I know this isn't exactly specific to the Animorphs series, but I think it's still too relevant for the general board. So, what is your first thought/reaction when you see a hawk fly around overhead?
I only say this because I saw three different hawks recently, and Animorphs crossed my mind every time.

There are red-tails in Maine. The closest I've ever been to a wild one was about 4 m, when he (or she) got mobbed by crows. Nasty crows.
But, I don't really freak out or anything. 8)

There's toooons of hawks by me, and my apartment complex is backed right up against a great meadow for them to live. Everytime I see them flying around I imagine that they're Tobias, or I imagine I can be up there flying around too.
It's especially cool when you see them dive down for the kill.

I don't think most people freak out, I just mean to ask if Animorphs or Tobias are among your first thoughts when you see one.
Yesterday I saw a large hawk circling a pond with some ducks in it. I waited for a while to see if the hawk would try to take one, but it didn't.
Closet I've been to one was when it was perched in a tree about 15m above me.

When they, I think, free some birds each year, they always release a red-tailed hawk. But I've never seen one with my own eyes before.

We had a whole mess of hawks for a while here, and every time I'd point one out to someone, I'd secretly think "tobias is stalking me again" XD

I voted that it reminds me of Tobias.

I think I already told my story about the crazy ninja-guerrilla-team-hawk from Hell I encountered at school once...
But other than that, I don't see many hawks. I do always think of Tobias though. ;)

it's sort of gotten to the point that whenever I see any bird of prey, I get that "aww hey Tobias :3" reaction.
I'd make a terrible birdwatcher.

We have hawks around here a lot, the big limestone quarry produces good thermals I guess. And we have a lot of open fields. But it's hard to tell what species it is sometimes...the red-tails are most common but there are also Cooper's, Swainson's (although only in Kane and McHenry counties, not this far south) Red Shouldered,Sharp Shinned,Broad Winged (summer only)Rough Legged (winter only)...and half the time they're moving fast or too far away for me to see if they have a red tail or not. (and of course some morphs of red tail don't actually have a red tail...). Harriers and Ospreys also come here but I don't think I've seen one of those yet. Ospreys aren't woodland birds.
I have seen from time to time a hawk perched in one of the fields I pass going to work, which is always nice. Again though I stink at distinguishing them.

There's a hawk that seems to spend a lot of time outside my window, and I believe it to be a red-tail. I actually named the bird Tobias, since it's here so often.
Interestingly, my friend had a drafthorse named Tobias.

I voted the last one. It's not that I wouldn't notice a hawk (although that happens a lot too), it's just that I wouldn't recognize it as a hawk, let alone a red-tailed hawk. So, basically, I wouldn't give it another thought...

There aren't many hawks in my area... I rarely ever see them, in any case. We mostly get seaguls and crows.

Tricky, see I've recently discovered that at least some of the hawks I've seen are vultuers or in fact big freakin' crows . . . don't ask.
Anyway whenever I see a hawk I have to really look close to be certain that it is a hawk, then its usualy a crow or a vulture, but the relevant point is that while I'm looking closer I always immediately think of Tobias, or I wouldn't care enough to take that closer look anymore. Hawks are cool and seeing one is cool but being mistaken so often tends to kill one's enthusiasm . . . not that crows and vultures aren' cool . . . I geuss.

there are hawks everywhere here. there are 3 for sure that have each staked out different sections of freeway that i take to and from school from my house, and they just sit on the lamp posts lookin out over the freeway. and i always think Tobias when i see them :P
the other day i saw an offsprey pair (it was super exciting cuz it was the first time i'd ever seen an osprey in real life that wasnt a stuffed specimen) and i thought look! cassie and marco! :P and one was being a pacifist and not hunting (cassie) and the other tried 3 times to hunt, and came up empty 3 times (marco) :P

There are tons of red-tails down our trail near my house... Whenever I go running I always run into a couple of them. <3
There're also a bunch of Osprey here, especially nearer to the bay/rivers... last time a friend of mine went fishing, I just sat there and watched them. xD Aside from them, there're a bunch of vultures, some Goshawks, Kestrels and a few other species... but I'm drawn to the red-tails, mostly because of Tobias. =P

I used to do some birdwatching I was an amateur
but i could tell different hawks apart
there were several around my area and the one near my house was a Red Tail so I used to say it was Tobias heh
good old days. there was a female with babies in the park bit it was a kestrel not a red tail.
I totally lost my bird calling skills i could do a hawk quite well. not anymore
What got me upset about the show was ...

ive got hawks nesting in my backyard, its pretty cool to see them during the summer, whos knows where they go once the season changes

i am so jealous of u ax! all i get are songbirds. altho the other day i saw a mocking bird, so i guess thats kinda cool.

i thought it was to dark to be a red tail . plus its shoulders were maroon colored
but yeah now that i think about it..red shoulders are lighter than red tails.
so going to figure this out before my head explodes
Swainson's hawk is darker than a red tail and has the maroon shoulders

I was walking with my friend Natalya (my only friend who has read most of the Animorphs) and I was telling her my new Animorph quote
<Yesss! Yesss! Bird Boy shoots, he scores! If I had arms I'd be doing a victory dance!> :woot2:
Anyway then Natalya points to a sparrow going past and says "Look! It's Tobias!" and we laughed and I said "Wouldn't it be funny if he started doing a victory dance?" and we laughed some more.
Plus this is kind of irrelevant but a little huntsman has taken up residence in our classroom and I called him Marco. It's not a wolf spider, but hey...

haha a sparrow. do you know how insulted tobias would be? :P
and shark, he def was not a red tailed in the novie, that was obvious from the start, to small and dark, but he could have been a swainson's even tho that one in ur pick isnt dark enough, cuz they have different color morphs. oh why did i already return my bird field guide book back to the library?

totally lost my raptor sighting skills XD.
don't have my field book with me either or my tree one yes a tree field guide book to identify different trees... <_< lost my skill of that too

I had a total Tobias moment yesterday, on the way to my cousin's b-day party. I saw a hawk being mobbed by smaller black birds, either crows or starlings. Wish I could have get rid of them some way lol
Red tails do have a dark morph. Look at this pic. It's called Harlan's Hawk.

ani i know red tails have a dark morph, in ornithology the teacher had 5 specimens of redtails and they each looked totally different from the other, but that bird is TOO dark

Haven't read book fifty-four in a loooooooooooooooong time. Does anyone remember what Tobias was doing all that time before he went with Jake and Marco on the Blade Ship? For some reason, I remember him saying something about writing a book on hawks.

He was living in a meadow in yellowstone national park.
I think in book # 7 he mentions that when the war is over he might become an ornithologist (a person who studies birds) or teach about birds.

I have never seen a red-tailed hawk in real life honestly.But everytime I see a bird flying I always think"Oh man that is Tobias" and"That is so cool."
Tobias has always been an amazing chracter to me.

Call me a dork, but every time I see a red-tail I mouth the word "Tobias" at it, because he can lip-read and you never know.

I only say this because I saw three different hawks recently, and Animorphs crossed my mind every time.
I haven't seen any hawks, but I recently swatted a fly, and thought "I hope that wasn't Jake!".

We don't have red tailed hawks in England. I've always been gutted about it.

You may be jazzed to know that one of the leading male characters (Trish's boyfriend) in the Divergent series is named Tobias!

I never had an interest in reading the Divergent series so I wouldn't know, was there any similarity between the two characters? That could be kind of neat, a sort of spiritual successor.
