Title: Group Re-Read
Post by: Terenia on July 25, 2008, 01:15:54 PM

*EDIT 7/13/2010*

Alright guys, we have our own sub-forum! Welcome to the Group Re-Read section of the Animorphs Board of RAF! We are rotating through the books in chronological order here. Approximately every 1-2 weeks I will post the next book summary and a list of questions that I created while reading. You will then have the opportunity to discuss, answer my questions, pose your own, discuss geeky science tech involved in the book, etc. Currently we are nearing the end of our first rotation and will begin a new one shortly.

Please just remember that normal forum rules apply! Respect one another and, as always, keep it seal-appropriate!

*END EDIT*

So the Animorphs LJ community and the Animorphs Fanfic Lounge are both in the middle of a re-read of the series. It's pretty simple. You read a book a week, someone posts a few guiding discussion questions, then you discuss that particular book in depth. I've been running the one on AFFL and we're up to week 11. Since we have the e-books available and a much larger member base I was wondering if there would be any interest in doing it here. I could moderate it, post the discussion questions, etc. which means all you would have to do would be to read the book and discuss.

If you want to do it the only question I have is what order you would want to read the books. LJ is doing it in order of publication, AFFL is doing it chronologically ignoring the frame stories (so the first book would be the Ellimist Chronicles).

Let me know if you're interested!!

I think that's a great idea :) I'd love to reread the books and have discussions on them.

Oh and the order doesn't matter too much, though I'd prefer the publication order.

Sounds interesting, and I'd love to participate, but I have a hard enough time trying to find moments to read the books I'm interested now. :(

I'd love to, though I don't quite understand the second part about discussing.

I'd love to, though I don't quite understand the second part about discussing.

Basically what would happen is I would post a bunch of questions I came up with while reading the book. Thn you could either answer those or come up with your own to ask people. It's just a way to get conversation started. :)

Alright, so I'm all for going in the order of publication, if that's okay with everyone? I tend to post discussions on the weekend, so I can post the first one either tomorrow or next Saturday, whatever is best for you.

Also, in order to keep things "neat" and easy to find if you want to go back to a book and discuss some more I'm going to post a new topic for each book. The topic will be clearly labeled "Group Re-read Week One: The Invasion" or something like that. My only worry is that might clutter up the Animorphs Chat section once we get to book 50 or so, lol.

O/T: Thanks Esplin!

Maybe Richard can create a new board for this? a possibility.

Truth's Hirac-Delest forum has a publication order for people who don't know (like me). I can go ahead and start reading already...but I never have any questions no matter how many times I re-read it...well you know what they say. the 1305th time is the charm (;D)

You know what we could do? Make a dedicated forum, D's forum is still up, we could use that.

Sounds fun! ^_^.

Are we including the alternamorphs in there as well?
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Terenia on July 25, 2008, 09:13:57 PM
Sure, if you want. We can start with #1 and just go in publication order, if that's cool.

Do you want to use that other forum or try and get a board started here for it? It's really up to you guys! As soon as you decide I can post the questions to #1 so you can think about them while you read. :D

The only issue I have with using the other board is that the re-read won't get as much notice by other members. If it has a topic within RAF then people are more likely to see it and join.
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: morfowt on July 25, 2008, 09:17:51 PM
that's a good point...I honestly don't care. I just want to start this re-read. If we're doing the alternamorphs, I already have a question: Can ANY animorphs fan imagine AX saying "cooler than my tail" ?

lol, that is pretty pathetic.

Alright, well I'll go ahead and post the questions to the first re-read under a new topic. We can always move it to a new board, right? Give me a few minutes to come up with the questions and whatnot (luckily I just recently reread the book, so I'm ahead of y'all :P ).

not really. I've already re-read all the books 10 times in the past two months. Yep, I have too much spare time in my hands.

Will this forum just keep rotating through the publications a few months later once this round's over? I just found this forum and think this idea is awesome, but the rereads are almost done.

Either way, it's ridiculously fun to read people's takes on these books.

So much easier to go through them now and not have to sort through all the repetitive, sometimes lazy, threads in the main one.

Now would probably be a good time to talk about the future of the re-reads. I'll post a new topic regarding that along with the next re-read today.

