resemble their own fathers, and that "you can tell" the two are cousins. But that's a weak argument that their dad's are brothers.
The best reasoning I can make is that Naomi is not close Saddler's parents, so the family tie of all three cousins is Rachel's dad and either of Jake's parent's, but because Jake's mom is the one that went straight to Grandpa G's funeral and seemed most effected it seems Jake's mom is his descendant, and Rachel isn't related to Grandpa G(and I don't believe Saddler's family was there either) I seems most likely that it is indeed Jake's Dad and Rachel's dad are brothers.
So if Jake's dad is Jewish, and that wasn't just a factor of the warped history, that Rachel's dad should be too, and so should she, unless you take that passed down mother's side thing into account and again: I don't what that's about.
My hesitation with all that is Rachel always sid she was too tall for gymnastics, yet she resembles her dad who was really good at it. what???

Keep in mind MM1 took place over three days, between the destruction of the kandrona (book 7) and it's replacement three weeks later (at the end or shortly after book 8) both books where they were in school.
If that is a summer break, it implies they are at school year round, since most summer vacations are 2-2.5 months, or that they lied about times of the school year throughout the series
The only extended time in the books where I can't recall school being attended is around 37-39, and prephaps 41-44. but the length of time occupied between any given books is often left open
In short: they must have sometime, more than once over 3 years, but when is ambiguous

Poontang was the RAFchild of the first married RAFcouple Anna and Ken both of which are responsible for taking my brainchild 'RAFcrush' and turning it into the phenom it is today.
As things of RAF are, it was a crazy murderer evil thing that was basically a scourge. Of course it wasn't a real member or even a boy or a girl, a few members claimed to BE Poontang but none really are. I'm not really sure of what it looked like or what kind of powers it had but there were RAFchats and threads that might have focused on the topic at some time.
This was a time I consider the golden age of RAF. A lot of our popular threads and memes were being extremely popularized at this time, it was also right when skype was getting big and most RAFians made the transition into using that program to communicate outside of the forum instead of pure message based programs and web based video/voice chat.

Has anyone ever brought the whole "backwards knees" thing to K.A.A's attention? I don't remember seeing it on KASU lists. Plus I see fans using the same terms, so I sort of fear for the updated series. (Although I admit it's a bit late to be bringing it up...)
It's just... really annoying. To hear that apparently a lot of research went into the anatomy of different morphs but throughout the entire series, everything digitigrade or ungulate had "backwards knees". Especially when it's so simple to realise that those are the ankles when looking at any mammal skeleton.
I thought it was common knowledge to most adults? Surely they must occasionally look at their pet dogs or cats and see their actual knees bending as they walk or sit? I'm confused as to how it even eluded editors.

I don't know if it's common knowledge: I certainly didn't know it till probably college, and sinse must people aren't versed in anatomy they make the comparison to human: whatever's on the ground is the foot, the next big joint is the knee etc. Because actual knees are close to the body line, and fairly hard to discern, very different than people, they assume. And don't really care, so they don't consider it.
It shouldn't have gotten through research and editing, if I had to justify it:
As I recall, it must it wasn't described that the creature had back-bending knees (Hork-Bajir the exception, and they are written to have either way at different times). Mostly it was written that in the process of a morph, one's knees changed direction.
Well no one ever said morphing is conservative. There's not reason that knee couldn't become the animals ankle, the bones of the lower leg than becoming parts of the foot, and other bones rearranging or just being newly generated.
Personally I was always annoyed that their arms always became wings, and no one ever just lost the arms and grew wings from the back. Morphings not evolution: it doesn't HAVE to build on existing structures. Just seemed to do that alot

I know I had the same train of thought when I was a very young child. I saw their "foot" then saw that the next joint was "the wrong way" and concluded the same thing, that they have backwards knees. Soon after though, I saw that they had an "extra" joint at the thigh. I then quickly realized the truth on my own by comparing joints starting at the top.
I may have just assumed it's common knowledge because I've always been into animals. Whenever I look at them, even as a child, I study their anatomy just because I found it so interesting how every animal could be so different. So I always looked for things that matched and things that didn't.
Especially when you take into consideration animals like rabbits (maybe even kangaroos?) who are frequently said to have long feet, yet you see them in a digitigrade stance when hopping. I guess it's one of those things people don't think of and slips by, then leaves you facepalming later. :P

Well again, morphing is completely random. Completely new organs can simply pop into existence. It makes a pretty good amount of sense to me that the knee could simply reverse and become a joint.

