I've never seen the females as purple in my mind. I always thought of them as blue. I just assumed they had more slender features. A finesse in their gaits and kinder eyes. Same colors.

I never considered it myself until I saw this  :andalitef:

I don't think it was ever specifically mentioned as such in the books, either, at least not to the best of my recollection.  But I sort of consider it canon anyway, since every fan I know has since assumed female Andalites to be purple.  If enough people believe it, it becomes canon, in a way.  At least in the odd logic of my brain.

*briefly considers the alternate possibility, where all female Andalites are the same color as males*  :explode:  *mindblown*

Was the purple female color ever a part of canon; or was that just creative licensing taken by an illustrator?

it might just be me, but Estrid looks very blue

That's at least partially intentional.  Technically, the book actually says, as she morphs, that she becomes a ball of 'blue-and-tan' fur.  Not 'purple-and-tan.'  Of course, that could be a KASU.  Or it might not.  Thus I was going for some kind of midway point between purple, and blue, to reconcile the two possibilities.

Knowing all that . . . do you think I overshot, and made her too blue?

*coughs on dust*  Wow, it's been a while, hasn't it?  But my artistic muse has finally poked her head back out of her hideyhole in my brain!  :D

And here's what I have to show for it.  Estrid the smiley is finally ready for display, after about a year or so of waiting!

yeah, it's been a while. are there any smilies that need to still be added?

As a matter of fact, I think there are.  They should be there on the file-share-place thingy, I think?  *checks*  Yep, they're still there.  And I think the ones that haven't been added yet are still listed on the first post of this thread, in case you don't remember which ones they are.

Thanks in advance.  :)

*cough*  Oh man it got dusty in here.  *hack* *wheeze*

Oh holy crud have I really not done anything since before June?  Wow, when my artistic muse said she was taking a vacation, she really meant it.  :P

So, yeah, I'm probably still a little rusty right now, but I may try a 'contemplative' smiley at some point in the (hopefully near?) future just to get the old gears grinding again.  I'm picturing something a bit like JD from Scrubs: a thoughtful, daydreaming stare into an upper corner, with a hand on the chin.  It's kind of JD's signature face, so if you watch Scrubs at all you know exactly what I'm referring to.  I see no real need for it to be animated, unless anyone disagrees?
