This was created for my Flash Graphics class a little while back. It's the first time I've used Flash to make any sort of animation, so obviously I chose Animorphs as my first project to inspire me.
This little short is purposely done in black & white. The style was inspired by several other fandoms, such as Frank Miller's artwork from 'Sin City' and the simplistic figures from Pixar's 'Incredibles' credit shorts.
I know that many Animorph fans often wondered what Animorphs would be like as a cartoon, which is why I made this 3 minute animation as a sort of promo trailer in my mind, something that MIGHT be submitted, someday, to be pitched for an actual Animorphs animated show. Of course, this is purely a fan project (which I got course credit for making), so I'm just glad I got the opportunity to finally work on it. It's something that I've been itching to make for a while now.
So please sit down, enjoy, and comment below to let me know what you think!

That was pretty elite.
4 stars
-
That was cool. I would watch that show. Nice teaser, and nice images. I'd give it a four also.
I also like the title for the animated series. Animorphs Animated.
-
Would there be more?
-
I hope so. This is too good to only do one.
-
Congratulations, this is already better than the TV series.
Actually, that's not saying enough. I really like the style. It reminds me a little of Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack. And a lot of The Iron Giant and The Incredibles. Music is very good (not judged as a finished product, but the ideas are there--it just needs polishing by a skilled orchestrator).
So, does anyone have Brad Bird's or Genndy Tartakovsky's phone number? I had been saying Anno for an animated adaptation, but Tartakovsky and Bird are darn good too.
-
I'm glad you guys are liking it. :)
Would there be more?
Are you asking me if I'm making more? If so, then the answer right now is no. This is the kind of project that I would've never been able to do had I not had a class specifically for the Flash program. My schedule is entirely too busy to do this in my spare time. Also, even animating and designing something like the 3 min here all by myself was such a daunting task. I would need help from other animators. I was rushing near the end just to finish it when there were a lot more ideas that I wanted to add.
If this was an actual job, then heck yes, I'd sign up instantly, but at the moment, this is it for now.

Yeah, a custom score definitely would be cool, but I thought this fit pretty well and I tried to sync it up as well as I could.

I've updated the main post with an alternate link to Youtube. The quality is a bit poor there, but it's there incase people want it.
-
Wait that was not written to order?
:wow:
-
So what grade did you get for the class? You think you might want to do this profesionally?
-
that....was...EPIC
-
THAT WAS SO GREAT!!!!!
-

I got an A, and I was graded right there when I showed it. I played the animation up on a big projector screen on our presentation day. The entire class was silent while watching it. After it was over, there was even more silence, and then my professor just let out a "Oh.... WOW!". There were murmurings of agreement among the class and then everyone clapped. That was pretty damn cool, lol.
I'm majoring in Graphic Design, so I likely will work on animation in my future, but right now I have no planning on taking up a career solely in animation. I wouldn't refuse it either though, if I got the proper opportunity. I do enjoy making stuff like this.

4 star very impressive

wow, that was pretty good :D

Really!? that's my major/career choice too!!!
-
Wow, that was really great, Issam! Make more already, jeez! *is impatiently nerdy* x3
Yeah, you'd better get an A for this.
-
if you don't get an 'A' on this..
well, you better!! ;)
-
He did get an A, and he's not going to do anymore for now. Too much effort, and not enough resources. Or something along those lines.
-
The animation was too simple for my tastes, it's also too fast and doesn't show enough story detail IMO. Decent effort so 3 stars.
-
Great one!! 4!
-
Who voted it a three?
-
IMPRESSIVE! 5 Stars for me, I hope you do submit this. The way it began (out in space) really showed the vastness of the story and how small these 6 kids really are when compared to all else. Good job!
-
5*'s all the way. Very awesome job! It put a new spin on the Animorphs for sure and everything was very well done. If I felt like being picky though I could say that the ship in the beginning could've been drawn with a bit more detail, but after that everything was awesome.

I do agree that the designs were simple, but if you look at the Dome Ship, the Andalite Fighters, Bladeships, etc, I did put a lot of effort into them, they just flew by too fast to be noticed. Time was also a restriction, so a lot of other stuff had to be simplified so I could finish the project. There is a story to this animation too,... I just didn't spoon feed it to the audience. The lack of faces, the way the scenes unfold onto themselves,... everything is intentional in this animation. It's something I'd rather not explain so that people can think about it themselves.
Also, I did this all single hand, all by myself with no help. Usually an animation this big requires more time and gets help, so getting it done was really an accomplishment in itself. Most of the people in my class didn't have 24 scenes to draw out and animate. At most, they had 6, so I was already pushing it.

still, could you do any better? ;)
amazing, especially for a first-timer in flash.
i gave it 4 stars. i like the look.
-
Amazing man. I give you a 5 for two reasons. One, you obviously put a ton of work in it. Two, it captured the feel of the series in a way I haven't seen before (including the horrible television series). Thanks for this!
-
dude, in the words of blue, THAT WAS EPIC!!! i like the animation, the lack of colours is what makes it stand out to me
5*

If i had to describe this in 1 word, WOW! like the lack of color and details and stuff, really gives that dark feel the series had...
5 stars.