i just don't understand why they would still be living with the hork bajir if the war was over? I mean, heck, Marco pretty much has a mansion and all the beautiful women he wants. Why wouldn't his mother, whom he went through so much trouble to save, just be content living with a bunch of aliens?
Plus, Rachel's mom kept trying to escape the colony, so i doubt she would have stuck around any longer than necessary; especially if being there reminded her of Rachel. I just wish that there would have been a little more narration about what happened with parents after the war

1) I believe they all survived. They could have done whatever the hell they wanted, it's just never explained.
2) Horrible ghost writer. Theirs also an explanation that a blue cube needs to be activated by an andalite. So when David had it, it had not been activated. Their is a possibility that when they used it on David, the Escafil device somehow stayed on the whole time.
3) #31, the conspiracy. He was airlifted, by the chee so that Tom's yeerk wouldn't infest or kill anyone. Seeropedia checked.

To specifically address the issue of #3, Tom was taken back home because the damage inflicted on him was too complex a break to treat properly at the nearest medical facility-which since they were out in the woods was probably emergency care at the forest station.
The Animorphs and Chee set it up so Tom would have to be taken back to the city, so that his Yeerk could be survive., and they wouldn't have to take the whole family, and probably everyone else, into hiding then.
I believe Noelle is speaking of that last few books, prior to wars end. Odds are all the parents went home after the fighting.It's implied Jake was living with his parents for a time after the war.
And the Hork-Bajir relocated to Yellowstone, post Yeerks.

Can only be speculated. No official dates are given, it can be placed around the 3-4 year mark, as the animorphs were 13 when they started fighting, 16 when the war was sitll secret, and an unspecified amount of time passes when the invasion goes public. That's without even factoring that time travel could qualify as passing time.

And I refuse to believe 13 is a calendar year since they started, since that would be a third of the way through the series.

Saw your posts both here and in the reread thread on this one. The one possible answer to this is... we have no idea. It was not The One (KA stated in a later interview that The One, when it appeared, was a completely new character who had not previously appeared in the series). Who or what it was that said that was never distinctly defined in the series, nor was the storyline involving it ever developed beyond this one book.

I don't think we ever get a real life span stated. Jara died in battle, and didn't seem to be ancient, however old he was. Seerow and Dak may have gone in fights as well, no way to know when they would stop breeding. Hork Bajir are a class 3 species aren't they? That means that they can't be bred very quickly/don't exist in large numbers. So maybe they do have a longer life span, they just don't have very many kids. I always kinda thought it seemed like each Hork Bajir couple I read about only ever had one kid.
I wonder how long Yeerks and Andalites live. Visser 3 was in Alloran for like, decades wasn't he?

Can someone tell me which book states that nothlits can't regain their morphing ability by touching the Escafil Device again? I know Jake mentions it briefly in #53 but surely it was covered before then.

You can't morph directly from one form to the other, and you can't acquire DNA while in morph. Even when stuck, you are still in morph, so trying to give you morphing power again wouldn't work because of the stated limitations of morphing.

We take it on the implication, because otherwise being trapped in morph won't be a big deal for the Andalites, so long as you had someway to get back home and touch another box, but it's never out and out stated.

As messed up as politics are, I don't think they're allowed to just execute other Vissers. She needs a good reason, and apparently he was having enough success on Earth that he actually got promoted above Visser 2 when she gopt executed.

I believe it would be. It may have said somewhere that this flagrant "you have failed me, now die" attitude is frowned upon, but his past victories have made them overlook that. If he did kill a high ranking Visser, I doubt they'd sweep that under the rug.

Because from what the Animorphs saw/experienced, the Ellimist didnt really have a body. Im pretty sure he says to them the first time they meet that he just shows them some form they can relate to and not really his body. Also he can bend time and space, Im sure the Animorphs knew that if they even tried he'd just freeze time or something

bollocks. The Drode was a willing and at least partially informed agent who probably was directly involved in many of the Crayak-Ellimist plots. Cassie was what it was that made her matter or how she was used by the Ellimist.
Figure that the Ellimist didn't have a Drode counterpart because of persona: neither of them need one guy to act as a mouth piece. Crayak wanted to rule exisitance, and a ruler doesn't get invovled in the lesser trials. He has minions and delegates and standard bears to spread his message. The Ellimist was content to watch, but actually cherished life-forms. He probably enjoyed taking the opportunities to go and converse with the things he played with.
(Also, if Crayak~Sauron, Drode~Mouth of Sauron. I'm not sure what the exact opposite of Sauron was supposed to be, but none of the good guys in that model had a minion/mouth piece to my knowledge.)