Glad you like the board, guys. Hopefully it makes life easier for everyone who is participating!
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Chad32 on July 20, 2010, 10:36:11 AM
I have thought about helping you with the rereads, since it's supposed to be a weekly thing. Although I am prone to start things sometimes and lose interest in them later. I could still do some of them, though. If different people do it, then different questions can be thought.
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Terenia on July 20, 2010, 10:37:18 AM
That might be an option. Another issue we need to discuss is the format. Should we keep it the same? Recycle old questions? Etc.... I'll make a topic for it now.

Query: The end of the year is around the corner, and no sign of the last 3 books.
Are we still having issues, do we need help with questions and such, or are we trying to 'time it' so we finish the re-reads exactly on the turn of the year?
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Chad32 on December 13, 2010, 09:30:26 PM
I think this has been the longest delay ever. I think she either forgot, or just got too busy.
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Terenia on December 13, 2010, 10:01:11 PM
A combination of factors, actually. One, I did get rather busy. More directly, the e-books got pulled and I wasn't sure if there was a point in continuing, since most people who participated were using the ebooks (also, while I don't use the ebooks for reading purposes they were quite useful for quick referencing).

However, if you're still interested in the last three books I'll gladly post the questions for them!
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Chad32 on December 13, 2010, 10:10:58 PM
I didn't think about that. It's hard to do rereads if some of us relied on the ebooks.
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Aluminator (Kit) on December 14, 2010, 04:30:43 AM
It'd probably be nice just to have the rest of the books up to complete the cycle, but yeah, having the ebooks gone is a bit of a downer for restarting the rereads, I'd say. Interested parties can always hit up the existing reread threads.
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Gafrash on December 14, 2010, 09:06:46 AM
Yeesh! I didn't think of that.
But what kind of hardcore Animorphs fans don't really own their own hardcopies. And what's more, what kind of fan wouldn't remember the remarkable moments.
Post the last three up, Terenia! It's a matter of principle now, my friend!
Us regular post-ers will back you up!

But I thought we only had 2 left: we've done 52

I gave away my books to the local library because I was so upset about the ending. Also I just don't remember some books as well as others because I only read them once. Especially the last arc.
Title: Re: Group Re-Read
Post by: Aluminator (Kit) on December 14, 2010, 02:18:02 PM
*nods* Yeah, a lot of the people on here don't own all, or even any of the books, and are now cursing Scholastic for making us take down all of the ebooks, rather than just the ones they're rereleasing.

In any case, Jessi, I feel there should be enough people around here who do, in fact, own the books that the rereads would be more than doable.

Alright, well I'm glad to see that there is still interest! I'm pretty sure there were only two left to post, though, #53 and #54. I'll work on getting them up this weekend. *drops all current reading activities*

Cheers, dude, I stand corrected. Apologies.

Seriously, the e-book take-down was a major blow, yes, but it's a fact, it's done, and it's understandable. I am surprised they didn't take down our re-reads!
But we gotta respect the new readers. And to us, old timers, we know very well there are ways around it.
More specifically, because most of us have already read the series.

I gave away my books to the local library because I was so upset about the ending. Also I just don't remember some books as well as others because I only read them once. Especially the last arc.
Good for you. But comment on what you remember, then. This will actually make it more interesting, because we'll discover what bits stood out the most to a one-time reader of the final book.
I have to say, I didn't go back many times to the last book.

We're almost at the end! It's the end of the year! No better reason to finish!
Let's do it!!!

Last time we went in order of publication:
1-7, MM1, 8-12, TAC, 13-18(I think, maybe 17) MM2, 19-22, HBC, 23-wherever MM3 is, the # after-35, Visser, 36-40/41, MM4, 42-47 (48?) TEC, and then to the end

The we're done with it at the moment, but are likely to start again.

To anyone particularly keen, I'm making a personal request that we wait a while
I mean if you must you must, but I'm looking to .... invest, a bit in more this go round, but I'll need some time to prepare.
But more on that later

I say yes, definitely put them in a child board. Whatever happened to the main Animorphs forum being opt-in and there being a rerelease specific forum? I think we're well past time to be doing that. The least we could do is dump this big bucket of spoilers into a board that's one click farther away.