Wow!!! AMAZING!! The original Animorphs cover artist saw your video!!
And if I put 4, Reaper, it's only because I was sure you can do it a little better (difficult but heh! we're speaking about YOU! ;)). But I understand you didn't have time for that. So it's really amazing, and the music is very good for this video. And I agree about the feelings we see here, and not so much in the books (not at all in the TV show).
-
So what did David say? I'm too lazy to go look.
I gave it a 4 only for minor things. Time permitting, I'm sure it would have been better, and I would have given it a 5.
-
it's visible right there...

Awesomeness. This deserves an applaud.
-
dude, that was awesome
Like a few people said I loved how everything was really simple and just kinda a symbol of the actual characters and ideas of the story
The music fit perfectly, really fit the fast paced feel of the video, and it just set up a great mood for the dark gritty images
The representation of the controllers I thought was very cool, and the faceless animorphs were also really awesome
My favorite scene was definately elfangor holding up the cube, shows you put alot of time into that one and it really looks fantastic
A few criticisms (i still gave it a five cause like holy **** that was incredible lol but theres always room for better...)
I know you were kinda battling with time and you were only using flash so you kinda had to keep things basic, but I didnt really like at the beginning when the blade ship fires on the dome ship and theres kinda those generic explosions and then it splits in two. That was one of the only times when I was like oh im watching a flash animation. I know thats pretty much how it happened in the book, but imo its not really necessary to show unless you can come up with a better way. Maybe nix the explosions (they totally work when your zooming up to the battle btw, i think they look great there) cause they just dont seem real at all. Maybe like one stylized flash explosion and then kinda have it shatter into several peices and have them kinda zoom off into different directions instead of just drift apart. I dno, either that or just drop it.
Hmm my second bit of criticism was going to be about the color you used for the names, but watching it a few more times I think its pretty cool. Definately a good choice. I love the black and white throughout, I think it really works with everything else your trying to show and that was a cool time to kinda break that with some color, good choice.
I would never really want to watch this as a show lol but thats not really what you had in mind for something this basic im sure, it was really just cool at that length and with the basic story you were trying to tell with it. Awesome job.
Something a little more detailed, like someone was saying like a samuri jack kinda deal tho, would be really cool
too bad there wont be more dude, I really enjoyed that, i watched it through twice in a row lol and through writing this ive seen it like 4-5 times lol pity there wont be more
well deserved A

LOL, thanks Duff!
Yeah, I agree about the splitting of the Domeship, the last big explosion on it does bother me. I was going to split the shaft into several more pieces as well with the Dome still intact and have us fly right through it, but I had already spent entirely way too much time on the beginning as it is (referring to the space battle before hand, which I had also redone to get it right), so I really had to get things moving along. Your flash explosion does sound cool though, I'll probably use that tip if I make some more.
And yes, I would definitely want to do something more detailed if I were making actual episodes. Samurai Jack style would be excellent (I loved that show), but this was strictly done as a promo trailer, a way to summarize the series quickly through visual narration, nothing more. :P

OK, You HAVE to lobby this to get Animorphs made into a TV show. You just got one of the greatest recommendations you could possibly get!
LOL, I find your name ironic, considering how much work obviously was put into this.
-
I love this! The music was great and the style of the animation captured the mood perfectly. I liked the part where it showed all the Animorphs and their names. The spaceships and the cityscape look awesome too.
The round headed people did look a bit like the ones on public restroom signs to me, but I suppose making them more detailed would take a ridiculous amount of time. ;)
And wow, a comment from David Mattingly! Impressive...

wow..

lol I think KA posted on one of claire's videos. you wanna subscribe to KA?
-
HELL YEAH!!!!!
-
This is their channel, if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/user/ReynoldsApplegate
But I can't seem to subscribe to it...
-
lol why'd they make a youtube account and never even put anything on it
-
I think they just have it to rate or comment on things, but it doesn't explain why they would pay for a 'Director' account if they don't plan on doing anything with it.
If you want the channel for Michael Grant (K.A's husband and co-author of Animorphs), then it's http://www.youtube.com/user/GONEbooks
-
Wow, loved the animated video! The ending was awesome and the music really fit the video well. Awesome job!
-
lol why'd they make a youtube account and never even put anything on it
mostly for favoriting/subscribing

What I like most are two shots from this.
First, the way you showed us that the hordes of people surrounding the Animorphs were controllers. The tormented figure behind bars fading into the controlled victim's head.
Second, Aximili's dome under the sea with the white dolphin swimming by.
4/5 Would be 5/5 except some of the imagery could have been on the screen longer, seemed you were cramped a bit trying to time with the music. Absolutely outstanding and I couldn't make anything close to it.
-
Nice. 4 Stars. ;D ;D
-
4 stars, because as great as it was it seems that if you had've had more time it would have been even better.