Cassie, with her STG powers, was more than willing and was at least partially informed as of MM4. And being an Animorph, she was directly involved with the cosmic game as it played out on Earth. I've been rereading, and the amount of times she says she has no idea why she does things just lends more credence to my headcanon. Cassie is the Anti-Drode for Earth, and that is my firm stance.
If we're going with the LotR comparison, then if Crayak=Sauron, then Ellimist=Gandalf. One uses vast armies under his direct control and has a creepy person to act as an intimidating mouthpiece (Drode's basically Saruman, Wormtongue, and MoS combined), while the other gathers allies and friends to fight under his gentle guidance. One creates expendable grunts by the truckcartload, while the other creates a select company of heroes with a handpicked mix of personal strengths/circumstances to form a strategically sneakier resistance movement with a more personal touch.
KAA was a big fan of LotR, it's interesting how many parallels there are if you look for them. I remember spending a while picking apart the ending to see how much it tied in (quite a lot, really).

I don't really think so... He generally wears a suit, and #33 describes him as tall, distinguished and agile (though he was slightly unused to his human morph in #6, it was implied to be brand new). Apart from that, I can't really find much else. I vaguely remember something about him being bald, but can't confirm.

Yes, the human morph of Visser III is never described well. About the baldness, from what I remember, it's never mentioned.
Probably his human morph is the result of a Frolis Maneuver.
Maybe you are thinking about the TV series, where the actor is effectively bald, and also has a name, Victor Trent, which is never mentioned in books.

Not sure what book it is, when Visser 3 morphs the kafit bird and Ax says something (or thinks it) about being being worried that visser 3 went to his home planet to aquire that morph. Why would he be worried about it when Alloran could have had the morph before being infested? It always annoyed me.

I got the impression that there was a planned subplot based around traitors in the Andalite ranks, but it kinda got resolved by #18 before it ever really came to see the light of day. The implication in that book was that Alloran didn't have a Kafit morph before he was infested, because he was a later adopter of the technology. Arisths were given the morph only after it became a regularly issued ability in the Andalite military, and Alloran wasn't one of those arisths. Therefore, the idea that Visser 3 had somehow gotten his hands on a species native to the homeworld was pretty alarming. There are a couple assumptions in there, but that was the line of thought.

I think he also had a morph of another creature from the Homeworld's moon. So there's likely some implication that V# had manage to get there afterwards.
I really don't know why an andalite would defect to the yeerks, except maybe they think being a slave is better than being dead. The series is pretty unkind to voluntary hosts.

I had a theory based around morphing. What if a yeerk infested an andalite in morph, and then morphed back to the andalite's natural body? Would that allow the yeerk to maintain control over the andalite while its body is out in z-space? Or would the yeerk's body be disassembled and discarded into z-space as unnecessary biomass? I dunno.

I was responding to the question about andalite traitors. That is kind of a complicated issue in and of itself. I was just saying the andalites would be able to screen for yeerks easily, unless there was some way to circumvent it with morphing. I'll probably make a new thread for that.

He has an internal debate in the beginning, and mentions he feels like he has to turn in Cassie for her potentially treasonous thinking because if you're black or Jewish, you have to be extra careful to stay on the government's good side as a loyal party member.

In my mind, the first half of the book was excellent. After the time skip, though, everything seemed really rushed and the end came right out of nowhere.

The Secret: Forest Commissioner Farrand visits the Dapsen Lumber camp to decide if Dapsen Lumber should be allowed to log in the forest near Cassie's barn. The Controllers who control the camp quickly beat him up, put him in a box, and prepare to put a Yeerk in his head. However, Cassie secures his release and transportation to a hospital by spraying Visser 3 and his cohorts with skunk scent. So...totally random question that sprang to mind today after an Animorphs related conversation with a friend. It's been a while since I've read the earlier books so excuse me if I get something wrong.
So we know that Oatmeal can serve as a substitute for Kandrona...but it also drives the Yeerk insane (and it's probably not all that great for the host's mental health either). We know that morphing heals all injuries. Assuming oatmeal induced insanity counts as an injury (it's gotta be some sort of brain damage, right?), would a controller with the morphing abilities be able to use a combination of oatmeal and morphing to live without Kandrona while also staying sane?
The only reason I can immediately think of for this not working is the act of morphing only affecting the host and not the Yeerk. But even that's kinda debatable depending on what you think actually happens to the Yeerk when the host morphs....damn this is a head scratcher :XD:

Actually, it's pretty well established that morphing does NOT heal brain injuries. Rachel's amnesia in MM#1, or Loren's in #49, were both caused by injuries, and neither was healed when they morphed.
